Release Date: 11/16/2020
MacVoices
After two days of virtual CES 2021, the MacVoices Live! panel of David Ginsburg, Mark Fuccio, Guy Serle, Andrew Orr, Jeff Gamet, Frank Peetrie, and Kelly Guimont start a discussion of what they’ve seen that was interesting and new. Find out what the trends were, what caught the group’s eye, and how the virtual event compares with the physical one. (Part 1 of 3)

Jeff Carlson wraps up his look at the hits and misses of webcams with two more examples, an unintentional example of good and not-so-good audio, and thoughts on matching your needs and expectations with what is available in your laptop, in the dedicated webcam devices, and whether using an iPhone is for you.

Jeff Carlson recently took a look at several different webcams, and joins us to do a live demo with what are considered some of the best web cams on the market vs. an iPhone and webcam software. Jeff and Chuck discuss and debate the results from the photographer vs. average user perspectives, and note how different cameras deliver different results in quality, field of view, light handling, and color grading. (Part 1 of 2)

CES is happening this week, but in the first-ever virtual format, so everyone is figuring out to do what we used to do in person. NextBase was our first stop for an informal conversation with Jeff Chuh, VP of Marketing, about what their focus has been, and an overview of their top-of-the-line dash cam, which includes the ability to be expanded to a front- and rear-view camera, Alexa compatibility, and why that is important.

Our look at “Tech Resolutions” for 2021 wraps up as the panel of David Ginsburg, Guy Serle, Jeff Gamet, Frank Petrie, Kelly Guimont, Mark Fuccio, Brittany Smith, and Andrew Orr submit and discuss more things they hope to accomplish and that you can adopt as your own. Doing more writing, creating a gratitude journal, cleaning up the email flood, using an information management utility, and learning new tools to better achieve your objectives. (Part 2 of 2)

The first MacVoices Live! of the new year focused on “Tech Resolutions” for 2021. In Part 1, a super-panel of David Ginsburg, Guy Serle, Jeff Gamet, Frank Petrie, Kelly Guimont, Mark Fuccio, Brittany Smith, and Andrew Orr provide ideas on backups, redundancy, simplifying your tech life, revising your social media use, and notifications. (Part 1)

The second part of our discussion with Jeff Carlson about his new Take Control of Managing Your Files focused on the iOS and iPadOS side of file management, the part that iCloud can play in it, and Jeff’s recommendations on how to integrate your strategy for those platforms with the desktop.

Jeff Carlson has a brand new Take Control book, Take Control of Managing Your Files, that covers file management on all of Apple’s three productivity platforms. In Part 1 of our discussion, Jeff looks at the overall thought processes that go into file management, and provides some guidance on how to implement the options that Apple provides to users, as well as what users can develop on their own. (Part 1 of 2)

Our final MacVoices panel of 2020 continued their look at Apple’s products and activities as the year closed out. Guy Serle, David Ginsburg, Brittany Smith, Craig Allebach, Marina Epelman, and Kelly Guimont contemplated the pandemic’s effects on lifestyles and tech needs, and picked their favorite Apple products (and not with a great deal of agreement). (Part 2 of 2)

In our last MacVoices Live! of 2020, the panel of Guy Serle, David Ginsburg, Brittany Smith, Craig Allebach, Marina Epelman, and Kelly Guimont discussed some of Apple’s decisions and product releases of the year, and how they faired, both in reality and in the press. The challenges faced by at least one university, Apple’s adaptation to the pandemic environment, and which products were the biggest winners. (Part 1 of 2)
