Episode 81: Avoiding Pain
Recently I've been getting my best insights from the baseball field. Observing my son's physiology as he was going up to bat, I could tell something was off. Normally a very consistent hitter he has come into a slump and the path to success seemed obvious to me. Looking at his path to success, I found it quite applicable to my own struggles which lie in my point of focus.

Episode 80: Leave It All Out On The Canvas
As I prepare for my 4th marathon, I was reminded of a story of heavyweight boxing champion Wladimir Klitschko. I was told one of the reason he was such a great fighter was because he, by design, scheduled months of vacation time after each of his main event fights. Subconsciously, this gave his body permission to effectively "leave it all out on the canvas" as he didn't have to worry about saving anything for a training session the next day. His competitors on the other hand, were back at the gym the next morning. Have a quick listen and see where you may be "saving for tomorrow" in situations where you should be draining the reserves for victory.

Episode 79: Knowing Where To Be
Spending hours on hours at my kids sporting events over the last few months gave me a little time to reflect. One thing I noticed was the main difference between the players was their ability to know where to be on the field at all times. The kids that knew exactly where to be in any given situation tend to stand out as a better player regardless of athletic abililty. This same concept of knowing where to be (internally speaking) reigns true for adults also. Knowing what state we should be in based on situation can be the difference between a perspective of problems or a perspective of opportunities. Have a listen and see what you think.

I'm always looking for ways to shorten the window of time I spend in a sympathetic nervous state. Recently I found, a simple plan, even if its the wrong plan helps give form and purpose to activity. Episode 70: The Power of the Community
"The Power of the Community" lies not just in the collective strength of its members, but in the profound impact of shared experiences and mutual support. When we actively listen to others' problems and experiences, we engage in a process of collective healing and learning. Each story shared is a mirror reflecting our own struggles, often illuminating aspects of our lives we've overlooked or suppressed. The advice and insights offered by others, drawn from their unique journeys, can be surprisingly relevant and transformative for us. This communal exchange of wisdom fosters an environment where empathy and understanding flourish, encouraging personal growth and emotional resilience. One of the most significant aspects of community interaction is the revelation of subconscious issues that we, as individuals, might be hiding from ourselves. In a supportive group setting, when others voice their challenges and perspectives, it often resonates with our own unacknowledged issues. This process of collective introspection can be incredibly powerful, as it brings to light the hidden obstacles impeding our personal development. By recognizing and confronting these shared struggles, we can embark on a path of self-improvement and self-awareness. The community thus becomes a catalyst for individual transformation, proving that together, we can uncover deeper truths about ourselves and embark on a journey towards holistic well-being.

Episode 66: Top 5 Communication Methods - Problems begin and end with communication
In today's digital age, we have a plethora of communication methods at our fingertips. From the quick text or DM to the traditional face-to-face conversation, each mode has its own strengths and weaknesses. Let's dive into a ranking of the top 5 forms of communication, starting from the least effective to the most. 5) Text or DM While texting or direct messaging is undeniably convenient and quick, it's also the most prone to misinterpretation. The lack of vocal tone, facial expressions, and immediate feedback can lead to misunderstandings. Emojis can help, but they're no substitute for the nuances of human expression. 4) Email Emails are a step up from texting in terms of formality and structure. They allow for more detailed explanations and are great for documentation. However, they still lack the immediacy of real-time conversation and can be easily ignored or lost in a crowded inbox. 3) Voice Note Voice notes combine the convenience of texting with the personal touch of hearing someone's voice. They allow for tone and emphasis, reducing the chances of misinterpretation. However, they're still asynchronous, meaning there's a delay between when the message is sent and when it's received. 2) Phone Call Phone calls offer real-time conversation without the need for physical presence. They allow for immediate feedback, clarification, and the warmth of human interaction. The main drawback? They still lack the visual cues that come with face-to-face interactions. 1) Face-to-Face Conversation The gold standard of communication. Nothing beats the depth and richness of a face-to-face conversation. It offers the full spectrum of human interaction – words, tone, facial expressions, body language, and immediate feedback. It fosters genuine connection, understanding, and empathy. Let's take a deep dive in today's podcast

