Flipping Tables
On this podcast, we’re going to have great conversations. Every week we’re going to dive into the gospels. Learning from Jesus through studying his words, encounters, and the way He walked out his mission. We will discover that there’s probably some tables in our lives that need to be flipped and not just our sake…but for the sake of others….For the sake of the Kingdom mission.

The Family Tree of Jesus: Finding Hope in Our Messy Stories

The Family Tree of Jesus: Finding Hope in Our Messy Stories
Welcome to the table! In this episode, we’re pulling up a chair to explore the family tree of Jesus — and what it reveals about God’s heart for our own broken families. By getting to know the people in Jesus’ genealogy, we discover that there’s nothing in our stories too big for Him to redeem. Jesus understands our grief, our scandals, our trauma, and our mess. He gets it — because His own family line tells a story of grace breaking through generations of pain. Twila joins the conversation as we unpack Matthew’s genealogy, written to prove that Jesus is both the Son of David and the Son of Abraham — the fulfillment of God’s covenant promises. We’ll see how Matthew intentionally includes women, Gentiles, and outsiders in the story of redemption, revealing that the gospel has always been radically inclusive. Introducing study of Matthew: The Way of the Kingdom of Heaven
Welcome back to the table! It’s been a minute since I’ve sat here doing what I love—talking about Jesus, the Table Flipper, and learning His table-flipping ways. In this episode, my co-host Kimberly Daniels joins me as we reflect on the unexpected turns our lives have taken this year. We’re also launching a brand-new study: Matthew—The Way of the Kingdom of Heaven. Together, we’re asking God to teach us the ways of His Kingdom through Matthew’s unique perspective and personality. This episode is all about setting the tone for what’s ahead in our study! Like Matthew, we each have our own “before and after” stories of following Jesus. Matthew went from being an insider, to an outsider, and then was brought back into the family of God—a story that mirrors the redeeming power of the gospel in all of us. Whether you’ve been following Jesus for years, are just getting started, or are simply considering it, you’re invited to join us at the study table. Thanks for listening! Relationship Landmines
Welcome to the table! This is the last episode in the Ephesians series. Amy Crump is back to talk with me about the relationship landmines associated with parenting and work. We do not ignore slavery in this passage either. I also get to talk briefly about the armor of God. Paul brings all of the relationship landmines together by laying out the armor of God in the context of our relationship struggles. We do not have a people problem. We have a real enemy working to wreak havoc in our relationships. This makes complete sense especially in light of how our relationships are to reveal that we are children of God. This is how the world knows who we belong to by the way we love one another. Ouch! Let’s make the most of our witness. Thanks for listening. Share this episode with a friend. The "S" Word
Welcome to the table! My conversation with Amy Crump covers a lot of ground. We had a long set up of discussing our formative years growing up in the Church era where we learned a number of erroneous teachings on the subject of submission. Add in a word study, a trip back to Genesis, and you end up with a long on ramp to Ephesians 5. Instead of editing this episode down, we’re inviting you to spend some extra time with us at the table. This might be a good episode to listen to while you’re being active. I love to listen to long podcast episodes when I’m cooking, doing household work, or excercising. We’re sticking with the Message translation for Ephesians 5. I continue to recommend spending 20 minutes reading all of Ephesians to take in the entire letter as it was intended. Passover Part 2
Welcome back to the table for part two of a conversation Twila and I had about Passover in season one. Holy week is such an important week of remembrance each and every year. This week was important for the Jews to remember how God delivered them from Egyptian slavery. For us followers of Jesus, this week is when we remember the high cost of what our sin cost Jesus. Against the backdrop of Passover, Jesus rolled out the New Covenant. This year during this season of lent, I have been richly blessed in my relationship with Jesus, who you know, I call the Table Flipper. This week, I am drawing near to him, while planning one of the best meals of the year. The Easter lunch where I gather around a table with my family to celebrate the resurrection of our table flipping King. Oh Death, where is your sting? Thank you Jesus for flipping the table on death, and setting us free from death claim on us. Fear not friends, Jesus has silenced death. Read the Bible in 90 days! Welcome to the table! In honor of Holy week, I'm re-releasing two episodes from season 1. We were in a series on Mark. Watch for part 2 to be released later this week. I hope you have a wonderful Easter! This is part one of a two part episode about the last supper. I talk about my religious experiences of celebrating the Passover and the Days of Unleavened Bread instead of Easter. Twila and I are both seeking to learn more about the Jewish holidays. We are learning and growing in understanding. I'm sure we've barely only begun to scratch the surface. Join us as we dig into learning about Jesus in a more Jewish context. Please extend us grace as we probably fumble some of the details. Hopefully we will inspire you to dig in more to discover more richness and beauty in the Jewish Feasts. A Life Worthy of the Calling
