Romans 1:1 “Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated unto the gospel of God,” Servant is the word "doulos" in Greek. In the lands and Times of the Bible, a servant could choose by his free will to continue to work for his master after 7 years as a servant. He could feel like his master was a good Master who cared for him very well, and all his needs were met. So he would decide to continue with the master....

After the persecution that arose about Stephen, and as the Believers were scattered abroad from Jerusalem, the Word started to live in the surrounding areas. The apostles were teaching God's Word. The following Scriptures record the Gentiles first receiving the Word of God and believing and receiving spirit. I'm going to read these two chapters together and point out a few things as I go through them. Acts 10:1 – 48 “There was a certain man in...

Signs, Miracles, and wonders were being done, and many people were added to the church daily—first 5,000, then 3,000 as the Lord added to the church daily, and now, here in chapter 5, many more were being added. The power of God was in great force and was seen in the early part of the Christian church. Great respect came upon all who saw it and were a part of it. After the days immediately...

God 486 – Acts Chapters 3 & 4 Below are written all the Scriptures and some of my notes, making it easy for you to follow along with the lesson right from your devices. Ten days after the Ascension comes the day of Pentecost, the day on the Christian calendar when the Holy Spirit was first made available. After all the accomplished works of Jesus Christ, it is the biggest day in the Christian calendar. As we think about that and get ready to celebrate that wonderful day, I'm doing a small series on what happened after it was first available to be born again. Acts 3:1 – 26 “Now Peter...

After Jesus Christ's resurrection, he was on Earth for 40 days until the Ascension, when he was gathered up to be on God's right-hand side. During those 40 days, he instructed his Apostles and disciples on what they were to do next. In this podcast, we'll look at that in detail. Matthew 28:16 “Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, into a mountain where Jesus had appointed them.” By Jesus's instructions to...

To teach everything involved in Jesus Christ's ministry would take many hours, but here's a teaching on the part of Jesus Christ's Ministry that we can see from the Bible. John 8:28b & 29 “I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things. 29 And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him.” His father, God, taught...

