Barb’s journey from teacher to assistant principal to principal has given her unique insights into the needs of educators, and she’s now focused on helping other principals achieve a better work-life balance while cultivating their personal well-being. As host of her own podcast, “The Principal’s Handbook”, she shares her knowledge and passion for creating meaningful change in education leadership.
With guidance from mentors, including a seasoned principal, a supportive superintendent, and an external coach, Barb developed a leadership style rooted in integrity and authenticity. She values the perspectives of teachers, which helps her create a positive school culture that prioritizes both student success and educator support. Barb believes deeply in the “whole educator” approach, which encourages leaders to provide professional development opportunities that also nurture personal growth, fostering a collaborative and resilient work environment.
Through her coaching, Barb empowers educators to build self-confidence, navigate difficult decisions, and tackle imposter syndrome by reframing challenges and recognizing their achievements. She reminds us that while no decision will satisfy everyone, standing by our core values is what makes a great leader. Barb also shares strategies for resolving conflict, encouraging open communication, and valuing feedback, whether that means training that aligns with real needs or simply being receptive to different perspectives.
