Girl Scouts of Western Ohio with insights from Erika Jackson
Girl Scouts has been part of many childhoods, including mine! But, what's Girl Scouts like in 2026? In this episode of The Perrysburg Podcast, I talk with Erika Jackson (a Recruitment Specialist with Girl Scouts of Western Ohio) about what Girl Scouts is like in 2026 and how families in Perrysburg can get involved. We talk about who Girl Scouts is for (kindergarten through 12th grade), how troops are structured, what meetings look like, and how the girl-led model helps girls build confidence, leadership skills, and strong community connections. We also talk about volunteering, becoming a troop leader, camping opportunities, and how Girl Scouts continues to stay visible and active here in Perrysburg. And yes! It’s cookie season. A surprise guest from a local troop stops by to read this year’s cookie lineup, share pricing, and talk about how she’ll be selling cookies this season. Whether you’re a parent, caregiver, volunteer, or longtime cookie fan, this episode offers a helpful look at Girl Scouts in our community today. Internet Providers
We’re talking about internet providers in Perrysburg today. If you’ve recently asked your friends and neighbors, “Who do you use for internet?” or “What else is out there?” this episode is for you. This episode is not sponsored. This episode has 3 parts: Internet providers mentioned by members of the What else is out there, according to my online research. What to consider when comparing and choosing an internet provider in Perrysburg. Compare providers using a spreadsheet. I like pen/paper. My husband prefers Excel. Make your shopping list before you talk to someone in sales. If you don’t know what you need, it’s hard for anyone to help you choose. Providers mentioned in this episode include a mix of fiber, cable, wireless, and satellite providers. Availability varies by address. In alphabetical order, they are: Amplex AT&T Brightspeed Buckeye Broadband CenturyLink DISH Earthlink Frontier HughesNet Omni Fiber Spectrum Starlink T-Mobile 5G Home Internet Verizon 5G Home Internet Viasat Windstream (Kinetic) XNET WiFi Consider the following when looking for an internet provider: Do you need internet for business or residential use? What will you use it for? Which devices will access the internet, and how many at the same time? Which providers are available where you live? What’s your budget for internet? Are there any promotions? Can you bundle services to save money? What internet speed do you need for uploads and downloads? Do you need fiber? What’s best for gaming, streaming, remote work, or rural coverage? What equipment (hardware) is provided? (Do you know how to use it?) Are you comfortable with the customer service offered (human-staffed, chat bots, 24/7)? Let me know what I missed - , Subject line: Episode 129 Share this episode with your friends and neighbors who need an internet provider. Ways to Give Back in and Around Perrysburg
When people talk about giving back, they often use the word volunteering. I used that word in episodes 84 and 88 when I talked about volunteer opportunities in Perrysburg. Not everything that helps our community fits neatly under the “volunteering.” Rather than have a third episode with volunteering in the title, I titled this episode, “Ways to Give Back in and Around Perrysburg.” People give back in lots of ways here in Perrysburg: by volunteering their time, by donating resources, and by serving in leadership roles. Meet the Candidates for Perrysburg City Council (November 4, 2025 Election)
Today’s episode includes short interviews with all four of Perrysburg’s City Council Candidates: ✅ Erin O’Rear ✅ Justin Edgell ✅ Brad Geiner ✅ Kevin Fuller The FULL show notes for this episode are on Questions for candidates What brought you to Perrysburg? Why do you like living here? Why are you running for City Council? What’s in it for you? What do you hope people will say about you 12 months after they have been elected? Kevin only (since he is currently on Council) - advice for City Council Candidates Format Each candidate had 15 minutes to answer my questions. After editing, some interviews were longer than others. Gratitude THANK YOU to all four candidates for participating. Special thanks to Erin O’Rear for reaching out via the guest application form for the podcast about putting this episode together. Without that little nudge, I would not have thought to organize this episode. Politics are outside my comfort zone, and I typically avoid talking about them publicly. Thank you to Justin Edgell for reaching out about being a guest, and thank you to Brad Geiner and Kevin Fuller for saying, “Yes” to an interview. I would not have done this episode if all 4 candidates were not on-board. I care about making this episode fair for all the candidates. Thank you all again for participating. 9 PM Routine with insights from Lt. Brenton Duran
Lt. Brenton Duran from the City of Perrysburg Police Division talks about the 9 PM Routine in this episode. Make the 9 PM Routine a daily habit. Every night at 9 PM, take your valuables out of your car, lock your car, lock your home, close your garage door (if you have one), lock your windows, arm your security system, and leave an outside light on. Crime prevention doesn’t have to be complicated. You just need a routine. Why talk about the 9 PM Routine in July? According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, July is National Vehicle Theft Prevention Month. This episode was published on July 25, 2025. Perfect timing! We also talk about the city’s non-emergency number, toilet paper pranksters, and more in this episode. Perrysburg resident and author talks about his books, the research needed to write them, his co-authors, advice for first-time authors, and more. Thank you for listening to the series! Gary’s books can be found at . The titles are below: Perrysburg Then and Now Bridges at the Foot of the Rapids The Preservation of Fort Meigs and Its Burial Grounds The Maumee & Western Reserve Road: Its History and a Survey of Its Milestones The Founding and Survey of Perrysburg, OH Perrysburg’s Hydraulic Canal Toledo’s Forest Cemetery Gary is discerning whether he will move forward with his 8th and 9th books or not. The proposed titles are Orleans of the North and Toledo's Forest Cemetery: Volume 2. Gary mentioned a book about Woodlawn Cemetery during our conversation. The title is Toledo’s Woodlawn Cemetery (Images of America) by Rebecca Deck Visser and Renee Ciminillo Jayne. It’s available in Hardcover, Paperback, and Kindle book. 6 Pearls of wisdom I found during our conversation. I elaborate on each point in the last 5 minutes of the episode. You don’t have to be an author by trade to write a book. Gary filled a (local history) gap with his books. Gary self-published his books. You don’t have to write your book alone. Price your book to sell, and sell your books where there is traffic (local events and the internet). Be persistent. Links from this episode Website for Gary L. Franks Email Gary L.
