For Scott Abell, coming to Longwood in the fall of 1988 was an easy decision. Former Longwood Baseball coach Buddy Bolding made him an offer he could not refuse.  In his four-year career, the Lancer catcher compiled a .336 batting average and led the Lancers to the final four of the 1991 NCAA Division II CWS.  Shortly after graduation, he reunited with his first love, football.  After coaching high school and college teams to conference and state championships, he is in his first year as the Dunlevie Family head coach at Rice University in Houston TX.

Known at Longwood as Billy Dunn (Class of ‘91), William’s story is one of the ages.  Growing up in challenging neighborhoods, he defied the odds and earned his Associates, Bachelors, Masters and Doctorate while fueling his passion for philanthropy. As founder of the Dunn Foundation, William received the President's Lifetime Achievement Award in 2024 for his community outreach in Southern California and Metro Washington DC.

For one season, no one in Longwood Women’s Basketball history did it better than Kiki McIntyre.  She racked up 130 steals and averaged 3.82. Both ranked her top 3 in the nation.  After graduation, she started her new career as a paralegal with a major law firm in Richmond, Va.  Listen to Kiki talk about the art of stealing and her first step toward her professional goal as a defense attorney.  Enjoy special insight from former Lancer teammate and current WBB head coach of Seneca High (S.C.) As a member of Longwood College’s first softball team in 1981, Lynne Gilbert remembers the humble beginnings. After Longwood, she poured her love for teaching and coaching into a 39-year career with Chesterfield County Public Schools.  Coach Gil may be best known for her 18 years as the Head Coach of the Manchester High School Softball where she won seven district titles and a state championship in 1996.  Lynne, now retired, teaches drivers education.

Kelly Brown’s love for golf runs much deeper than her four years on the Longwood golf team. After attending an LPGA tournament at Kingsmill in Williamsburg, she appreciated the behind-the-scenes world of golf. Kelly managed professional golf tournaments and learned from entertainment experts such as Disney.  She found her calling and is now the Vice President of Impact at First Tee in Greater Richmond

On Sunday, March 10, 2024, the Longwood Lancers cruised to an 85-59 win over UNC-Asheville to earn their second Men’s Basketball Big South Conference tournament championship in three years.  Trey Hicks was rehabbing a knee injury and planned to watch the game from the sidelines.  But with Elijah Tucker out with a leg injury and Johan Nziemi disqualified early in the second half, Trey volunteered to play and sacrificed a year of eligibility.   Trey describes his Longwood journey from the joy of earning a basketball scholarship and advancing to the NCAA Tournament to the...

Ricky Yahn begins his 12th season as head coach of the men’s basketball team at Concordia University in Ann Arbor Michigan.  After spending two years at Longwood, the 28-year-old Yahn was named head of the NAIA member Cardinals in April 2013.  As a player, Yahn left his mark in Wheeling, WV. At Central Catholic High, the Hall of Fame guard was All-state and won a state championship.   At Wheeling Jesuit University, the three-year starter led the Cardinals to two NCAA Division II appearances and scored 1,467 career points.
