EP 40: Emotions & Holding Space for Them
In this episode we talk about emotions, how to hold space and not stuff them down. How honoring our emotions allows them to move through us, and not get stuck within our bodies. We touched on: 1) How often we have been told to ‘quit our crying or I’ll give you something to cry about’ and many of us have learned to stuff our emotions and not feel them. 2) Things that come up that trigger us, are there to teach us a lesson, and can be a mirror for our own healing. It is a gift to lean into it and heal from it. Generally things have nothing to do with the person, but our own things that we get to process through. 3) ‘Weakness’ has been taught or ingrained in us… but we are not ‘weak’ if we share emotion. We are actually so strong when we can process our emotion and hold space for it. 4) Dis-ease is caused by stuck emotion. We talk about different places that emotions get stuck, and what the dis-ease is that is related to that stuck emotion. In this episode we talk about how often in life we hide from things because of our own beliefs about ourselves. And how the light that we see in others, is within us as well… and we need to shine it, and share our gifts with the world. We touched on: 1) How our bodies will physically manifest our beliefs about ourselves if we are not paying attention to them. For example, acne if we fear being seen, or getting sick before travelling if we feel we don’t belong. None of this is conscious thought. 2) When someone sees the light in you, honour it. Shine it. Show it. And do not hide. When fear comes up, listen, but remember that Paradise is on the other side of Fear. And then do it. 3) Trust your inner knowing. If you are a sacral generator by human design for example, trust that gut instinct when you are faced with a decision. Your inner knowing, knows. And again, stop hiding. The world needs your gifts! Choose people who uplift and inspire you to be your best self. Respect your boundaries and support your growth, bring joy to your life, support you through it all, are kind, compassionate, and empathetic, and who encourage you to pursue your passions and dreams. We touched on: 1) Sometimes people who are in your circle are not in your corner, and how we can put on masks, or shift who we are to be around them. How we can modify who we are slightly, to be able to fit in, or not have our opinions be too strong. 2) We encourage you to take a look at the people you are around and see if they are indeed people who are cheering for you, or bring you down. In this episode we talk about our experiences at the Young Living Northern Lights farm, when we harvested, distilled and made our own Northern Lights Black Spruce oil. We are joined by some guests that took part in the harvest with us. We touched on: 1) Young Living’s Seed to Seal process - where every step of the process of making essential oils is set to the absolute highest standards. How Young Living owns farms around the world, and that we were blessed to take part in a harvest for a week, and take part in the entire process. 2) How community is everything. It’s all about the people. How this group of women that went with us, and the men who were there hosting us and teaching us about the processes on the farm and in the distillery, are so special. How the week impacted us, and how we are never the same after it. 3) We each shared some of our biggest takeaways from the week, and what we carry forward with us after it. It was so special! In this episode we talk about how the love, validation and acceptance we often seek, needs to come from within. We need to give ourselves that great big love, first. We touched on: 1) How sometimes a heavy, or hard day or week is the beginning of so much growth. We started the call with pulling a card, and talking about the message, and how oracle cards can be a tool that are sometimes fun to use at the beginning of a journaling session to give some direction. The card Great Big Love was the one we started the call with. 2) How giving ourselves the love and validation and celebration we seek, is so important, because nobody outside of us will ever be able to fill that need for us. How our reticular activating system works, and the power of a poster that was on the wall for over 30 years. How messaging is powerful, and the words that we see around us always can have an impact. 3) We ended the call with a card that Jenna pulled for the collective. It wrapped up what we were talking about, and was a powerful message of trusting that all things are always working for us. In this episode we talk about how important it is to find people that you connect with, and how saying “yes” can be the start of something beautiful We touched on: 1) Finding your people. You may not know where ‘your’ people will be but saying yes to things when you listen to your heart, and trust it, you might meet a new best friend. 2) Doing things together is powerful. For example, a few friends getting together to make bread, or meal prep together. We have all spent so much time apart these past few years, that getting together with like minded people can bring so much Joy into your life. 3) You are most like the 5 people you surround yourself with. Connect with people who you admire. Or that inspire you. People come into, and leave our lives all in perfect timing. As you grow, you will meet new people. And saying ‘yes’ can bring so much goodness into your lives. A challenge: Connect more with people. Let them in. In this episode we talk about how when we know better, we can do better, in all areas of life. Choosing things that we think are ‘natural’ or better for our families, can take intentional effort to find sometimes. We touched on: 1) ‘Greenwashing’ is a marketing term that is used to make people feel like the products they are buying are better or more natural, for us. 2) We trust what is on the shelves, and believe that if it’s on the shelves, why would it harm us? As women for example, we often put hundreds of different toxins on their bodies before breakfast, and what happens, is over time, we can experience toxic body burden. It’s not a matter of if, but when. Our bodies can only detox so much, and there are so many harmful chemicals in our products. 3) Our bodies are so smart, and wise and give us signs when they are out of alignment. This might look like skin conditions, acne, allergies, or any number of things. We need to listen more closely to our bodies. We talk about how there is no shame in not knowing what is in our products, but we simply share to bring awareness. In this episode we talk about how those little nudges and signs are for us. That learning to trust ourselves is one of the most powerful things we can do, and we can teach our children We touched on: 1) If you think about Spotify, and how it can create the most incredible playlist for you based on your listening habits… your mind is the same. Whatever you are focusing on, you are going to get more of. So if the playlist running in your mind is not positive, you are going to see more of that, and vice versa. The universe always gives us what we are focusing on. Good and bad. 2) The universal laws. The law of one-ness. We are all connected in so many different ways. There’s a reason that person, or thought popped into your mind. 3) We second guess these little nudges, and make stories about why we shouldn’t. We are programmed and conditioned to second guess ourselves. And so we doubt, and question ourselves. Learning to trust ourselves is important, and a skill we can practice often. Ep 28: Structure and Flow
