Pt. 2: Zechariah‘s Song

⁶⁷  And his father Zechariah was filled with the Holy Spirit and prophesied, saying, Luke 1:67 (ESV)

 

Zachariah praises God for the birth of his son, John the Baptist, and the Messiah to come.

 

1) God VISITING us.

 

“⁶⁸“Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, for he has visited…” (Luke 1:68a, ESV)

 

“¹⁴Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.” (Isaiah 7:14, ESV)

 

2) God REDEEMING us.

 

… and redeemed his people” (Luke 1:68b, ESV)

 

“⁴But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, ⁵to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons.” (Galatians 4:4–5, ESV)

 

3) God DELIVERING us.

 

“⁶⁹and has raised up a horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David, ⁷⁰as he spoke by the mouth of his holy prophets from of old, ⁷¹that we should be saved from our enemies and from the hand of all who hate us;” (Luke 1:69–71, ESV)

4) God showing us MERCY.

 

“⁷²to show the mercy promised to our fathers…” (Luke 1:72a, ESV)

 

“¹²But when he heard it, he said, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. ¹³Go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, and not sacrifice.’ For I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.”” (Matthew 9:12–13, ESV)

 

5) God giving me PURPOSE.

 

“⁷²… and to remember his holy covenant, ⁷³the oath that he swore to our father Abraham, to grant us ⁷⁴that we, being delivered from the hand of our enemies, might serve him without fear, ⁷⁵in holiness and righteousness before him all our days.” (Luke 1:72b–75, ESV)

 

· My purpose is – to serve God – HIS WAY.

 

o The character of my service Is…

 

Ø Holy - focused on GOD.

 

“¹I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.” (Romans 12:1, ESV)

 

Ø Righteous – doing things GOD’S WAY.

 

“¹¹Now it is evident that no one is justified before God by the law, for “The righteous shall live by faith.”” (Galatians 3:11, ESV)

 

Ø Free – living in the light of the TRUTH.

 

“²The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them has light shone.” (Isaiah 9:2, ESV)

 

Ø Loving & Pleasing God  – without FEAR.

 

“¹⁸There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love.” (1 John 4:18, ESV)

 

Ø Life Long – ALL our days

 

“⁸who will sustain you to the end, guiltless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.” (1 Corinthians 1:8, ESV)

 

6) God FORGIVING us.

 

“⁷⁶And you, child, will be called the prophet of the Most High; for you will go before the Lord to prepare his ways, ⁷⁷to give knowledge of salvation to his people in the forgiveness of their sins, ⁷⁸because of the tender mercy of our God, whereby the sunrise shall visit us from on high ⁷⁹to give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.”” (Luke 1:76–79, ESV)