God 483 – The Beginnings of Jesus Christ Ministry Below are written all the Scriptures and some of my notes, making it easy for you to follow along with the lesson right from your devices. In God's Word, there are many beginnings to the life of Jesus Christ. There are many parts of beginning His life, just like every other human being. Sometimes, we might go to college or some other endeavor. I'm thinking about what the beginning of your college career is. Is it the day you start school and take your first class? Yes, that is, but what about the preparation? When you apply, when you get...
info_outline255 - The Renewed Mind
The Key to Power
I've been studying how grace and renewing of one's mind work together. Being strong in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ gives the believer liberty, freedom, and peace of mind. Renewing the mind gives the believer the power to overcome the world. To get answers to prayers, to be more than conquerors, and to be victorious. Both are very useful.
To renew one's mind simply means to hold the Word in your mind and act accordingly. In this Biblical Studies Teaching, we will also study the changed mind and the repented mind. The Greek word for the 'renewed' mind is literally translated as “transfigure” or “transformed.” metamorphoo. Believers are to get a new image in their minds as to who they are. Romans 12 gives the basic information.
Romans 12:1 & 2 “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”
Romans 13:14 “But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.”
“To put on,” this has to be of works. It could not be referring to salvation because salvation comes by grace. “not of works lest any man should boast.” Where can a man put on the Lord Jesus Christ? It must be put on in your mind. That is work. But fun work.
Ephesians 4:22 – 32 “That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; 23 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; 24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness. 25 Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another. 26 Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath: 27 Neither give place to the devil. 28 Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth. 29 Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers. 30 And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption. 31 Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: 32 And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.”
We renew our minds to what God has created in us and we live it. God has made available to us through the accomplished works of Jesus Christ wisdom, righteousness, sanctification, redemption, eternal life, the forgiveness of sins and so much all mentioned in the Church Epistles.
In the Church Epistles time and time again it also refers to the renewed mind.
Philippians 2:5 “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:”
Colossians 3:5 – 11 “Mortify [make dead] therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence [lust], and covetousness, which is idolatry: 6 For which things' sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience: 7 In the which ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them. 8 But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth. 9 Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds; 10 And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him: 11 Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free: but Christ is all, and in all.
The power of God in Christ in you remains dominant until you activate it by put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him. Then the power becomes manifested in the world of the senses. You change your mind to what the Word says and act that way. Then comes the power of God you act.
Colossians 3:12 – 17 “Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; 13 Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye. 14 And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness. 15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful. 16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. 17 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.”
The person with the holy spirit must put on God's thoughts in his mind and expresses himself as God's Word says to have power.
Some keys and benefits of putting on the mind of Christ. We must study God's Word, and not what people say about the Word. We use the keys on how the Bible interprets itself. So that we say and believe what the Word says. We will be manifesting who we really are when we renewed our minds. We will have our prayers answered, see signs, miracles, and wonders as we act just like we see from the Word of God.
To put Jesus Christ in your mind is not enough. We have to act upon it. We have to work at it. This process of building Christ in your mind is a deliberate process that you must do by your freedom of will. You decide what you're going to do with the Word of God that you've put on your mind. It's a day-by-day moment-by-moment decision. You will act upon it according to what you decide you want to do. I can tell you that sitting on the fence is on the devil side. There is no fence.
Walking in love, living in love, fellowship with like-minded believers, speaking the same things according to the Word of God, are all keys to the renewed mind.
Acts 2:38 “Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.”
To repent is to change your mind. To change your mind to what Romans 10:9 & 10 says you get saved. You get all that salvation makes available.
Romans 10:9 & 10 “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”
This is an ongoing process as we continue to learn God's Word and see examples from God's Word. We can also see examples from other saints who walk according to God's Word.
2 Corinthians 10:3 – 5 “For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: 4 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) 5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;”
We accurately think in our minds the thoughts obedient to Christ thoughts.
Romans 6:11 Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.
'Reckon' is sometimes translated as 'reason.' It's the Greek word 'logizomai' The root word being 'logos.' Bullinger says “It is to count, to reckon, to calculate, to compute, to think and to consider. This is what you do in your mind. This is mind work. Comparing spiritual things with spiritual things, also called Scripture build-up.
Romans 6:12 - “Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof. 13 Neither yield ye your members [parts of your body, like your mind and body] as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members [mind and body] as instruments of righteousness unto God. 14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace. 15 What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid. 16 Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his [the devil or God] servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness? 17 But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you. 18 Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness. 19 I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have yielded your members [mind and body] servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so now yield your members [mind and body] servants to righteousness unto holiness. 20 For when ye were the servants of sin, ye were free from righteousness. 21 What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death. 22 But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life. 23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
1 John 5:1 – 3 “Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him. 2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments. 3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.”
Not Grievous.
1 John 3:22 & 23 “And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight. [By the renewed mind in action]. 23 And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment.”
Two singulars equal plural. The commandment that he, Jesus Christ, gave us
John 13:34 & 35 “ A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. 35 By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.”
John 15:12 “This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.”
1 John 3:24 “And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us.”
We renew our minds to who and what we are by the spirit he gave us.
1 John 5:3 – 5 “ For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous. 4 For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. 5 Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?”
We now have the power and the victory over the world by the spirit He gave us.
Here are some Scriptures to help us personally make decisions for ourselves. Not for others or to judge.
1 Corinthians 6:12 “All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient [profitable]: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any.”
1 Corinthians 10:23 – 24 “All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient [profitable]: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not. [Is it loving] 24 Let no man seek his own [things], but every man another's [things] wealth [wealth is not in the text].”
A couple of verses fairly close together saying something similar. These verses can help us as individuals figure out what we will allow in our lives. All things are lawful for me, but not all things are profitable. When coming to things that are profitable we have to look at both short-term and long-term. In these two sections of God's Word, we can see that not everything edifies or is loving, some things may bring you under its power. We should look out for others needs.
Until the next time we get together, may God bless you abundantly.
