Recently I've been getting my best insights from the baseball field. Observing my son's physiology as he was going up to bat, I could tell something was off. Normally a very consistent hitter he has come into a slump and the path to success seemed obvious to me. Looking at his path to success, I found it quite applicable to my own struggles which lie in my point of focus.

As I prepare for my 4th marathon, I was reminded of a story of heavyweight boxing champion Wladimir Klitschko. I was told one of the reason he was such a great fighter was because he, by design, scheduled months of vacation time after each of his main event fights. Subconsciously, this gave his body permission to effectively "leave it all out on the canvas" as he didn't have to worry about saving anything for a training session the next day. His competitors on the other hand, were back at the gym the next morning. Have a quick listen and see where you may be "saving for tomorrow"...

Spending hours on hours at my kids sporting events over the last few months gave me a little time to reflect. One thing I noticed was the main difference between the players was their ability to know where to be on the field at all times. The kids that knew exactly where to be in any given situation tend to stand out as a better player regardless of athletic abililty. This same concept of knowing where to be (internally speaking) reigns true for adults also. Knowing what state we should be in based on situation can be the difference between a perspective of problems or a...

The idea of a plan sounds too simple to be a key factor in our ability to keep our systems calm and regulated. I'm always looking for ways to shorten the window of time I spend in a sympathetic nervous state. Recently I found, a simple plan, even if its the wrong plan helps give form and purpose to activity. Activity without form and purpose can cause worry, fear, anxiety, stress and more of the things that if not adjusted could lead to long term problems. Have a quick listen with me to see what I found and how building a simple plan can have a huge impact on how you feel.

Why do people struggle losing weight or sticking to a new year plan? The answer isn't discipline, laziness or motivation. The answer, in my opinion, is based on the priorities of the body. When under threat the body needs to conserve energy and there is really no time to exercise, lose weight or commit to anything outside of survival. Have a quick listen and see if this applies to you.

Staying cool under pressure is definitely a skill that can and should be developed. Bringing unneeded emotions into a situation usually distracts from executing the plan and can really make a bigger problem out of thing. This past week I was a witness to a dad that had just too much and flew off the handle when his kid accidently spilt a drink. Unfortunately more people act this way and don't know that there is an alternative to an emotional outburst over a tiny problem. Even with situations like that, there are millions more where we get triggered during conversation. In...
info_outlineThe lymphatic system plays a vital role in maintaining the body's immune function and fluid balance. When working optimally, it efficiently removes waste products, excess fluid, and toxins from the body. However, when it's sluggish or compromised, it can lead to a buildup of these waste materials, which may contribute to fatigue and a general feeling of malaise. Understanding the connection between the lymphatic system and fatigue can shed light on how improving lymphatic function can offer relief. Here's how:
1. Removal of Toxins and Waste:
- The lymphatic system acts as the body's internal "drainage system", helping to clear away toxins and metabolic waste from tissues. When this system is sluggish, waste can accumulate, potentially leading to increased oxidative stress and inflammation—factors that can contribute to fatigue.
2. Supporting Immune Function:
- Lymph nodes, a component of the lymphatic system, produce and store cells that fight infection and diseases. A sluggish lymphatic flow means the immune system may not function at its peak, possibly leading to frequent illnesses or chronic infections, which can cause fatigue.
3. Improved Protein and Nutrient Transport:
- The lymphatic system also aids in transporting essential nutrients and proteins to where they are needed. Optimizing this transport can ensure that cells receive the nourishment they need to produce energy efficiently.
4. Regulation of Fluid Balance:
- A compromised lymphatic system can lead to lymphedema, a condition where there's an accumulation of lymph fluid in the body's tissues. This can result in swelling, heaviness, and feelings of fatigue.
5. Alleviation of Chronic Inflammation:
- Chronic inflammation, often a result of accumulated toxins and a struggling immune system, can be a major contributor to fatigue. By supporting lymphatic health, you can help reduce inflammation, thereby alleviating fatigue.
6. Supporting Gut Health:
- Lymphatic vessels in the intestines, known as lacteals, play a role in absorbing and transporting fats from the digestive system. A well-functioning lymphatic system supports optimal gut function, and since the gut is closely linked to overall well-being and energy levels, this can help counter fatigue.
How to Enhance Lymphatic Function:
1. Lymphatic Massage:
- Gentle massaging can stimulate the flow of lymph, promoting the drainage of toxins and waste.
2. Exercise:
- Regular movement, especially exercises that involve jumping or bouncing like rebounding, can stimulate lymph flow.
3. Stay Hydrated:
- Drinking enough water ensures that lymph remains fluid and can flow efficiently.
4. Dry Brushing:
- This technique involves brushing the skin with a firm brush to stimulate the lymphatic system.
5. Deep Breathing:
- Breathwork exercises can help in the movement of lymph through the body, given the close anatomical relationship of the major thoracic (chest) ducts of the lymphatic system to the respiratory system.
In conclusion, supporting and optimizing the function of the lymphatic system can play a crucial role in alleviating fatigue. By ensuring efficient removal of waste and toxins and supporting immune function, you can boost overall energy levels and feelings of vitality.
