Hello, beautiful soul,
Welcome, and thank you for joining me on The Everyday Life Balance Show, a podcast dedicated to helping you find harmony in your everyday life. I'm Pascale Gibon, your host. Today, we'll discuss something that touches all of us: our relationship with habits that may no longer serve our highest good.
Could you take a deep breath in and out with me?
We all carry habits—some uplift us, and others quietly drain our energy and joy. You know that feeling when your heart whispers that it's time for a change? Maybe you've been reaching for that afternoon chocolate bar even though your body craves nourishment. Or perhaps you've been saying "yes" to everyone else while your own dreams sit patiently on the shelf. It could also be constantly checking your phone, skipping meals, or procrastinating on important tasks. Whatever it is, I want you to know – you're not alone, and more importantly, you can create beautiful change.
Sometimes, unhealthy habits become automatic. We link them to comfort, convenience, or even our identity.
Our beautiful minds are designed to create shortcuts – little automated routines that make life easier. But sometimes, these shortcuts become pathways that lead us away from our true desires. That chocolate bar might represent comfort after a stressful meeting. That "yes" might stem from a deep desire to be loved and accepted.
But here's where the magic begins – awareness. When we shine a gentle light on our habit patterns, we can start to understand them with compassion. And from that place of understanding, transformation becomes possible.
I'd love to share a personal story with you. Years ago, I found myself caught in a stressful cycle of lateness that was draining my energy and affecting my relationships. The habit felt impossible to break because it was tied to my identity as "someone who is always late." But when I finally realized that this habit was actually holding me back from being my best self, I made the decision to arrive on time at all my appointments.
So, let's explore how you can create lasting change with intention
Step 1: Loving Awareness
Start by asking yourself these heart-centred questions:
- What habit in my life feels heavy rather than light?
- How does this habit affect my energy, joy, and connection to myself?
- What would freedom from this habit feel like in my body?
Take a moment to journal your answers. There is power in putting pen to paper.
Step 2: Create Your Sacred Plan
Intentions are powerful, but without a plan, they often fade. Now, let's craft a plan honouring both your desire for change and your need for gentle progression. Remember, we're not looking for overnight transformation. Our aim is to nurture sustainable growth.
If you're working with food habits:
- Start your day with a nourishing ritual, warm lemon water or a green smoothie.
- Create a beautiful shopping list filled with colourful, life-giving foods that make your body sing.
- Transform "I should eat better" into "I choose foods that fuel my vibrant life."
For productivity habits:
- Break big projects into small chunks if procrastination gets in the way.
- Create a morning routine that sets you up for success
- Celebrate small wins along the way
Step 3: Embrace the Journey
A truth that might hold you back is that change isn't instant. A new habit takes approximately 99 days to become part of your natural rhythm. During this time, you might experience 'growth moments' – those challenging times when old patterns try to resurface.
In moments of doubt, self-compassion becomes your superpower. Instead of harsh self-judgment, try this affirmation: "I'm learning and growing every day. Each step forward is a victory, no matter how small." Be patient and compassionate, and speak kindly to yourself.
Step 4: Take Inspired Action
The bridge between intention and transformation is action—but not just any action—inspired action that aligns with your heart's wisdom.
Consider these powerful questions:
- What one small step would make me feel good today?
- How can I make this change feel joyful rather than restrictive?
- What support do I need to flourish?
Step 5: Build Your Support Circle
Consider:
- Finding an accountability partner who believes in your growth and resonates with your vision. When things get tough, they'll remind you of the why behind your decision. And when you do succeed, you can celebrate together!
- Joining a supportive group or working with a coach to accomplish your goal
- Creating a sacred space and ritual for daily reflection and celebration.
Your Challenge This Week
1. Choose one unhealthy habit you're ready to transform with love.
2. Write a heartfelt intention for this change.
3. Design three small, doable steps toward your goal.
4. Take one inspired action today.