Welcome to the table! In this episode Kimberly joins me at our table to discuss what it means to live a life worthy of the gospel. Well, at least our understanding of what it means. This is a progressive work in our lives. Maturing in Christ, growing up in our salvation and becoming like Jesus and doing as Jesus did is the heart of Ephesians 4. The Gospel is table flipping! We don’t walk worthy so that God will love us, but because He does love us. It is motivated out of gratitude, not out of a desire to earn merit. Our text is . We are using the Message translation. NIV 4:1 As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. Additional references: John 10:10, Luke 14:25-27. Welcome to the table! I loved having this conversation with Kimberly. I believe you will also love hearing from her. Many of the reasons I love Kimberly simply shine throughout this episode. She is bold and transparent about who she is now and who she is becoming. We talked about last year's highlights, lessons, and much more. I bless God for her life! In February we’re going to be shaping our conversations around Ephesians. One of the things I love about Ephesians is how Paul’s depth and brilliance really shine in his letter to the Church at Ephesus. Paul was an intellectual giant and he really let’s loose in this letter. So to bring Ephesians into a less familiar and simpler text we’re going to use The Message version of the Bible. I want to invite you to follow along with us using your favorite Bible app to inhale a fresh breath of God’s Word. Thanks for joining us! In 2007 Jeanne was convicted to leave the trappings of a lucrative career as an internet consultant to establish one of the first long term restorative care programs in the Mid-Atlantic for victims of domestic sex trafficking. Her story is compelling. She brings a depth of insight into this very complex atrocity happening all around us. Welcome to the table! We’re wrapping up the series on The Church at Philippi. I tried to bring some new perspectives on Philippians to the table. This book is a crowd favorite among followers of Jesus or as we call Him, the Table Flipper. I have needed every word of this letter. Philippians 4 is pretty well known around the Church. We love this chapter which we know best starting at verse 4. I have probably talked more about verses 1-3 more than you’ve ever heard over the last 8 episodes. I believe these verses are the backdrop for the entire letter. I don’t know many people who are thankful for conflicts. I for one am thankful for Euodia and Syntyche. Thanks ladies for inspiring Paul to write this letter. Philippians 4 Acts 15:36-41, 16:1-40 Ephesians 6:18-20 Isaiah 9:6 This is the final episode of season 2. Welcome to the table! This episode has Twila and I gathering around Philippians 3. Some call this chapter the most loved chapter in the letter. I truly fell in love with Paul’s letter to the Church at Philippi in this chapter. However, the most searched verses in Philippians are ones from chapter four. When I think of one verse that has had the biggest impact on my relationship with Jesus, hand’s down it’s Philippians 3:10. Thanks to Beth Moore! Beth taught this verse from the Amplified version many years ago at a conference in Cincinnati. This verse changed the way I prayed. Paul’s aim became my aim. Recently, I have been in circumstances that have caused me to dig deep into my joy within reservoir. It was God’s perfect timing for me to sit at the table with my good friend and God’s good Word. Humble Example
Welcome to the table! In the fifth episode in our study of Philippians we take on Paul’s exhortation to seek unity and apply humility to all of our relationships. Easier said than done! It seems everywhere we turn there’s a headline or a conversation about how divided we are as a nation. The Church isn’t doing much better. Kimberly and I try to stay in our lane. We talk about our struggles with self and with pride. Honestly, our side is pretty bleak until we read the beautiful verses about the example of Christ. The Church at Philippi’s lack of unity led to this incredible theological statement about Christ. This is pretty deep water for me to try to teach on so I mostly bring us to the edge of it to behold Christ’s greatness and triumph. I may not be able to grasp the depth of this well but it makes my heart sing! These verses will surely be your bright spot for this episode. Welcome to the table! This is the fourth episode in our series on Philippians. Kimberly joined me for the second half of chapter 1. We tried to get into the anxious feelings the Church at Philippi was having listening to the letter. All they wanted to know was how Paul was doing. What a relief for them to find out that in spite all of that had happened to Paul in the five years since they had seen him, Pau was still advancing the gospel in spite of his chains. A frosty welcome from the church in Rome or being chained to a guard couldn’t sideline Paul from sharing Christ with whoever was in front of him. Are we doing the same? Captivating Joy
