We managed to get down to Lara and catch up with father and son, David and Andrew Derham. Their transport business is well known in the area with their fleet of tippers a common sight on the highways in the Melbourne area, but it’s the beautiful restorations that have caught Bruce’s eye for years and the renovation on Davids original cabover Kenworth was just the start of a line up that’s still coming together. Dave’s story of his modest growth and smart business sense is a great example of what can be done with a lot of hard work and a little bit of luck.

With Michael Durkin kicking off the transport business on the family farm, he was known for some pretty flash gear for the era. His son Kelly now heads the trucking side with a full family affair making this business tick along nicely. We were able to get back across there a few months later and caught up with Bill for a great chat about his early days doing it tough in some fairly primitive gear. At the release of this episode, Bill will be climbing into a new T610 which will see his time out behind the wheel but what a great career. You guys will enjoy this character and the family tradition will live on for years to come as you’ll find out.
