info_outlineEpisode #164 What if your job didn’t injure you in one moment… but slowly damaged your body over the years?
You never slipped.
You never fell.
Nothing dramatic happened.
But your back started hurting. Your knees got worse. Your wrists didn’t work the way they used to.
You thought: “Maybe I’m just getting older.”
But what if your job was part of the reason?
Welcome to the final episode of our Injury by Injury series, where Carmen Ramirez sits down with attorney Mark Thuesen to explain one of the most misunderstood Workers’ Compensation injuries in California: Cumulative Trauma, or CT.
Unlike a typical workplace accident, cumulative trauma develops gradually. It can come from repetitive movements, heavy lifting, awkward positions, long hours, or years of physical work.
And often, there’s no single day you can point to and say, “That’s when I got hurt.”
🔥 IN THIS EPISODE, MARK BREAKS DOWN:
• Think it’s just aging? Your job could be part of the problem.
• No accident. No fall. No exact injury date. You may still have a Workers’ Comp claim.
• Left or got fired from your job? That doesn’t automatically mean you lost your rights.
• Pain at night or at home? That doesn’t necessarily mean your injury didn’t come from work.
• Insurance denied your claim? Mark explains what the insurance company is actually supposed to investigate.
• Treatment denied? Learn what UR and IMR have to do with getting medical care.
• Got a settlement offer? Mark explains why the first number you hear may not tell the whole story.
THE BIGGEST TAKEAWAY
You don’t have to be certain that your pain is work-related before asking questions.
If you’ve been doing the same job for years and your body is slowly breaking down, don’t automatically assume it’s just aging.
It could be connected to your work.
And you don’t have to figure that out alone.
Sometimes, the best first step is simply talking to a Workers’ Comp attorney and learning what options may be available. Your health comes first.
