On this session of, The Bird and The Bear … Our hosts, Sammy Ray and Daryl Lazer, close out their Deep South series of sessions with their reactions to Peter Santenello's 5th installment in his YouTube series on the Deep South called, “Inside Alabama’s Blackest Region” … Then, as an added bonus, our hosts take one final trip to the south and react to a special video by Peter Santenello called, “Alabama’s Biggest Secret - Operation Paperclip” … Let’s sort through it together!

 

(0:00) - The session opens with Daryl explaining Terrance Howard’s “math” obsession and it leads our hosts into a conversation about dismantling masculine stereotypes - “B.O.B was right, the earth is flat … Neil deGrasse Tyson, suck my d**k.”

(12:39) - Our hosts react to the YouTube video, “Inside Alabama’s Blackest Region” by Peter Santenello - “I feel like this was one of his worst ones …. Because, he’s not a dude with nothing to say.”

(16:02) - As Peter travels through the Black Belt of Alabama he reaches the town of Beatrice and the community’s condition makes our hosts question where the Black Belt’s economic opportunities went - “They’re getting better in that … Yeah, you might tolerate black people in your community and around you … But your blind to the fact that black communities do not have the same access to resources.” 

(21:24) - Peter reaches Selma, Alabama and our hosts react to a conversation Peter has with a women cleaning up a heavily damaged home - “And, it made me think of my dad … Because she wasn’t talking in facts, she was talking in folksy feelings.”

(31:22) - Our hosts react to a second conversation Peter has in Selma with a man who’s home was one of the few to survive a “recent” tornado - “No, the f**king government didn’t come actually come in there! Are you kidding me? Did you not learn anything from any of the natural disasters over the last 20 f**king years since Katrina?”

(41:45) - Our hosts tangent into a conversation about what might happen to the homes that FEMA purchases after natural disasters - “And they’re not gonna sell it … They’re never gonna sell it … They’re just gonna keep it … They’re gonna turn us into a country of f**king renters.”

(51:30) - Our hosts react to Peter’s final thoughts as he wraps up the video and makes a comparison between Alabama’s Black Belt and the communities of Appalachia - “In the south, you’re talking about trade schools, rebuilding the community … Appalachia, you’re talking about trade schools, rebuilding the thought process around energy.”

(1:02:48) - Our hosts react to the YouTube video, “Alabama’s Biggest Secret - Operation Paperclip” by Peter Santenello - “What are you saying sir? Are you just a rocket nerd? Or are you a Nazi nerd?”

(1:08:54) - Our hosts react to Peter as he's taken around an old rocket test site by a man named Theo, who’s a descendent of an Operation Paperclip engineer - “No, your talking about the strategic implementation of scientific principles towards the goal of destruction”

(1:18:51) - Peter meets Theo’s mother and our hosts notice some important information she omitted from her story of immigrating to America - “They were Hitler youth! They needed to get that sh*t out of their heads as quickly as possible … They were about to send them to the black south!”

(1:28:26) - Our hosts challenge some of Theo’s takes on history before reacting to the last moments of Peter’s video where Theo shows Peter a car trunk full of documents that belonged to his grandfather - “And to remember that those were possible American targets is absolutely the clue into, that your grandpa was a f**king Nazi!”
