info_outlineJulie Williams is a well established voice over artist who has a long and illustrious list of clients including Pizza Hut, Pampers, Coca-Cola and Disney World to name but a few. She is also a highly sought after audiobook narrator with many titles to her credit. She is an acclaimed voiceover coach and has taught at many of the top VO conferences.
Julie started in radio and discovered she could make money on the side by voicing commercials. She did radio for 38 years and had millions of regular listeners. She has now been doing voiceover work for almost 50 years! She tells us how starting out in radio, which has a particular style of commercial read, can hamper your career unless your mind is open to making the transition to learning a new craft. Julie tells us how she is a big fan of continually training, no matter what stage of your career you are at, as she believes voiceover is not a talent: it is a skill.
Julie believes that when it comes to voiceover, commitment can take you there if you are willing to work on building your skills. She believes it is important to have goals in order to stay motivated, and she shares her strategies for setting specific and focused goals that are task orientated rather than results orientated. Julie has a wonderful attitude towards auditions which means she never feels rejection and she shares this positive approach with us. She also gives us some great advice when it comes to producing your demo.
We also talk about the business side of voiceover, and Julie shares her recipe for success with us: she believes that no matter how talented you are you need to treat your VO career as a business. Julie believes it is crucial to understand the difference between an investment and an expense when it comes to your business. She has some great tips for organizing the business side of things, particularly when it comes to finances - she has an unusual approach to invoicing clients which could save you time and money.
