How to be a patient in Perrysburg (Medical Series Part 2 of 4)
Disclaimer: The information in this episode is for general information only. It is not medical advice. Consult a healthcare professional for any health concerns you may have. The FULL show notes can be found at This is Part 2 in my 4-part medical series. Here’s some basic information about the series: Part 1 was about Prime IV Hydration and Wellness. If you missed my conversation with the owner, Shannon Cazel and her Lead Nurse Chelsea Honsberger, listen to episode 78. Today is part 2. I titled it, “How to be a patient in Perrysburg” because we’re talking about healthcare for humans. Part 3 will be about pet care in September. Part 4 will be about pharmacies in October. (October is American Pharmacists Month.) The purpose of this series is to provide resources for current and future Perrysburg, OH residents. In this episode, I talk about my family’s move from Toledo to Perrysburg in 2007 and how we dealt with finding new providers. Long story short, it took a long time. Along the way, some of our trusted providers moved away or retired. Whether you’re moving here or already live here, you’ll learn something helpful in this episode. Do you have a binder or folder for your medical records? You should! I take notes in a spiral-bound notebook each time I have a medical appointment, and I keep running records in a file folder. What’s in the folder? List of health conditions Pharmacy info: name, address, and phone number List of medications Allergies: to drugs, foods, insects, topical agents, etc. Vaccination history List of Healthcare Providers (last 5 years) Surgery history Other procedures (mammogram, etc) Hobbies and interests Links from this episode featuring Shannon Cazel and Chelsea Honsberger Prime IV’s website Halim Clinic Satellite at PHCA How to be a patient: The Essential Guide to Navigating the World of Modern Medicine by Sana Goldberg, RN. I spy a walleye!
04/04/2025
I spy a walleye!
We’re talking about walleye today, and this episode has a BINGO theme. Background: Some people like to live in or visit Perrysburg because they like to fish the Spring Walleye Run. If you’re not from around here, the term “walleye run” refers to the annual migration of walleye, which is a tasty game fish. Walleye migrate up the Maumee River to spawn (or lay eggs) every Spring. Walleye are well-known throughout NW Ohio, especially in Toledo. (Their minor league hockey team is called The Walleye, and one of their mascots is a yellow walleye named “Spike.”) Every March and April, walleye fishing is very popular in Perrysburg. I don’t fish at this time, but I’m definitely a spectator. I like to see people out there doing their thing and having a good time every Spring. Whether you’re a fishermen or a spectator, today’s episode is meant to describe my Walleye BINGO card and raise awareness about things you’ll see every Spring in and around Perrysburg during the Spring Walleye Run. That’s why the title of the episode is, “I spy a walleye.” My BINGO card has 25 spots. The middle spot is a FREE space. If you subscribe to The Perrysburg Podcast Newsletter, I put my homemade BINGO card in the newsletter on April 4, 2025. Big thanks to my sister (Kelly) for the BINGO card idea! Spot a stringer with at least 2 walleye on it. Spot an ODNR Vehicle (boat or car) or ODNR Wildlife Officer. Stand on the Perrysburg Maumee Bridge, look down, and watch someone catch a walleye. Find a fishing line recycling tube. Visit Buttonwood Park, and watch someone catch a walleye. Visit Maumee Tackle, buy gear if you need it, and get your picture with their sign if you want to. Visit the Perrysburg Riverwalk, and watch someone catch a walleye. “Like” Maumee Tackle’s Facebook Page. Find a roadside tackle business. Watch a fisherman load fish into a cooler. Visit the Davis Overlook, and watch people fish. Read Brian Miller’s Book, Fishing the Maumee River Walleye Run. FREE Watch two fishermen work together to “net” a fish. (One person has a rod. The other holds a net.) Listen to Episode 32 of The Perrysburg Podcast, featuring Brian Miller from . Watch someone catch a walleye while standing in the river wearing hip waders. Look at today’s river report on . “Like” the Maumee River Walleye Run Facebook page. Visit Orleans Park, and watch someone catch a walleye. Watch a water rescue. Watch a roadside fish cutter in action. Visit the Maple street Boat Launch, and watch the outgoing and incoming fishermen. Watch a fisherman in a boat catch a walleye (Kayak, canoes, or motorboat) Look at the water level markers under the I-475 Bridge on the Maumee Side of the river. If you see a fisherman getting a parking ticket, mark this last spot on your BINGO card. I saw a policeman ticketing a fisherman for illegal parking as I drove past the Davis Overlook this year. There aren’t enough parking spots near the river for fishermen in March and April. If you’re a City of Maumee or City of Perrysburg Official who can create more parking spaces near the river to help the fishermen (even just in March and April), please do so. I’d rather see a fisherman pay for parking up-front, like we all have to for July 4th fireworks at the Ft. Meigs Battlefield, rather than have to pay a parking ticket. Fishermen, thank you for coming to Perrysburg, and please consider coming back next year! I had 16 spots marked and no BINGOs. I could have cheated and rearranged stuff, but I didn’t. Chiropractic Care in Perrysburg: A Conversation with Dr. Nick Goin of Innate Health Chiropractic
