Church description (July 2025)
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is a Christian denomination founded in 1830 by Joseph Smith. It distinguishes itself through its belief in additional scripture beyond the Bible, primarily the Book of Mormon, which members consider another testament of Jesus Christ. The church teaches continuing revelation through modern prophets and apostles. Other distinctive doctrines include temple ordinances for the living and deceased, eternal families, and a unique understanding of the Godhead as three separate beings united in purpose. The church emphasizes personal revelation, missionary work, and genealogical research, with members following a health code called the Word of Wisdom and practicing tithing.
