If we know that things like depression and anxiety disorders can be caused by singular or multiple traumatic events due to the physiological changes in/to the brain. And we also know that the brain is capable of neurogenesis and neural plasticity (new neurons can be built and new pathways can be established). Then it’s not a long leap logically to deduce that we can “fix” the brain - and actually cure many mental illnesses.

Part of the problem is that too often we confuse acute, normal bouts of anxiety or depression, as disordered conditions - thus creating a narrative that we have a disorder that we don’t have and then self fulfilling prophecy leads us to actually develop said disorder. It’s normal to experience the entire spectrum of human emotion, even fairly regularly. Heck, on a really stressful day you could literally be like Ohio (all the feels in a single day).

Another problem is that it’s not a “one size fits all” or a magic pill type solution, humans need everything to be simple, because all the trillions of stimuli that we experience any given moment, it’s really no wonder. But the solution isn’t easy and what works for one may not work for another. But you have to 1) BELIEVE you can get better and 2) PUT IN THE WORK everyday. Even if you screw up. And 3) NOT QUIT. Just like with everything.

There’s a holistic approach that needs to be utilized in order to “attack the issue” so to speak.

That’s what The Way of the Unicorn is all about. But you have to want something more, something better. The works been done for you, but you have to take hold of the victory and carry it on through your own triumphs. Life taught me how to be a warrior, in ways death never could. But I understand both sides, I think that’s what has made me so powerful. I have not attained perfection, but I press on, getting better daily - and sharing what I can with whom I can.