Episode 64: Sugar and the Sympathetically Dominant Body
09/07/2023
Episode 64: Sugar and the Sympathetically Dominant Body
The autonomic nervous system (ANS) is composed of two primary branches: the sympathetic nervous system (SNS) and the parasympathetic nervous system (PNS). The SNS is responsible for the body's "fight or flight" response, a primal reaction that prepares the body to respond to perceived threats. In today's fast-paced and often stressful world, many individuals find themselves with an overactive SNS, or in a chronically "sympathetic dominant" state. How does sugar play into this? Let's delve in. 1. Immediate Energy Surge: When the body perceives a threat and enters a "fight or flight" mode, it needs quick energy. Sugar, specifically glucose, provides this energy. Consuming sugar gives an immediate spike in energy, which the body, when in a sympathetic state, interprets as a beneficial aid to either face the threat or flee from it. 2. Cravings: In a sympathetically dominant state, there's a higher energy demand. The body often craves quick energy sources, like sugar, to fulfill this demand. Over time, this can result in a cycle of sugar dependence, where the body relies on regular sugar intake to maintain energy levels and combat feelings of fatigue. 3. Blood Sugar Fluctuations and Stress: Consuming sugar leads to a rapid spike in blood glucose levels. In response, the pancreas releases insulin to move glucose from the bloodstream into cells. A rapid surge in sugar can lead to a subsequent rapid drop, known as a "sugar crash." This crash can produce feelings of lethargy, irritability, and mood swings. These fluctuations put additional stress on the body, further driving the sympathetic state. 4. Inflammation and Immune Response: Excessive sugar intake can promote inflammation in the body. Chronic inflammation is a form of prolonged stress, which can again perpetuate the sympathetic dominant state. Additionally, inflammation can trigger immune responses, diverting energy resources and promoting a state of internal stress. 5. Impaired Cognitive Function: In a sympathetic state, higher-order cognitive functions, such as decision-making, planning, and impulse control, can be impaired. When combined with frequent sugar consumption, this can lead to poor dietary choices, perpetuating a cycle of sugar intake. So, what can we do? Awareness is the first step. Recognizing the relationship between chronic stress, sympathetic dominance, and sugar intake is crucial. From there, individuals can work to: Reduce Sugar Intake: Opt for natural sugar sources like fruits and avoid processed and refined sugars. Prioritize Stress Management: Techniques such as meditation, deep breathing exercises, physical activity, and getting adequate sleep can all help counteract the effects of chronic stress. Stay Hydrated: Drinking enough water can help manage sugar cravings and support overall bodily functions. Consume Balanced Meals: Incorporating protein and healthy fats can stabilize blood sugar levels and reduce the need for sugary pick-me-ups. In conclusion, while sugar provides a quick source of energy that the body might crave in a sympathetically dominant state, its long-term impact can perpetuate the cycle of stress and imbalance in the ANS. By understanding this relationship, we can make informed choices that support a more balanced and harmonious bodily state.

Episode 63: The Lymphatic System - Unclog for more energy!
08/30/2023
Episode 63: The Lymphatic System - Unclog for more energy!
The lymphatic system plays a vital role in maintaining the body's immune function and fluid balance. When working optimally, it efficiently removes waste products, excess fluid, and toxins from the body. However, when it's sluggish or compromised, it can lead to a buildup of these waste materials, which may contribute to fatigue and a general feeling of malaise. Understanding the connection between the lymphatic system and fatigue can shed light on how improving lymphatic function can offer relief. Here's how: 1. Removal of Toxins and Waste: - The lymphatic system acts as the body's internal "drainage system", helping to clear away toxins and metabolic waste from tissues. When this system is sluggish, waste can accumulate, potentially leading to increased oxidative stress and inflammation—factors that can contribute to fatigue. 2. Supporting Immune Function: - Lymph nodes, a component of the lymphatic system, produce and store cells that fight infection and diseases. A sluggish lymphatic flow means the immune system may not function at its peak, possibly leading to frequent illnesses or chronic infections, which can cause fatigue. 3. Improved Protein and Nutrient Transport: - The lymphatic system also aids in transporting essential nutrients and proteins to where they are needed. Optimizing this transport can ensure that cells receive the nourishment they need to produce energy efficiently. 4. Regulation of Fluid Balance: - A compromised lymphatic system can lead to lymphedema, a condition where there's an accumulation of lymph fluid in the body's tissues. This can result in swelling, heaviness, and feelings of fatigue. 5. Alleviation of Chronic Inflammation: - Chronic inflammation, often a result of accumulated toxins and a struggling immune system, can be a major contributor to fatigue. By supporting lymphatic health, you can help reduce inflammation, thereby alleviating fatigue. 6. Supporting Gut Health: - Lymphatic vessels in the intestines, known as lacteals, play a role in absorbing and transporting fats from the digestive system. A well-functioning lymphatic system supports optimal gut function, and since the gut is closely linked to overall well-being and energy levels, this can help counter fatigue. How to Enhance Lymphatic Function: 1. Lymphatic Massage: - Gentle massaging can stimulate the flow of lymph, promoting the drainage of toxins and waste. 2. Exercise: - Regular movement, especially exercises that involve jumping or bouncing like rebounding, can stimulate lymph flow. 3. Stay Hydrated: - Drinking enough water ensures that lymph remains fluid and can flow efficiently. 4. Dry Brushing: - This technique involves brushing the skin with a firm brush to stimulate the lymphatic system. 5. Deep Breathing: - Breathwork exercises can help in the movement of lymph through the body, given the close anatomical relationship of the major thoracic (chest) ducts of the lymphatic system to the respiratory system. In conclusion, supporting and optimizing the function of the lymphatic system can play a crucial role in alleviating fatigue. By ensuring efficient removal of waste and toxins and supporting immune function, you can boost overall energy levels and feelings of vitality.

Episode 57: Going with the grain....not against it!
Being in sales for over 2 decades I've been able to see two different philosophies as it relates to selling. One strategy is to get out there and sell, don't take no for an answer and explain to the buyer why they need your product or service. Also, it's a numbers game, get through as many "no's" as necessary to get your "yes". The other strategy is to focus on building demand. If you're able to broadcast the features and benefits of your product or service to enough people, they will come and buy. Also, creating a system for automation streamlines the entire process. One system get's results early, the other takes time to set up. One physically grinds you, the other is a bit more relaxed. The catch is, both systems can work. In this podcast I go over some of my experiences in both systems and what I found works best for me.
