info_outlineWelcome to Episode 2 of season 2. Today I am chatting with the fabulous Erica Leman! Erica is multi-passion working a full time job that she loves AND owns a successful and growing Wedding Photography business, Sweet Alice Photography, in Hudson Valley, NY.
This episode is FILLED with GOLDEN nuggets of wisdom from her journey. We discuss everything from how she balances it all between her full time job, her business and her life to overcoming comparisonitis. We chat a bit about how it’s a growing movement of entrepreneurship especially among millennials and doing what’s on your heart.
She shares the boundaries she needed to set, the mindset shifts she had along the way, her approach to attracting the ideal clients, and how gratitude keeps her handling everything with grace.
Powerful Insights from Erica:
“You’re not going to have something in your heart, you’re not going to have this desire in your heart, if it’s not meant for you…It’s not going to be there and you’ll never get that opportunity. Sometimes you have to create your own opportunities”
“There is such an ability and temptation to compete with other people, but I always just think to myself, I can’t photograph every wedding and I don’t want to…I think sometimes we need perspective….are we feeling this way because we really feel competitive against a person or a certain ideal or is it that we really aren’t feeling good about ourselves in that moment.”
“There is always more than enough to go around. People will always find you. And their clients are not my clients and that’s ok.”
“In the beginning, it wasn’t this easy. In the beginning it took me longer. And I think there is something to be said fo that too. In the beginning this will be harder and it’s way normal and you won’t have a work flow down right away, and that’s ok. And just knowing that you have a season to hustle and a season to refine, a season to enjoy it, and that all takes time to get to the place you want to be.”
Tips to move you forward on your journey:
- “You don’t have to be only one thing. We love our labels but you don’t have to be under one of them. I you want to, great, if you don’t want to, also great.”
- Turn your Nightmares into fuel for your dreams. “Sometimes we go through crap. There’s no way of getting around it….Even though these things are not fun to go through, whenever you do go through them, they are a growth point for you. Sometimes your nightmares or nightmare experiences kind of inform your dream and shape them for the future.”
- Raise your prices! “You have your seasons of laying your foundation and that’s when you’re doing things for free and doing things at ver discounted rates, but I don’t think you always have to be there and that’s up to you to make that determination and to know when it’s time to up level”
