SHOW NOTES

I started feeling the pull to go out on my own when I started to become unhappy with the types of sacrifices I was making for my employer – working 7 days a week; what I believed was too much travel, and way too much stress.

But I ended up leaving way before I was ready. I had no idea what I was going to do or how to get clients let alone how much to charge.

I ended up getting frustrated and having to get a job within a few months.

The second time I went out on my own I was forced out by injuries I sustained in a car accident. And I struggled for years trying to manage my recovery and get my business established.

I wish I had gotten the kind of information and had the sort of insight that today’s guest had and has.

Ed Gandia worked in corporate sales for more than 8 years when he didn’t like the direction his career was going either. He was facing the same thing I was – a lot of travel – and he knew that if he kept going all in on his career he would be living out of a suitcase.

So he created a plan to escape by building a business on the side.

Ed went from replacing his six figure corporate job to being a well-paid freelance copywriter. He now coaches and mentors other writers to launch, build, and grow their businesses.

No matter where you are on your entrepreneurial journey, Ed has some great tips and strategies that can help you get more clients and realize you’re capable of more than you think you are.

Listen in as he shares:

  • The plan he laid out and what he called triggers that he needed to hit before he would feel confident enough to quit
  • How long it actually took him to leave compared to the plan he made – I think it will surprise you
  • The 4 things that helped him get his business off the ground
  • When he came clean to his boss about his moonlighting
  • How he managed his time to fit his full time job, growing family, and side business into his schedule
  • His secret to manage looking for new clients with getting his existing client work done and keeping his day job
  • How he decided what to charge when he started out

And what he knows now that he wished he knew when he started.

As always listen all the way to the end where I’ll share your action step and cocktail exercise for this episode.
