In this episode, I chat with Kat Melo, owner of One on One Salon in Rhinebeck, NY. Kat shares her journey about following her intuition from discovering how she realized going to college wasn't right for her to gaining clarity and eventually becoming a successful entrepreneur. We also chatted about intuition, being opening to opportunities, building a support system, being a working mom, remaining flexible in life, and self development.

During our conversation we chat about:

  • Admitting what you want and don’t want is the best place to start when you are trying to figure out what is right for YOU and YOUR journey.
  • It is so important to acknowledge what you don’t want to do, and accept that it is ok if you are not doing what others think you should do.
  • Why finding a support system is key to being successful.
  • Trusting and honing your intuition. Intuition is like building a muscle.  You have to work on listening for it and trusting it, but when you do, the results are amazing and life flows a bit more easily.

Powerful Insights:

  • “You are never the same person you were yesterday. Things are going to change in your life and just go with it.”

  • “Life is always changing.  It is going to throw a curveball at you. Don’t be afraid of that. Don’t let that get you down. It’s going to change.”

  • “When it’s the right time, the universe kind of opens up for you”

  • “My intuition even said it is time for you to not be doing the same thing you’ve done before. It’s time for you to open up and do something you haven’t done."

  • “We need as many good positive relationships too in our life as possible whether they are from our clients or our friends or our family, we need those…I think we all know that we need that support, but we’re not sure if we should really reach out for it….I don’t know if we expect it to kind of just come to us or not, but I think you really need to reach out for it.  You need to meet people that are like you..Find your people at your level and just connect with them so you have the support for where you are right now in your life”

Tips to move you forward on your journey:

  1. Exercising - “Physical momentum, We don’t give it enough credit.  But it does tend to build so when you build the physical momentum just through exercise you are building physical momentum in all your life.”   It also does give you time to like,…your doing something and your mind, its a form of meditation without needing it to be quiet. “
  2. “Don’t get too in your head. It’s so easy to dwell on something that’s not working for you. Just let it go and just move to something that you can just physically change or physically focus on thats positive…Don’t get too stuck!”
  3. Keep learning - Keep learning and reading and going to a class if you have to. Keep listening to those motivational speeches, keep reading the books about business and entrepreneurship, or the topic that interests you. Immerse yourself in it.
