More Episodes

This week Ang is joined by Steven Baron, published author, public speaker and a child psychologist who now works in a private practice after 30 years working in primary and secondary schools. Steven has a unique perspective and approach to child psychology, an approach that has been forged through years of seeing too many psychologists focusing on the negatives. In this interview with Ang, Steven discusses his methods, his experiences and his successes and how focusing on the good can change your child's life.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • After years of working in Schools with children, Steven became tired of the negative approach around child psychology and how the emphasis seemed to always be on finding out what “was wrong with the child.” He explains to Ang how he had a lightbulb moment that shifted his career after being commissioned to write a book.
  • Steven breaks down his new approach to child psychology, focusing on ‘what’s going well’, and shares with Ang the positive effects this has on the children he works with
  • A trait that is common in many parents that have just experienced divorce is to try and compartmentalise their emotions and not show them in front of their children. Steven discusses how this is a big mistake and offers ideas of healthier ways to approach dealing with your emotions.
  • Ang and Steven discuss the importance of the teacher, parent, child triangle and how, ultimately, the child's relationship with their teachers as a role model is infinitely more important than the one of educator/student.

BEST MOMENTS

“Focusing on what is going right instead of what's going wrong can fundamentally change a child's mindset.”

“It’s important to educate children about emotions and let them know that it’s ok to experience them.”

“A child won’t remember what you taught them, they’ll remember how you made them feel.”

ABOUT THE PODCAST

Do I Really Hate Men?

Interesting question and one I have asked myself many times. This is not an ‘I hate men’ podcast neither is it just an account of my divorce and the many awful events leading up to and during it. This podcast is a safe space to delve into what happens when relationships end, it provides guidance on how to carry on being a functioning adult and/or Single Mum when you feel broken inside.

This podcast provides hope sprinkled with humour, at times its emotional at times inspiring and at times sad. I have a message to share with women around the world, come join me and your global sisters for a weekly dose of Superhero Mum inspiration and stories.

My mission -to help women and mothers globally to recover from relationship pain,  lead meaningful happy lives and inspire their children to succeed.

NOTE – I need you to know that I don’t hate men! It’s important that you know there are many great men out there. Many fantastic fathers and single fathers trying hard to do a great job.
