Be A Community Health Hero with Janel Lowman - Cancering Show S3EP27

Meet Janel Lowman, a colleague of Dr. JYP and one of her favorite people. On this episode, they will talk about the function and importance of community health workers and outreach. Janel holds a Master of Health Administration and has more than a decade of community outreach experience with the University of South Alabama. Her current role is senior manager of community outreach at the USA Health Mitchell Cancer Institute. This means she is the tip of the spear for engaging and communicating with the local community; plus, she is vital for developing and implementing cancer screening initiatives throughout the region. 

Janel will deep dive on how she handled the challenges to patient outreach caused by the COVID pandemic, as well as share some of the lessons she learned by working on the front lines of the 2010 BP oil spill. Plus, she will fill us in on what it takes to become and be a true community health worker hero.
