info_outlineIn this episode of the Surviving Healthcare podcast, you will hear a discussion on value-based payment system in healthcare, including a discussion of how far we have to go to make such a transition reality and the obstacles that will be faced. My guest for this journey is Matt Fisher, who is chair of the Health Law Group at the law firm, Mirick O'Connell in Boston, and who has also been named one of Massachusetts' Super Lawyers by Boston Magazine and Law and Politics for the past two years.
Our conversation begins with a discussion of what exactly is meant by a “value-based system” and how that differs from the traditional fee-for-service model, in which physicians and health care delivery is charged on a per-procedure basis. We discuss the differences in the incentives and what effect they have on outcomes, efficiency and quality of care.
You'll hear a discussion of the need for greater transparency in the system, setting benchmarks in a value-based system, and how to determine the value of care. I hope you enjoy.
