During the weekend we took time to watch the latest Tom Hanks film called OTTO. Of course Hanks is a great actor and he chooses only good shows to be in. This was a touching film a bit of a tearjerker and for the most part I would recommend it. However today Tom Hanks made the news by saying that AI is getting so good that he can make movies after he is dead. You know what, he's probably right. Part of my problem in life is I am quite old-fashioned and old school and as a result I am often way in the past and out of touch with what is going on now. But I have another problem is that I often have many ideas and things that I put together and create that are too far out there and there's no interest in it yet. My ideas and I am out there in the future but nobody else is out there with me. And a number of years ago I got in trouble because I suggested to some significant people in some organizations that they might wanna go a little bit easy on this Mother's Day and this Father's Day...
info_outlineI think most of us take ourselves too seriously. And there's a difference between taking your work seriously and taking yourself too seriously.
That is particularly true in the work that I do. From time to time years ago a frightened young intern would come to me and confessed they had messed something up for a radio program and they were here to ask for forgiveness.
Usually that was no problem though I made it a point to try and ask them to think and do some remedial work to try and avoid that from happening again. I would then share with a smile ... That they were not the first person to make that mistake in the industry and they won't be the last. And then sometimes I would add, and remember it's only a radio program.
I felt I had worked hard and put in a good solid 15 minutes of news, some views, a touch of entertainment and some wisdom insight and truth that might be helpful about making an impact in the world.
But I also know that in this business like in almost every business, timing is vital and just as I was posting the program we got news of the terrible shooting in Nashville. And obviously that was and should dominate the news and hopefully no views of why it happened or how it happened, at least for a while.
You see in the midst of that I am not going to increase the amount of perhaps useless noise by putting my radio program right smack dab in the middle of the conversation. And so I did not,but now I'd like to talk about how important it might be to learn how to makean impact for good in this obviously broken and very sad world,
