Dr. Bryan D. Springer completed his medical education at the Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine, residency in orthopedic surgery at the Mayo Clinic and his Fellowship in Adult Reconstruction of the Hip and Knee at the Harvard School of Medicine/Brigham and Women’s Hospital. He is a 2021 graduate of the Harvard Surgeon Leadership Program.
Dr. Springer is currently Chair of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Mayo Clinic in Florida. He previously served as an attending Orthopedic Surgeon at the OrthoCarolina Hip and Knee Center in Charlotte, NC for 18 years where he was the Fellowship Director and Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Atrium Musculoskeletal Institute and Section Chief of the Division of Adult Reconstruction.
Dr. Springer is a recipient of many academic, leadership, and professional awards. the President of the international Orthopaedic education network (IOEN), a member and 3rd VP of the hip society, and member of the knee society which is an invite only society based on academic accolades, and part of the executive committee for the foundation for physician advancement.
Bryan previously was the fellowship director of the OrthoCarolina hip and knee reconstruction fellowship, the chair of the American joint replacement registry, a visiting site for the Insall traveling hip and knee fellowship, not to mention, the past president of the American association of hip and knee surgeons (also referred to as AAHKS).
He is as a member of the Knee Society and the Hip Society. He is the Immediate Past Chair for the American Joint Replacement Registry (AJRR) and was the 2022 President of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS). He serves as President and is on the Board of Directors for the International Orthopedic Education Network (IOEN). He was named to the next generation of leaders in total joint replacement in 2013 and in 2008 was a John Insall Travelling Fellow. He is a past chair of the Education Council for AAHKS and was the Program Chair for the 2013 AAHKS annual meeting. He is a past president of the Musculoskeletal Infection Society (MSIS). He is on the Editorial Board for the Journal of Arthroplasty, is assistant editor for Arthroplasty Today. He is co-editor in chief for the Journal of Bone and Joint Infections. He is the co-founder and Medical Director of Operation Walk Carolinas.
He has published over 230 scientific articles in the peer review literature and authored over 25 book chapters. His academic and clinical interests focus on complex primary and revision total hip and knee arthroplasty as well as management of infected total joint arthroplasty. His clinical practice focuses on primary and revision total joint arthroplasty. He currently is involved with the Orthopaedic industry on implant design for both primary and revision total joint arthroplasty.
