The Igloo Interview

succeedorlearn's podcast

Release Date: 02/21/2016

On Monday, January 25th, 2016, the story of the Brooklyn Igloo hit the internet. Two days before, my friends and I were privy to an inside look, a text message from our good friend Justin Seeley. iglootext Two days later this story exploded and spanned across 100 countries and 10 languages. Interviews, write ups, famous reposts and Snapchat gif creation all later ensued.  But to me, I wanted to hear more of the story.  Maybe details that wouldn't have been shared with the local news, but would be laughable between two friends.  That's what this episode contains, a more intimate look at the the Brooklyn Igloo story.  Enjoy.
You are listening to the Succeed or Learn podcast: episode ONE. Today I am talking to Justin Seeley (@Seel3y), one of the 3 Bozo’s from Brooklyn (we’ll explore that further) , that created a viral story that you most likely have heard of, seeing how it was covered in over 100 countries and 10 languages over the span of last week. This is Chandler Wardlaw and welcome to the first episode. If this is your first time listening, and I’ll bet you $100 that it is, I appreciate you lending your ears. The Succeed or Learn podcast is going to hopefully be produced once a week for your enjoyment and show notes can be found at succeedorlearn.com a Blog that I’ve created to explore the Successes and Learning moments of like-minded peers. PLEASE Come back often. You can also follow me on Twitter @cwardlaw or @succeedorlearn and also on Instagram @succeedorlearn. For the very first interview that we will be diving into, I had a lot of ideas on where and who to start with. It wasn’t until a text message turned viral story did I think that a closer look at the NYC Igloo story from January 25th of this year would be interesting. The reason I thought it would be interesting is because frankly, all the interviews I heard and read sucked. In listening to mine and Justin’s conversation you’ll notice it’s just that, a conversation. But it does provide what i think is a unique perspective seeing how we have such a close relationship. I have known Justin for 3-4 years spanning back to our schooling at the University of Arizona. Justin has already in his young career started and sold an online food ordering company, and now lives and works in NYC as employees #1 at Draft (@playdraft), an online app centered around online sports gaming. All in all, this interview aims to give you a closer perspective of the Igloo story told straight from the horses mouth. I’d like to jump into what will sound like two friends catching up and laughing over a crazy story - the Brooklyn Igloo.

Ashton Kutcher even posted it on Thursday (maybe because he's an airbnb backer ?)   Zoey DeChanel posted it too.
I watched a 13 minute video posted by the National Film Board of Canada, and what was amazing is that it turns out
"a single eskimos can build an overnight igloo in 40 minutes" Why did it take 3 grown men two full days?
- USA TODAY
… Yes, it's true, Airbnb really did take down a listing for a homemade igloo in Brooklyn because it didn't meet occupancy standards. But the lodging rental site has plenty of other unusual options, from an inflatable dome in the U.K. to a boot in New Zealand.”
What makes an inflatable dome more structurally sound than an 8ft igloo?
Have you friended Duston on instagram or twitter? The airbnb customer service rep that broke the news to you. NO

Apparently this was the third worst winter storm to hit NYC recording 27.9 inches of snow, have you guys seen snow like this before? Do you feel you got hammered or just a light dusting?
Snow started Friday night, 9pm at a snow party until Mid day Sunday
It seems and sounds like this was a 2 month long process as far as planning, what did you do to prepare for the igloo build?
Saturday, threw all the snow together on Saturday and Sunday.

The best way I could attempt to quantify the reach of this story is  that u guys were. "Storied in over 100 countries and 10 different languages”

Why do people in France care about an igloo in Brooklyn? Random people in Norway were talking trash. Pat said he was doing Irish radio interview and Hong Kong.
Reached out to Tinder and got up to their CEO , but couldn’t think a good enough pitch to them about sponsorship.
