The Real Investment Show Podcast

Markets continue to hold up well, but momentum is beginning to slow as overbought conditions persist. While earnings expectations and money flows remain supportive, the near-term upside appears limited without a period of consolidation or a pullback. In today’s pre-market update, we discuss why patience is critical here. With key economic data ahead and uncertainty around potential Fed leadership changes, markets may need time to reset before the next leg higher. Chasing this rally at current levels could expose investors to unnecessary short-term volatility. Technically, the setup is...

It’s Q&A Wednesday, and we’re tackling the questions that matter most right now—markets at all-time highs despite geopolitical tension, whether this rally can hold, and where investors should be positioned if volatility returns. Lance Roberts & Danny Ratliff also dive into real-world portfolio decisions: how to think about inflation hedges like I-Bonds and TIPS, strategies around QLACs and RMDs, tax considerations in ETFs, and where to park cash in today’s environment. Along the way, we break down emerging risks and opportunities, from private credit exposure and national debt...

The Real Investment Show Podcast

Markets are set to open slightly higher, with oil prices steady and futures pointing to a modest gain. The key question: can the rally hold, or are we entering a more uneven phase? Markets remain technically overbought, which limits near-term upside and increases the likelihood of choppy, sideways movement. Recent pullbacks are not surprising and, at this stage, are more consistent with consolidation than the start of a deeper correction. Under the surface, buying pressure remains firm. Hedge funds and professional managers are increasing exposure, while retail investors are beginning to...

The Real Investment Show Podcast

Financial illiteracy is no longer just a personal challenge—it’s a growing national risk. With U.S. household debt exceeding $18 trillion and nearly 40% of Americans unable to cover a $400 emergency, the consequences are becoming impossible to ignore. Lance Roberts & Jon Penn break down how a lack of basic financial education is driving poor decision-making, rising debt levels, and long-term economic instability. From budgeting and credit to investing and risk management, millions are navigating an increasingly complex financial system without the tools they need. Key topics include:...

The Real Investment Show Podcast

Markets pulled back slightly Monday but remain extended above key support levels, with momentum and relative strength still in overbought territory. Historically, when prices stretch this far above moving averages, the “gravitational pull” of those averages tends to bring markets back toward support. That doesn’t mean an immediate decline, but it does suggest limited upside in the near term. The easy opportunity to deploy capital has likely passed for now. A better entry point will come—either through consolidation or a pullback driven by news or shifting sentiment. While the recent...

The Real Investment Show Podcast

Markets have staged a powerful rally off the recent lows, reclaiming the 200-DMA and pushing to new highs. Historically, when markets recover that level within four weeks, forward returns tend to improve—and this time, the rebound happened in just three weeks. Momentum is strong, money flows have flipped positive, and moving averages are turning higher. So why not chase it? Because the market is now stretched. Relative strength is overbought, and prices are significantly extended above key moving averages. When markets get this far ahead of their trend, short-term pullbacks are common—even...

The S&P set an all-time high following Wednesday's softer inflation report. Ironically, Apple, Microsoft, and Nvidia were the primary market drivers for the day. This continues to be a very lop-sided market; the deviation from the 50-DMA is getting pretty extreme again. Outside the S&P, the equal-weighted index is underperforming, and that gap is widening. 40% of the Russell 2000, for example, is non-profitable companies. There's a very big difference between what's happening in the S&P and the rest of the non-weighted world. Small- and Mid-cap companies are even more sensitive to economic data, and since 40% are not profitable, they're relying on debt; their survival is more dependent upon consumer strength and liquidity, which is waning. Despite yesterday's S&P performance, the Russell 2000 is still below its peak of 2022. There has been similar, disappointing performance in the S&P 600 of Small-cap companies. Also note: These companies do not do stock buybacks, so that "trick" for boosting shares does not exist for them.
