Philosophication with Ginger and the Beard
PHILOSOPHICATION WITH GINGER AND THE BEARD

Welcome to Philosophication, the show where two non-experts philosophize about all things complicated, controversial, or simply interesting. We’ll tackle topics ranging from morality and ethics to current events, from politics to pop culture, and from philosophy to whatever else we happen to find interesting. We don’t claim to be experts, and we’re sure to get things wrong from time to time, but one thing you will always find here is a commitment to free and open dialogue on a variety of complex and often difficult topics. We believe one of the best ways to improve our world is to practice and hone our ability to engage in these types of discussions in a civil and honest manner, even when we strongly disagree on a fundamental level. If we improve our abilities in this area, we improve our ability to solve every other problem our society faces. Join us as we attempt to cut through empty rhetoric, look past simple talking points, and challenge deeply held beliefs.

‘Philosophising in…’ is an interview series devoted to exploring the philosophical richness of lesser-studied languages from across the world. Each episode consists of an interview with a philosopher who is an expert in the chosen language, and explore some philosophical ideas distinctive of that linguistic culture, the history of their production and the methodology by which these insights are discovered. The aim of these interviews is to draw attention to the rich philosophical resources of lesser-studied languages and to promote them as media of philosophy, but also to expand the horizons of contemporary philosophy by paying close attention to how concepts translate across languages.

Philosophy Bakes Bread, "food for thought about life and leadership," is a production of the Society of Philosophers in America (SOPHIA), which airs first on WRFL Lexington, 88.1 FM, is subsequently released as a podcast. Philosophy Bakes Bread aims to showcase the public importance of philosophy, both for our everyday lives and for leadership in the policy world. Co-hosts Dr. Eric Thomas Weber and Dr. Anthony Cashio speak with guests each Monday at 2pm Eastern, with episodes to subscribe to or download within a few days later. The show originated with inspiration from a talk that Weber gave in receiving the Mississippi Humanities Council's 2015 Public Scholar Award. He then created a pilot podcast, posting four episodes between then and 2016. In 2017, WRFL welcomed Weber and Cashio's proposal for a SOPHIA sponsored program. Philosophy for the People’s mission is an educational program aimed at overcoming the paucity of serious, fair-minded, and accessible philosophical discourse available to a popular audience. Though we are ourselves dedicated to the Catholic intellectual tradition, we are likewise committed to exploring ideas from all rigorous traditions of philosophizing (scholastic, classical, analytic, and phenomenological). We pursue this mission by providing long-form guided readings of great texts, discussions with expert guests, our own open-ended philosophical discussions of issues and thinkers, live question and answer opportunities, in depth lecture courses, and our own articles and book-length writings. Philosophy for the People’s pedagogical materials will be provided either without charge or for minimal cost to assure provision of broad access to first-rate philosophical education.
