Her case, published in the Connecticut Law Journal, is being used as legal precedent. Her live testimony helped pass Jennifers’ Law in Connecticut, the third state in America to expand its legal definition of domestic violence to include “coercive control.” She and her partner, Chris, the male half of Been There Got Out, coach people in high-conflict relationships, divorce, custody battles, and co-parenting hell so they have the chance of the best outcome in family court and beyond. Dr. Joe Kort Psychotherapist Joe Kort, PhD, LMSW, is the clinical director and founder of The Center for Relationship and Sexual Health in Royal Oak, Michigan. He is a board-certified clinical sexologist, author of four books, lecturer and facilitator of therapeutic workshops. Throughout his 36 years of private practice, he successfully has utilized varying therapy modalities to help hundreds of individuals and couples improve their lives and strengthen their relationships. Dr. Kort specializes in marital problems and conflicts; mixed orientation marriages; male sexuality and sexual health concerns; “sex addiction,” out-of-control sexual behaviors; sexual identity issues; childhood sexual abuse; LGBTQIA Affirmative Therapy; and Imago Relationship Therapy. He is trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing), a safe and effective treatment that can help patients who have suffered for years from anxiety, distressing memories, nightmares, insomnia, abuse or other traumatic events. Samantha Fox As a Sexuality Coach, I work with women worldwide who experience a later in life sexual awakening in their attraction to women. I have developed an experiential model that creates a monumental transformation for the women that I work with. This involves unpacking, unlearning, and relearning schemas and narratives that we carry with us due to being born female in a patriarchal society. Jonelle Tunney Jonelle Tunney is currently a licensed professional counselor with River City Psychological Services in downtown Grand Rapids. Jonelle was born as "Jon", a boy at birth, in the late 1960's. She grew up in Cadillac, Michigan and went on to earn teaching and counseling degrees, serving as both a teacher and school counselor for over 20 years. From an early age, Jonelle strongly identified with feeling feminine and womanly inside, but she hid this from the world and even denied it within herself for decades. Meanwhile, she got married and had twins and did her best to be the person she thought the world needed her to be. Shortly before turning 50, around 2018, Jonelle found herself with a loving family and dozens of good friends, with a successful career, and she was almost completely miserable. This began her process of transition, which started with self-acceptance and exploration, included a couple years of group and individual therapy, and culminated in an explosion of personal changes that included divorce, retirement from the school system, selling her home of 20 years, hormone therapy, surgery, and living full-time as a transgender female. It was as if the turbulence within her matched the turbulence around her, including a global pandemic and major political unrest. Today, she finds herself happier and more alive and awake than ever, still great friends with her ex-wife, with almost universal acceptance and support from her family and friends, and engaging with a career as a therapist that she finds incredibly rewarding and meaningful. She works with people of a variety of ages and needs, including treatments for depression, anxiety, and trauma, as well as a particular specialty in supporting those with queer identities and gender-related issues. LCI, which she founded in 2018, offers personal in person therapy and online coaching to lesbian couples by a lesbian couple. Lynda’s parents were Baptist missionaries from Texas, however she was born and raised in Uruguay, South America. She spent her childhood and teen years living in Uruguay much of the time and in Texas some of the time. Dr. Spann has a BA in Psychology from Baylor University. Her MA in Family Studies & PhD Marriage Family Therapy were earned at Texas Tech University. Michelle Coulier Michelle was born and raised in West Michigan and knows the area like the back of her hand. She has been a homeowner since the age of 23 and hopes to help others find the joy in homeownership she has found! She worked in the medical field for over 12 years before transitioning to a natural career in real estate. Paul Schwen Paul Jacob Schwen is an accomplished attorney and divorce mediator. After graduating from high school, Schwen enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. His time in the military instilled in him a deep sense of discipline and a commitment to service that would shape his career for years to come. Much of Schwen's work in the military as an Arabic linguist placed him in situations where he was deescalating problems between local civilians and the military. After leaving the Marines, Schwen attended the University of Utah and the American University Washington College of Law, where he earned his Juris Doctor degree. Candace Lefke Candace Lefke is a Michigan native, currently based in West Michigan with her cat Stu and her two giant dogs. She works as a freelancing Makeup Artist and Stylist for events, photography and commercial work. Having a love for teaching as well, she loves to help queer folx master their own makeup and skincare routines so they can express themselves authentically through body art. She has a passion for the healing arts as well and eventually would love to start coaching other queer people in their healing journeys. Outside of work, Candace loves to be out in the woods, camping or at the beach with friends and family. She also loves to try her hand at anything artistic, and has many projects that she may never finish, but enjoys it anyway.
