Last month, I led my Celtic Invasion of County Wexford. We visited the National 1798 Irish Rebellion Museum. I learned a lot.

In the summer of 1798, in the town of Enniscorthy, a spark was lit that echoed across the centuries. Inspired by the ideals of liberty and self - determination that fueled the American and French Revolutions, ordinary Irish men and women rose up against British rule—hoping to shape a freer, more equal Ireland.

The United Irishmen, a movement of Protestants and Catholics alike, dreamed of unity. But their rebellion was met with brutal force. The most haunting chapter came to a head on Vinegar Hill, where rebels made their last stand.

Though the 1798 Rebellion was crushed, the spirit behind it lived on. It became a quiet current beneath Irish history, resurfacing again in 1916 during the Easter Rising—and carrying through to modern Ireland.

Today’s episode features songs and tunes inspired by the 1798 rebellion. These are songs of hope, defiance, heartbreak, and memory. This episode is not about blame. They’re about telling the stories of those who dared to dream of freedom.

If you noticed things missing on Patreon, I made a change and I forgot to tell you beforehand. My apologies. So let me explain what happened.

The podcast hasn't recovered from the income drop at the beginning of the year. It is $500 less than it was, every month. As you can imagine, that is a bit challenging.

So I made several Tier pricing changes over the past few months. Currently, the lowest level is $4 per month. The Song Henger level is $12 per month. Celtic Legends is $30 per month.

I also changed what is on each Tier. This is where the issue occurred. I moved the Music - Only Tier to the Song Henger level.

Right now, the basic Patron of the Podcast level includes the Public Episode before regular listeners and a Vote in the Celtic Top 20. (Plus the Chat Room, one time thanks on the podcast, and occasional blogs and reviews).

The Song Henger level includes that above, plus the Music - Only episode, Irish & Celtic Music Interviews, exclusive Celtic Videos, some full - length audio concerts, and the digital compilations.

And of course, the Celtic Legends level includes a thank you in the podcast at least once a month.

I added in a new tier. We are now looking for Underwriters for the podcast. If you have a business, band, or an individual, I will announce you as such every week on the show.

A special thanks to our new and continued Patrons of the Podcast: Jan Fead, Dave D, Annette Macher, Lan Kelly, Cadence Watson

HERE IS YOUR THREE STEP PLAN TO SUPPORT THE PODCAST

  1. Go to our Patreon page.
  2. Decide how much you want to pledge every month, $4, $12, $25.
  3. Keep listening to the Irish & Celtic Music Podcast to celebrate Celtic culture through music.

You can become a generous Patron of the Podcast on Patreon at SongHenge.com.

TRAVEL WITH CELTIC INVASION VACATIONS

Every year, I take a small group of Celtic music fans on the relaxing adventure of a lifetime. We don't see everything. Instead, we stay in one area. We get to know the region through its culture, history, and legends. You can join us with an auditory and visual adventure through podcasts and videos.

In 2026, we’re traveling to the Celtic nation of Galicia in Spain.

We’ll dive deep into the history and legends of the Galician Celts, uncovering their connections to Ireland, Scotland, and beyond. We’ll walk the same lands where Celtic warriors once roamed, hear the myths passed down through generations, and experience the magic of authentic Galician Celtic music, alive with passion and history.

This isn’t just a trip—it’s a journey into the heart of a Celtic culture unlike any other. Will you join us?

This is only for pleasure, not for glory! ;P I've discovered your program two weeks ago, soon after St. Patrick's celebration which is very special for me, not only as a great fan of Irish and celtic music but also as mum of a 13 year - old beauty who was born on March 17th!! My name is Mónica and I'm from Asturias, another celtic region close to Galicia, in Spain. I'm living in Brittany now so I hear your shows from France. I was very very pleased with your podcasts when I suddenly found them on the iTunes library. I've loved the 3 - hour St. Patrick's Day Special and I've recommended your shows to my brother who lives in Packenham, Ontario. Thank you for all this excellent work and keep on broadcasting!! Greetings from Quimper!! Mónica”
