"Joining the Dots between Plants, Planets & People"

Wild Alchemy Lab is a publishing platform and arts collective from botanical studio Mama Xanadu, a vehicle in which to navigate our fractured relationship with nature and the cosmos through both a scientific and esoteric lens. I’m your host and founder, Jemma Foster. This radio series is in conjunction with the Wild Alchemy journal and is a chance to go deeper into topics with contributors, expanding on articles and artwork from the print edition. Each series explores a fundamental element of earth, air, fire and water. Each episode begins with a recording of a plant chosen by our guest, captured using a device that measures the electromagnetic fluctuations within the leaves and roots, converted into MIDI code and played through a synthesizer. We end with an invitation – an act of co-creation and participation that might be in the form of a meditation or immersive exercise. THIS is the Earth series.

A BOOK THAT CHANGED AMERICA... Ernest Thompson Seton was an influential naturalist, and a sometime professional hunter and trapper. Much of this book speaks to the contradictions between these roles. In November 2008, both the PBS series, "Nature," and the BBC series, "Natural World," presented episodes called "The Wolf That Changed America," about Seton, focused in particular on the first story in this book: "Lobo, King of the Currumpaw." Their contention was that his experiences in the capture of Lobo made him the outspoken and controversial activist for wildlife preservation he became. From the Forward: "THESE STORIES are true. Although I have left the strict line of historical truth in many places, the animals in this book were all real characters. They lived the lives I have depicted, and showed the stamp of heroism and personality more strongly by far than it has been in the power of my pen to tell... "Such a collection of histories naturally suggests a common thought a moral it would have been called in the last century. No doubt each different mind will find a moral to its taste, but I hope some will herein find emphasized a moral as old as Scripture: we and the beasts are kin. Man has nothing that the animals have not at least a vestige of, the animals have nothing that man does not in some degree share. "Since, then, the animals are creatures with wants and feelings differing in degree only from our own, they surely have their rights. This fact, now beginning to be recognized by the Caucasian world, was first proclaimed by Moses and was emphasized by the Buddhist over 2,000 years ago." -- E.T. Seton "Lobo" is worth hearing. But you'll be intrigued, too, I think, by the rest of the stories. I was. -- "Grizzly" Smith

Wild By Nature: Stories of Human Connection To The Wild
WILD BY NATURE: STORIES OF HUMAN CONNECTION TO THE WILD

Wild By Nature is a podcast exploring how the natural world shapes our mental health, creativity, identity, wellbeing, leadership, and human connection. In a world that rarely slows down, many of us feel disconnected — from nature, from community, and from ourselves. Through thoughtful conversations and deeply human storytelling, Wild By Nature brings together scientists, environmental thinkers, authors, creatives, wellness experts, and changemakers to explore the powerful relationship between people and the natural world. Hosted by storyteller and thought leader Vian Sharif, the podcast was inspired by a transformative experience in Kenya where reconnecting with nature brought a renewed sense of clarity, purpose, and perspective. That journey sparked a deeper exploration into how nature influences the way we live, think, heal, create, and lead. Each episode translates big ideas around: • Nature & Mental Health • Environmental Science & Psychology • Creativity & Mindfulness • Leadership & Human Behavior • Connection, Belonging & Wellbeing • Ecology, Identity & Personal Growth …into meaningful, accessible conversations listeners can apply to everyday life. Whether you're navigating burnout, searching for deeper connection, seeking inspiration, or simply longing to slow down, Wild By Nature offers space to reconnect — with the Earth, with others, and with yourself. Follow Wild By Nature on your favorite podcast platform, leave a rating and review, and subscribe on YouTube for full video episodes and conversations. New episodes every other week.
