Finnegan is perhaps best known as one of the original panelists on VH1‘s Best Week Ever and as Chad, the only white roommate in the “Mad Real World” sketch on Comedy Central‘s Chappelle’s Show. Additional television appearances as himself or performing stand up have included “Conan”, “The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson”, “Would You Rather...with Graham Norton”, “Good Afternoon America” and multiple times on The Today Show and Countdown with Keith Olbermann, and on History‘s I Love the 1880s. He hosted TV Land’s game show “Game Time”. As an actor, Finnegan portrayed the supporting role of “Carl” in the film Eden Court, a ticket agent in “Knight and Day“ and several guest roles including a talk show host on “The Good Wife“. In October 2006, Finnegan’s debut stand up comedy CD titled Two For Flinching was released by Comedy Central Records, with a follow-up national tour of college campuses from January to April 2007. “Au Contraire!” was released by Warner Bros. Records in 2009. His third special “The Fun Part” was filmed at the Wilbur Theatre in Boston on April 4, 2013 and debuted on Netflix on April 15, 2014.

I’m Simon Ostrovsky, an award-winning journalist and documentary filmmaker and I've spent much of my career reporting from conflict zones and authoritarian countries. I’m currently a Special Correspondent for PBS NewsHour covering Ukraine and Russia. Previously, I was a correspondent for VICE News, where I created and reported Russian Roulette, the documentary series that followed Russia’s intervention in Ukraine from its beginning. My reporting has taken me to front lines, occupied territories and places where getting to the story is often the hardest part of telling it. I’ve always believed there’s no substitute for being there: talking to the people involved, seeing what’s happening for yourself, checking what you’re told and coming back with something the audience didn’t already know. I don’t want to sit at home and tell you what I think about whatever everyone is arguing about that day. I want to go places, talk to people, find things out and show you what I found. The problem is that we’ve built an online news economy where it can be easier to make money talking about other people’s reporting than paying for the reporting itself. Substack is where I’ll write directly to readers, share what I’m working on and take you behind the scenes of how the reporting gets done. Some stories will be quick. Others may take months.
