As a Sports Dietitian, one of the many questions I had to answer from athletes, especially those competing in high school and collegiate sports is whether if gaining lean muscle would slow them down. The perception was that if they could lose weight or get significantly leaner, they would get faster. Is this true as does a lighter athlete run faster, have more energy, or perform better than someone with more muscle mass?
