Release Date: 07/13/2018
Punch Drunk TV
Surprise. Punch Drunk TV is back with episode 127 and, obviously, this is not your average show. Since we're all stuck at home, Jack and I decided to try one thing we've never done in our seven-year history doing this show: Record remotely. It worked, albeit my (Aaron) mic was not at great as his. No winners or losers in this episode. It's more like, we're just checking in, ya know? Although we do talk about television a bit. Tiger King, The Office, Sesame Street and more are mentioned in this episode. What have you been watching to keep yourself sane? Thanks for listening and hey, maybe we'll...

Well would ya look at that, we're back ... kind of. It's episode 126 of Punch Drunk TV and, well, it's been a while. When Jack proposed this "terrible idea" of doing a one-off episode where we talk about the year's best TV shows, I couldn't help but say yes. I mean, I have a baby and no social life now, so just getting the opportunity to sit in someone else's living room was incentive enough. But, it was quite nice getting the band back together, so to speak. Yes, this is a long episode. Longer than The Irishman, in fact. We talk about all sorts of big tentpole things like Disney+, The...

Clinkers, we know it's been a while but we are finally back for one more -- and one final -- episode. Yes, it's true, after almost 7 years, we have decided it is now time to bring Punch Drunk TV to an end. This is Aaron typing, in case you didn't know. I started this show, back when it was first called Best Frienemies, and then revamped to the GeekNation show Pass the Effin Remote, for the simple reason that I wanted to hang out with Jack. I knew we had good chemistry, I was always entertained when we hung out, and a light bulb went off that we should do some type of show. Now, here we are....

We're back after a week hiatus and, while Jack and I are both exhausted, we've still found time to drink and yell about TV -- for your aural pleasure, of course. It's also the end of this year's Winter Television Critics Association press tour and I may have hung out with the "American Gods" cast ... and I may have told Emily Browning that Jack requested I throw her in a sack. And it may have made things a bit awkward. You'll just have to listen to find out! NEWS HIGHLIGHTS THIS WEEK: Hulu has ordered four new Marvel adult animated series and a standalone special. "Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K.,"...

This week, we're faced with a bunch of horror reboots for the small-screen which could be good or bad news, depending on how you look at it. We also touch on those big TV winners from this past weekend's SAG Awards -- and you'll never guess who won Best Stunt Ensemble. Jack's wife, JoEllen, wants to know ... have you accomplished any of your New Year's Resolutions? Or are you like Aaron and prefer to make goals, instead? info_outlineWe have officially begun counting down till San Diego Comic-Con! So, of course, that means Aaron and Jack spend a good portion of the episode talking about the TV goodies (or lack there-of) happening next week.
The Emmy nominations were also announced this week, so we not only try to figure out who will win in this insane race but dig through some of the snubs (ie: No Twin Peaks or Last Man on Earth!) For shame!
NEWS HIGHLIGHTS THIS WEEK:
- Game of Thrones Peter Dinklage scored his seventh Emmy nomination for supporting actor in a drama series. Dinklage is now the most nominated person ever in the category.
- Sandra Oh becomes first Asian woman to score lead actress Emmy nom for Killing Eve.
- FX has renewed Pose for a second season
- Three new Archie comics series are in the works.
-
- The first of which is an updated animated incarnation of Archie and his friends. There have been numerous Archie cartoons in the past, but this one will reportedly lean more towards comedy than the current comic book series or even Riverdale.
- The second show is also an animated series, with Josie from Josie and the Pussycats in the lead. That series is described as a "horror-tinged" story.
- The third is a live-action adaptation of Sam Hill, a private detective character whose adventures have only been sporadically published within the last few decades. Sam Hill is far from an obvious choice for an adaptation, but it could be a sign that the company is attempting to expand its reach. The accompanying report states the three shows are being pitched to streaming services and broadcast networks.
- Season 22 of South Park will premiere on September 26.
- FX's Y: The Last Man series has been cast. Barry Keoghan has been signed to portray Yorick Brown, an amateur escape artist and the only human male who survived a catastrophic plague that nearly wiped out his gender. Yorick and his Capuchin monkey, Ampersand, may be the only two male mammals left alive. Imogen Poots will play Hero Brown, Yorick’s sister and an EMT who has her own burdens to bear in the new world. Diane Lane will co-star as Senator Jennifer Brown, Yorick and Hero’s mother. Captain Marvel co-star Lashana Lynch has nabbed the fan favorite role of Agent 355, a Secret Service operative who becomes Yorick’s protector and one of the most memorable characters in the comic. Juliana Canfield will portray Yorick’s girlfriend, Beth, while Marin Ireland will play Nora, “the president’s senior assistant and right hand.”
