"I feel guilty over my adultery and divorce. I need encouragement!"

The Grace Message with Dr. Andrew Farley

I struggle with guilt over my past adultery and divorce. When you warn people about not receiving God's grace, who are you talking to? Aren't believers forgiven and living under grace already? Help me understand, and I need encouragement. My son got taken in by a movement I'm worried about. I feel responsible and guilty! What can I do? What do you think of women participating in church? As deacons? As exhorters? What does the Bible say? And what about the two passages on women remaining silent? I'm so grateful for The Grace Message. Thank you!

The Grace Message with Dr. Andrew Farley

What If Christmas Was About Rescue, Not Religion? Christmas isn’t about religion. It’s about rescue. Hebrews tells us Jesus shared in our flesh and blood so that fear would lose its grip on us—fear of death, fear of judgment, fear that God is distant or disappointed. And that rescue goes deeper than forgiveness alone. Grace doesn’t just wipe the slate clean and send us back out on our own. Jesus understands our weakness. He meets us in the midst of temptation. Grace is God’s rescue and God’s strength, not just His pardon. Grace also redefines who you are. You’re not a servant...

How Close Is Your Jesus? Closer Than You’ve Ever Been Told.

We can feel guilty for not feeling grateful enough, like a wet blanket of religious obligation. But in Christ, we have genuine reasons for gratitude. One of the biggest? We’ve been crucified. Our old self isn’t being improved. It’s gone. Buried. Never coming back.

Still, many believers don’t realize this, so they chase formulas and rituals that only make them feel “less than.” But the truth is the opposite. You’re not distant. You’re not lacking. You’re not incomplete.

God has already done the work. He’s made you new—fused to Christ, united with Him at the core of who you are. You’re full. You’re close. You’re clean. You’re His.

You don’t have to “get rid of yourself” or drum up fake gratitude. You can rest in the reality of being alive to God right now. Watch this message and see just how close Jesus really is!

Discussion Questions:

  1. Read Romans 6:1-4. What three events were you baptized into? Is this about water baptism? If not, please explain.
  2. Read Galatians 2:20. Explain “it is no longer I who live” versus “the life I now live.”
  3. Read Galatians 6:14. React to this statement: “The world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.”
  4. Read Colossians 3:3-4, Ephesians 2:5-6, John 14:20, and 1 Corinthians 6:17. Focus on these four words: hidden, seated, in, and joins. What do these communicate about your closeness to God?
  5. Read Galatians 5:24. Notice that you did the crucifying this time. When did you crucify the flesh with its passions and desires? How?
  6. Read Romans 6:17, 1 Timothy 1:5, and 2 Corinthians 9:7. What do these passages have to say about your heart?
  7. Read John 1:16 and Colossians 2:9-10. React to this statement: You have received of His fullness, and in Him you have been made complete in Him.
