Accumulate Health

In today's episode, we're talking about back-to-school hygiene. Countless kids miss months of school and sports seasons because of mono each year, which is brought on by Epstein-Barr virus, also known as the kissing virus. But it could just as easily be the drink sharing virus. Just one sip is enough to go from no strep to strep throat, which will be followed by a round of antibiotics and then increased susceptibility to a host of immune challenges and allergies because of the antibiotics. Let’s talk about what’s really going on when kids share cups, and how to keep your family healthier...

Why Healthy Foods Aren't Helping You Lose Weight show art Why Healthy Foods Aren't Helping You Lose Weight

Accumulate Health

In today's episode, we're talking about why supposed "healthy" foods can prevent us from losing weight. For example, Siete tortillas or chips are not health-promoting foods. This doesn’t mean they are bad, but when we remove everything but the starch component, press it, heat it, sit at our desk and eat it, we can fully expect that the area around our hips and belly button are going to expand. Not to mention these gluten-free starches are essentially devoid of all manner of vitamins, minerals and polyphenols. If wheat berries are a challenge for your body, you will be best served using...

Stop Believing These Food Myths show art Stop Believing These Food Myths

Accumulate Health

In today's episode, we're talking about how food can be our friend. I can’t think of a time a person told me they couldn’t eat Happy Teriyaki or Dairy Queen, but almost on repeat I have people telling me they can’t eat sweet potatoes, fruit, or carrots, because they have too much sugar or carbs. By some psychological magic we have been duped into believing we need to watch out for the cholesterol in eggs, the sugar in fruit, the saturated fat in beef and lectins in seeds, because they are coming for our health. As soon as we think we have it figured out, we find out from the latest...

What Happens If You Make Better Choices Every Day? show art What Happens If You Make Better Choices Every Day?

Accumulate Health

In today's episode, we're talking about daily decisions and their power to create a better life tomorrow. How often do we make the same decisions, yet expect different results? It's human nature to think we're the outlier in human biology - we can eat what we want, think how we want, exercise when we want, and expect our health to improve. Daily decisions create the tomorrow we are now living in today. Racing through today expecting our health in mind, body and spirit to magically be different, is the Standard American Way of Life, but it is false hope. We are lying to ourselves if we think we...

Why Your Bread Isn’t What You Think It Is! show art Why Your Bread Isn’t What You Think It Is!

Accumulate Health

In today's episode, we're talking about wheat and the myth of "whole grains." Most of us have probably never eaten a real whole grain in our lives. Most of what’s marketed as whole grain is actually a refined, stripped-down, chemically reconstituted version of the real thing. If you have ever made true whole grain bread from wheat berries, you recognize that what you bought at the store that said whole grain looks and feels nothing like your home milled true whole grain. And this right here is why we have an endless stream of individuals who are not satiated, have all manner of digestive...

Accumulate Health

In today's episode we're talking about sprinting vs consistency when it comes to our health goals. What am I willing to do consistently starting today to move my health forward? I could not hold a 5:23 mile pace for 8 kilometers without consistent training to build up that kind of endurance and you are not going to sustain a radically different lifestyle through sheer willpower alone. When you employ the ideology of health accumulation, you build a foundation of habits and routines, that enable you to continue your health seeding journey, even when your feelings are saying, “I could really...

In today's episode, we're talking about the disease state we call metabolic syndrome which is coming unless we adjust course. This is the way of friends, family, coworkers, you name it. But if you choose to live differently, you can bypass the metabolic mess. Metabolic syndrome is simply cells losing the capacity to create energy and refurbish themselves efficiently. I have 5 places that most of us can look at and see opportunity...

In this episode, I'm talking about how we can go from surviving to thriving. For the last 7 years I have been working with a woman to help get her energy, body composition, blood sugar, stress response under control and her life performance optimized. Time does not stop and for this woman body composition is no longer a challenge, her personal fitness capacity has improved massively, her sleep routine is 8 hours a night on repeat, diabetes is no longer her diagnosis, panic attacks for no apparent reason are a thing of the past. She has figured how to care for her children and maintain a work...

More Episodes

In today's episode, we're talking about epigenetics.

Many people believe that what they eat doesn't matter, so long as they can fit into their jeans.

However, what many people don't realize is that what goes into their mouth, changes how their genes express themselves.

The food you consume can help promote a radical state of health or increase the rate of dysfunction. A couple of food items that we have cancelled in our home are corn syrup and vegetable oils (canola, soybean, corn, sunflower, safflower oils) and this is because they are toxic to our DNA.

High fructose corn syrup decreases the expression of genes that promote ideal insulin signaling which makes it really challenging for the body to regulate blood sugar. Altered gene expression is why many people still have great difficulty keeping their sugar under control and managing their body composition, even after they change their food routine and start physically exerting themselves.

When it comes to gene expression, it is not an overnight phenomenon, it is the consistent barrage of processed foods that leads to the switching off of one gene and the switching on of another gene.
