For John: His Death Is Not Absence | The Bootstrapped Unicorns Podcast: Episode 12 Solocast

My mentor and friend died this week (*Note: The week of the original publish date of 12/7/23). The lessons he taught me, the bond we had... it was quite real. This episode is sad because I will miss him, and glorious because of all that he gave to me and others. Today you are the beneficiary of but a thimble full of his gifts of knowledge and understanding he gave me. If you're offended by alcohol use, I apologize in advance - I'm drinking Maker's Mark which, aside from a great beer, was a drink we bonded over. I pour one and sip during this episode because it is one fond way I can remember a man who was by all accounts a great man.

I refuse to use his last name or tag him in this, for what it's worth, because his family is kinda private, and I am all for it. I should add that his wonderful family is very much a reflection of who he was. His wife is brilliant, kind, and warm but also strong. It's the only type of person who was right for John and if my count is right, 40-ish years together is a testament to their match. Together they raised two physically, mentally, and morally strong men who are going to lead great lives of their own. John's legacy is strong and today your participation in listening to this episode and learning even a small thing from it extends the legacy of his life, so very well lived.

If you can tell stories about him that are the warm, fun, and/or educational moments then feel free to share out loud (but again, last name free until it's fully public and shared). Suffice it to say... John's passing is not his absence. As so many who have sewn into others will not be here to find, but somehow I hope they know... Their physical passing is not the end of their influence, their memory, or their presence. I only pray that I can have the same influence on others before it's my turn. John, see ya again someday, brother.