Welcome to the table! We’re continuing to work our way through Acts 16. We’re looking at the events which took place surrounding the beginning of the Church at Philippi. God worked through missteps, opposition, and persecution to bring an entire household to faith in Christ. In Acts 16 we meet an unnamed jailer who became another one of the living stones being built into the framework of the Church at Philippi. The jailer and his household crossed over from darkness to light through listening to Paul and Silas rejoice in the night. Their joy gave birth to more joy. Kimberly joined me for discussion around all of these events. In our conversation we tackle some hard things like being annoyed with people who need our compassion. This passage also contains examples of human trafficking and antisemitism. You know we don’t avoid the hard topics at the table. In episode 39 we tackled the polarizing topic of immigration. Living Stones in Philippi
Welcome to the table! We're kicking off our study of Philippians by going back to the beginning of their story. Study of Philippians: The house church at Philippi and beyond with the women who led there. We’re starting in Acts 16. This is part one in our getting to know the individuals who became the living stones who formed the church at Philippi. My daughter Lydia is named after the influential woman Paul met at a prayer gathering. She became Paul’s first convert to Christianity in Europe. It seemed fitting to have my daughter join me as we talk about her namesake. I hope you enjoy this episode and that you will join us for the next few weeks as we get to know the Church at Philippi. Then as we go through Paul's letter to this small but mighty church. Join our Flourish community at our three tables: Table 1 is the podcast. New episodes release on Tuesday. Table 2 is the lesson that corresponds to the podcast lesson. This is where we get to dig a little deeper. These lessons can be expected a few days after the podcast releases. Start With Welcome
Welcome to the table! Friends, this is a very special episode. This conversation has been on my heart for almost a year. We’re talking about one of those subjects Christians try to avoid talking about. It’s one of the hot topics of the election season... immigration. Hang with me! We can have this conversation. You're going to be glad you listened. I invited Bri Stensrud to the table to help us untangle this complicated issue. Bri Stensrud is the Director of Women of Welcome. A nonpartisan advocacy project for immigrants and refugees that helps Christians think about immigration issues from a Biblical perspective rather than a political one. I enjoyed this conversation almost as much as I enjoyed Bri’s book. I learned so much from her book. Follow Women of Welcome on your socials to stay informed. Here are the links for her book and website. : The Journey toward a confident and Compassionate Immigration conversation. Visit the website to learn more and access many wonderful resources. The Women: Romans 16
Welcome to the table! In this episode we turn to Romans 16 to discover what we can learn about Paul and the early Church. Romans is a letter that helps us to know what we believe and why we believe it. Romans is a deep well of church doctrine. Doctrine is a big word that in no way should intimidate us. Doctrine simply means a belief or set of beliefs held and taught by a church etc. Paul sent a woman named Phoebe with this letter to the Church in Rome. This is a pretty big deal. We can learn a lot about Paul and the early church by slowing down and reading this chapter. Hopefully, we uncover enough insights to make you hungry for more. Twila joined me at the table via zoom. This was a podcast first. I want to tell you this because as you listen you will hear a difference in the sound. Seasoned podcast listeners are used to these kinds of recordings. I listen to so many podcasts this doesn’t even phase me anymore. We’re honored to spend time with you and we are thankful for technology that makes it so easy to meet and study. Taking a Double Take
Welcome to the Table! Kimberly joined me for a conversation that was a continuation of our book club discussion from the night before. We are loving our conversations around the Beth Guckenberger’s . I hope this conversation prompts you to get a copy of the book and maybe even start a book club. Kimberly’s son Clark gives book club a five star review. He always wants to come to book club! Beth’s book is super easy to discuss. She has included questions at the end of every chapter. Friends, we need to step away from the and really see people. Do a double take at the needs all around us. One reason we spend a lot of time on screens is we are lonely. Invite someone to the table! The Hebrew word ra’ah means to “see,” but it also means “to respond to a need.” Embedded in it’s definition is the challenge if we don’t do anything about what we are looking at, can we claim to have seen it? Just Keep Singing