Today’s episode is an interview with Dr. Nick Goin from Innate Health Chiropractic. Dr. Nick is my chiropractor, and I have been his patient for almost 10 years. I invited Dr. Nick to be on the podcast today because he and his staff have helped me (and my family) over the years, and I want to introduce him to you. In a small town like ours, referrals are meaningful. Dr. Nick and his associate chiropractor, Dr. Rick, are both wonderful. If you need a chiropractor, consider Dr. Nick and Dr. Rick at Innate Health Chiropractic. During our interview, Dr. Nick talks about how he became a chiropractor, why he and his wife chose Perrysburg for Innate Health Chiropractic, services they offer, their staff, their clientele, plans for 2025 and beyond, their website and social media channels, and common misconceptions about chiropractic care. Bio - Dr. Nick Goin (December 2024) Dr. Nick Goin is a passionate and dedicated chiropractor with over a decade of experience serving the Perrysburg community. His journey into chiropractic care began during his undergraduate studies in Business Management at The University of Michigan – Dearborn. Battling chronic allergies, eczema, and back pain, Dr. Nick found little relief through traditional medicine. It was only through neurologically-focused chiropractic care that he experienced a transformative healing journey, sparking his commitment to this field. Today, Dr. Nick is an International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA) Certified Pediatric Chiropractor, uniquely skilled in providing gentle, effective care for children, expectant mothers, and individuals of all ages. His mission is to empower families to achieve optimal health and wellness through personalized, holistic care. With a deep commitment to his patients and community, Dr. Nick continues to inspire healthier, happier lives one adjustment at a time. How I met Dr. Nick After lifting something heavy ~10 years ago, I hurt my back. I had numbness and tingling in my right arm (and my right hand) for at least two weeks. I didn’t do anything about it at first because I thought it would go away on its own. When it didn’t (go away on its own)…I got scared. After talking to my friend Patty about the issue, she recommended Dr. Nick at Innate Health Chiropractic. When I was finally ready to ask for help, Dr. Nick and his wife were there for me. After a few adjustments, the numbness and tingling resolved, but I have remained a patient for general health and wellness reasons. Crossing the Perrysburg-Maumee Bridge. Insights from Patrick Burtch, City Administrator - Maumee
We’re talking about crossing the Perrysburg-Maumee Bridge today. Patrick Burtch, City of Maumee Administrator is my guest. Many Perrysburg residents feel frustrated with the new traffic pattern where the bridge meets historic, uptown Maumee. This episode provides some history for prospective and new Perrysburg, OH residents who are unaware of the recent changes. Current Perrysburg residents will also enjoy our conversation. In this episode, my goal was to learn: Why did historic, uptown Maumee change their traffic pattern? Did they accomplish their goal? Best practices for driving through historic, Uptown Maumee and accessing businesses during busy times. By talking to Patrick, I got a lot of answers. I still don’t like sitting in traffic. But now, I understand Maumee's reasons for the change and a few things I can do to avoid long waits. Special thanks to Patrick Burtch for the interview and Nancy Gagnet for the Maumee image in the episode artwork. Thank you Rhonda Pees (ODOT) for the ODOT links. Grief Counseling in Perrysburg - Interview with Tim Polakowski from Monarch Grief Center
Monarch Grief Center is located at 314 Louisiana Ave in Perrysburg, OH. Their website is . I have passed the Monarch Grief Center on foot many times during the Perrysburg Farmers Market on Thursdays in historic, downtown Perrysburg (May through October). The Monarch Butterfly on the sign in front of their office is easy to spot. This episode gave me an opportunity to tour the Center, talk to the Executive Director (Tim Polakowski), and learn what Monarch Grief Center is, services they offer, and why they chose to set up shop in Perrysburg. The timing of this episode is important. As I record this, Thanksgiving is just a few days away, and Christmas is next month. The holidays can be emotionally difficult for people who are grieving (especially for those who are facing an upcoming loss or have recently lost someone). If you know someone who might need grief counseling, please share this episode with them. ⭐️ Special thanks to for introducing me to Tim Polakowski at the Norma Stark Memory Garden and Labyrinth in June 2024. ⭐️ Thank you for listening to episode 70 of the Perrysburg Podcast.
