Over the last couple of years, homeowners insurance has become a real challenge in Nevada. Insurance carriers are stricter - they are canceling coverage or completely refusing to renew policies, leaving consumers in a tough spot.

There are many things causing this shift - from the increase in loss events all over the world which are driving extreme claim costs. Then of course, there’s Nevada’s proximity to California which is proving too risky for carriers.

As real estate professionals, this matter is affecting our clients’ ability to close on a home, and their homeownership journey, so we need to keep it front of mind.

What are the steps the state government is taking to deal with this? Are there any extra measures homeowners should be taking to get their property covered?

In this episode, we’re joined by Nevada’s Commissioner of Insurance, Scott Kipper and Nevada REALTOR® Grant Meyer. They share why it’s so hard to get homeowners insurance right now, and possible solutions to this problem.

Nevada is getting painted with the same insurance risk as California because of the tremendous loss from extreme wildfires. -Grant Meyer
