Let's repent for all the times we resort to condescending insteading of leading by humility. Leading like Jesus. Jesus had the ultimate ability to patronize, but He taught. He explained. He reasoned. He sometimes got frustrated at people who were trying to trick Him. So if anyone could be justified in condescending and patronizing, it was Jesus. And yet, He didn't. He explained, used parables. He used contexts His listeners would understand according to their culture. He met people right where they were, and not where they should have been. His actions never profited from the detriment of...

Don't laugh at bullying jokes. Whether it's happened to us, or to those around us, we've all experienced being bullied. Unfortunately sometimes we also contribute to the active bullying side of that equation by becoming a part of the bully. Don't laugh at bullying jokes, and don't contribute to the bullying, are first steps. Sure. But we should go a step farther, and speak up on behalf of those who cannot speak for themselves (Proverbs 31:8). What does anti-bullying look like in action and habit change? How do we practically examine our behaviors and habits in each setting and change them for...

How do your actions affect others? Does the fruit of your action match your intention? Let's spend a devoted day, or week, paying close attention to how our actions impact others. Then ask God immediately how He would have us change the way we act and react, with love in mind. We want to make sure our fruit is righteous before God. What does the Bible mean when it says to "judge fairly"? The first step is to point out the planks in my own eye. "Do not withold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to act." Proverbs 3:27. Speaking is action. Anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires. The fruit produced from your speaking up should be righteous fruit. My Plank: SILENCE Verses: Proverbs 31 Matthew 28 James 1 Proverbs 3 Action Step: Pray that He will guide your words when opportunities for Him arise. Invite Jesus to walk everywhere with you throughout your day, and then...

My Plank: SILENCE
Verses:
Proverbs 31
Matthew 28
James 1
Proverbs 3
Action Step: Pray that He will guide your words when opportunities for Him arise. Invite Jesus to walk everywhere with you throughout your day, and then act like Jesus is literally right beside you. Notice ways you may be in the right place at the right time just because God places you there to be His hands and feet. So pray before you speak, and ask Him for the words and wisdom. Invite God to show you how to purposefully rethrone Him in all of your interactions, including the uncomfortable times you are challenged to speak for good, to de-escalate a situation, or to praise a deserving person. Repent for the times you have stayed silent and He would've rather you had spoken up. Ask God to break any bonds you may have formed of allegiance with things of this world that are not of Him, things that prevent you from speaking. What other verses do you think should be used for this plank?
What is My Planks?
If I want to make BIG societal changes, where do I start? Well, it may sound cliche or naive, but the first step is to look at ourselves. Jesus told us we start with ourselves by removing the planks from our own eye before addressing the specks in the eyes of others.
So that’s what I’m doing here. I'm rebuilding myself after 10 years of rare disease. Welcome to My Planks. I'll share one of my planks each week. Every episode will end with an optional repentance minute, if that week’s plank was familiar to you too, you can join in.
Repentance is key. We can't just point out our planks, we need to repent to God, and get His help removing them. Supernatural help from God the Father is ALWAYS THE BEST DECISION.
Join me as we change the world by starting with ourselves.
