It's estimated that 60-100 million feral cats live in the U.S. These are domesticated cats that have been cruelly abandoned out in the streets. Los Angeles is trying to come up with a policy to deal with all the cats. But their solution is tied into pumping up their no-kill shelter numbers, and does nothing for the cats and other wildlife that get forced into the equation.

PETA Sr. VP Lisa Lange says the solutions being considered  (trapping, neutering, releasing the cats) are not as good as more aggressive enforcement of existing spay/neuter laws, on top of more humane sheltering and adoption policies.

LA could be a model for dealing with the feral cat problem nationwide, said Lange, but not if the plan includes abandonment.
