info_outlineVeteran animal rights activist Jeremy Beckham has been arrested with actor James Cromwell twice, with the most recent act of civil disobedience at Texas A&M where they protested the wasteful dog experiments there.
They were both charged with the highest form of misdemeanor in Texas equal to a DUI that causes bodily harm. And all for speaking out at a public meeting of the Texas A&M Board of Regents.
Beckham talks about the value of celebrity and civil disobedience to make everyone notice the cruelty in vivisectors' labs. He also believes it's important to demystify the process of getting arrested in the event you feel called to put your body on the line for the animals.
Beckham says it's no problem, especially when you realize the animals continue to pay a heavy price and stay confined and experimented on even after you've posted bail after arrest.
Beckham, a former PETA laboratory investigations specialist, is now the head of Utah Animal Rights Coalition, U-ARC. He spoke with Emil Guillermo.
