Pt. 6: Relationships

1) Jesus has a deep & abiding LOVE for people.

“¹⁰And a man was there with a withered hand. And they asked him, “Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?”—so that they might accuse him. ¹¹He said to them, “Which one of you who has a sheep, if it falls into a pit on the Sabbath, will not take hold of it and lift it out? ¹²Of how much more value is a man than a sheep! So it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath.” ¹³Then he said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” And the man stretched it out, and it was restored, healthy like the other. ¹⁴But the Pharisees went out and conspired against him, how to destroy him.” (Matthew 12:10–14, ESV)

 

· He pushes me to always LIVE OUT His love.

 

“¹⁴When he went ashore he saw a great crowd, and he had compassion on them and healed their sick. ¹⁵Now when it was evening, the disciples came to him and said, “This is a desolate place, and the day is now over; send the crowds away to go into the villages and buy food for themselves.” ¹⁶But Jesus said, “They need not go away; you give them something to eat.” ¹⁷They said to him, “We have only five loaves here and two fish.” ¹⁸And he said, “Bring them here to me.”” (Matthew 14:14–18, ESV)

 

2) Jesus saw inside people & knew what they REALLY WERE.

 

“²³Now when he was in Jerusalem at the Passover Feast, many believed in his name when they saw the signs that he was doing. ²⁴But Jesus on his part did not entrust himself to them, because he knew all people ²⁵and needed no one to bear witness about man, for he himself knew what was in man.” (John 2:23–25, ESV)

 

· We are all CREATED in God’s Image.

 

“⁶“Whoever sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed, for God made man in his own image.” (Genesis 9:6, ESV)

 

· We are all BROKEN by sin.

 

“⁹With it we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse people who are made in the likeness of God.” (James 3:9, ESV)

 

·  So, TRUST, but slowly with lots of verification.

 

“²⁴Make no friendship with a man given to anger, nor go with a wrathful man, ²⁵lest you learn his ways and entangle yourself in a snare. ²⁶Be not one of those who give pledges, who put up security for debts.” (Proverbs 22:24–26, ESV)

 

3) Jesus knew WITHOUT HIM we are sheep without a shepherd.

“³⁶When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. ³⁷Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; ³⁸therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.”” (Matthew 9:36–38, ESV)

 

· Can I obey Jesus & pray for workers if I’m not doing it myself?

 

4) I must TRUST GOD, not mankind.

 

“⁸It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in man. ⁹It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in princes.” (Psalm 118:8–9, ESV)

 

“⁵Thus says the Lord: “Cursed is the man who trusts in man and makes flesh his strength, whose heart turns away from the Lord. ⁶He is like a shrub in the desert, and shall not see any good come. He shall dwell in the parched places of the wilderness, in an uninhabited salt land.” (Jeremiah 17:5–6, ESV)

 

“⁹Whoever covers an offense seeks love, but he who repeats a matter separates close friends.” (Proverbs 17:9, ESV)
