In this 22nd episode of The Confident Physio show, Tristan White and Jess Soding from The Physio Co (TPC) sit down with Eliza Gwillim to get the rundown on why she chose to become a community physio, and how her career has panned out since joining TPC just under a year ago. We delve into Eliza's typical week as a part-time community physiotherapist, highlighting client interactions that remind us of the joy found in helping others achieve milestones that are meaningful to them. Eliza speaks about transitioning from student life to professional work while maintaining a healthy balance between personal time and job responsibilities. She emphasises how support within The Physio Co helped shape her experience positively through regular check-ins, workshops, social events, and mentorship opportunities. When asked what's it been like working your first first job as a community physio, Eliza says: "It's been really good on the whole. It was a learning curve at first. There was a lot more because you're self-managing your diary and communication with all kinds of people like families, next of kin, the clients themselves, and the home care managers. So there was definitely a learning curve. But saying that, the (TPC) team was super supportive, so it wasn't unmanageable." Eliza discusses how she adapted to her new role, and how she has developed professionally across the course of the year with TPC. "I think you settle in pretty quickly ... you've got your clients you look forward to seeing and you kind of shape your week around that, so you you're off to a good start. "Over the nine- ish months I've been here. I've definitely developed a lot as a clinician." Tristan wraps up the episode by reflecting on Eliza's career path—from initially considering hospital work to finding fulfillment in community-based roles—and celebrates how teamwork and guidance have contributed to both personal growth and meaningful client outcomes.

How new graduate Tessa Machin has handled her first year with The Physio Co
In this episode, new graduate Tessa Machin sits down with Tristan White and Jess Soding to discuss how she is progressing thus far at The Physio Co (TPC). Tessa joined TPC as a community physio in February of this year, having originally found out about the company at the APA Job Show. She says general talk at university around community physio roles is that young grads are thrown into the job without much support, but says her experience at TPC suggests otherwise. According to Tessa, she feels very supported by other TPC physios and that there is a great sense of connection among team members. Tessa says the biggest thing she's experienced in her first year on the job is developing self-confidence in the role. Yes, there are challenges that need to be overcome - things like making time to get her admin tasks done - but this is all part and parcel of becoming an effective community physio. Tessa discusses what she likes about working with elderly clients - specifically building rapport with them, listening to their stories, and being able to help them get results and achieve their meaningful health goals. Karleen tells the story of her client Helen, who has some physical issues but is active on the computer and likes to regularly keep Karleen up-to-date by messaging her. Working as a community physiotherapist with seniors: Interview with TPC physios Maddy Low + Katie Jenkins
In this episode of The Confident Physio, CEO of The Physio Co (TPC), Tristan White, chats with two TPC physios, Maddy Low and Katie Jenkins, about what it's like being a community physiotherapist working day-to-day with Australia's senior population. Maddy is based in Adelaide while Katie is in Sydney. Making a difference in people's lives is a big part of what TPC physios do. That's the external part: working with clients, helping them make small changes which can have a positive impact on their life. Communicating with the families of clients is also an integral part of the role. Maddy and Katie each share their reflections and thoughts on what it's like working with seniors specifically, as well as the community-based working environment more generally. But there's also an internal side to working as a community physio. Being a mobile-only practice, TPC places great emphasis on culture and connection and support for one another. The latter takes in emotional support: being there for each other, checking in to see how colleagues are going day to day. Then there is professional support. This can take the form of chatting about client challenges and issues with peers, plus coaching sessions with senior members of the TPC team.