Welcome to the Table! I had my original co-hosts, Twila and Kimberly, finally back at the table. Woo-hoo! It was so good to push reset on the podcast with them. Sometimes you need to pause and recalibrate. We discuss in the episode how we are not the same women we were when we started journeying together. The three of us are growing in knowledge and wisdom. We have learned to hold things loosely as we follow the Table Flipper. Kimberly and I have been soundboards for one another for around a decade. 2016 Twila and Julie are not even close to the same women we are now. Those versions of us would not recognize us, but I believe they would grow to like who we’ve become. Warrior is a a much better look than women anchored in fear. Luke 12:32 “Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has been pleased to give you the kingdom.” The women in our Warrior of Eden book club weren’t familiar with the terms. Here’s a pretty simple explanation: . Books mentioned… John Mark Comer Beth Guckenberg : Nijay Gupta Scot McKnight Find out more about Gather25 happening March 1, 2025. Flourishing in Ministry
Welcome to the table! This is our fourth conversation in the water with lemon series. My guest is Charliese Lewis. She brings 30 years of ministry experience to the table. We discuss her calling, ministry, work, health, and even talk about our age. This conversation reminds us God is in all the details of our lives. He knows our days and spaces before one of them comes to into being. I personally like conversations that stretch me. This one gives us a window into a church experience you like me may be less familiar with. Charliese describes growing up in a church where women had few restrictions on what they could do in serving the Lord and His people. Conversations have a way of shaping us. I hope this one will positively shape you and inspire you to spend time at tables with other image bearers of God. Thanks for joining us at the Table! Fall Preview
Welcome to the table! We’re taking a few weeks to prepare for the fall series. So we will not be releasing new episodes for a few weeks. I thought this would be a great opportunity to tell you what we’re working on for the fall series. Here’s a hint: It’s one of Paul’s prison letters. We still have some great conversations coming in the Water With Lemon end of summer series. One that we’re extra excited about! Our next episode will release on September 10th. Need something to listen to this week? I would love for you to check out this episode, “” from The Jewish Road podcast. I thought this was a great episode with some wonderful insights. Legacy of Faith
Welcome to the table! My guest for this third episode in our summer series is Alva Skiles. Alva brought great insights to the table. She has lived a long life faithfully serving God and others. She has been a teacher, a nurse, a missionary, and a pastor just to name a few of the many roles she has filled. She also happens to be Kimberly’s aunt. I loved talking with her. This episode is about a third of the time I spent at the table with Alva. We had a wonderful time talking about her life of teaching and serving. When you finish this episode you might find yourself googling photo’s of Kansas wheat fields. I did! Alva went to seminary at the age of 43. She accepted the call to pastor her first church before she was even finished. Just incredible! Even now that she’s retired, she’s still serving in Bible Study Fellowship and in her local church. She continues to flourish in all she does. You will love Aunt Alva! 2 Timothy 2:24-25 The bond-servant of the Lord must not be quarrelsome, but kind to all, able to teach, patient when wronged, with gentleness correcting those who are in opposition, if God should grant them opportunity to repent. A Restored Life
Welcome to the table! This is the first episode in the summer series "Water with Lemon". Just like a slice of lemon adds a zesty twist to your glass of water, this series aims to bring a fresh perspective to various topics, making your summer days hopefully a bit brighter. At this table, we love bright spots! My guest Renee Flynn was a bright spot for me at an event I attended a few months ago. She was captivating as she shared some of her testimony. Renee talks candidly about her journey from rebellion to restored. A story like hers is a great reminder to not lose heart when loved ones rebel against the Christian faith and walk away from Jesus. We had a great discussion about her new restored life. Enjoy our conversation! to the weekly newsletter to receive corresponding content to each episode. The email will also tell you about upcoming local studies and events. Help us grow our Flipping Tables community! • Take a minute to leave us a rating or review. • Share this episode with a friend.