In this episode we talk about how structure and flexibility (or flow) are connected even though they feel opposite. Let things go, surrender and let go of control how the ‘how’ things are going to happen. We touched on: 1) Sometimes we need structure in our lives, but the idea of always being structured and scheduled, can make us feel like we aren’t ‘doing enough’ if we rest. 2) Flow is important. But, forcing things to happen in ‘our’ timeline, can often feel like a struggle, and when we try to control the outcome it can make it harder than if we just allow things to flow with us. We need to trust the process, and that things are all happening in perfect timing, and for us. 3) When we get into flow, things can feel natural, and easy as we are doing them. When we are distracted, it can take a long time to get back into flow. You can do simple things like putting your phone on do not disturb, or putting it on a timelapse, can help focus in specific time blocks to get into flow. 4) Sometimes structure and flow can go together, when we have a loose structure of time, and then able to flow within that gentle structure. There are some times that we do have structure - such as scheduled appointments, or events. But when we let go of controlling the final outcome, and the pressure that we put on ourselves, things can feel better, and happen easier. In this episode we discuss how self sabotage is our ego protecting us from a situation where we have been hurt in the past, and how we can look at those behaviours through a different lens, to gain clarity. We touched on: 1) How our brain doesn’t know the difference between emotional and physical pain, and it tries to protect us from both. 2) Looking at our self sabotaging behaviours not through a lens of guilt and shame and “what’s wrong with you - why can’t you just get this done?” But instead through a lens of curiosity and compassion and understanding what your brain is trying to protect you from. 3) How our enneagram can play a role in, and help us understand some of our core fears. In this episode we talk about how you can shift your mindset from believing that outside sources can control your mood and emotions, to truly understanding that nobody has the power to ‘make’ you feel anything, but you. We touched on: 1) People and situations are triggers that bring about emotion, but we feel it. That person or situation does not ‘make’ us feel it. When we believe that our emotions are from outside of us, we can feel like a victim. 2) We talked about how we can use this tool and knowledge with our children. How practicing choosing how you want to feel, is a muscle that needs developing. 3) How it’s important to feel your emotions, but not get stuck in them, believing that they are caused by anyone outside of you. That situation is a gift for you to grow and learn from, and after you’ve processed it, then you can choose to feel differently about it. 4) We also touched briefly on burn letters, and how that can help you process through subconscious thoughts and emotions that you may not be aware of. How anytime is a good time to start creating new habits. It does not have to be the beginning of a week or of a year. Anytime is a good time.We touched on:1) Celebrating each day when we do anything that moves the needle towards the person that you want to be. Don’t just wait until you get to the goal, celebrate all along the way. Building habits that stick takes time! But celebrate along the way. 2) Intentional challenges can help you create habits. Something like 75 hard allows you to track your progress and see yourself making changes. Being intentional with your time, teaches you to make promises to yourself and stick to them. 3) Top tips: 1 - Stack your Habits - do the new thing alongside something that is already a habit for you. 2. Track your habits - Use an app, or an old fashioned piece of paper. In this episode we talk about how we are always supported, and that there are signs and symbols everywhere around us, but that we need to be aware and keep our eyes open and trust that all things are happening for us.We touched on:1) We do not have to figure out how or why we see symbols, we just need to trust that when we have that feeling that it’s a sign, that it is. Trust it! Awareness is key! 2) Signs and wisdom can come to us in things we see, or even in random posts, animals, or lyrics in songs. Sometimes songs appear, and if we are listening, we can hear the wisdom that is there for us. And how you can write down ‘Evidence of your alignment’ when things happen, or there’s a sign, or when things feel like incredible synchronicities… you will see how often you create your reality. There’s evidence of it. Write your own ‘evidence’ in a note in your phone. Your Reticular Activating System is powerful. 3) We touched briefly about trusting your body, and how to use muscle testing. Jenna gives an example of how to do it, and where she’s used it in her life.4) When we lean in and fully listen to our bodies, and listen to the ‘signs’ our bodies are giving us, then we can feel better. Our bodies, our gut, our inner knowing… it’s always talking to us. Trust it! Our bodies know what they need, we need to trust and listen to them. The signs are there. We touched on:1) Recognize when you can celebrate the little things, you will feel successful. You intentionally set yourself up for success. Celebrate folding the laundry when it’s still warm. And everything, but not just the massive things in your life. 2) Jenna shares a story about something that happened with one of her cows last year, and how she delivered a backwards calf, all by herself… and that this year, that same cow is expecting again! 3) Being alive is something to celebrate! When we get good at celebrating the little wins, then the bigger things feel that much bigger and more special! You are worth celebrating the little things!4) Recognizing when you have a hard time celebrating the little things, is a catalyst to you starting to do it! Celebrate every single box you check off on the to-do list! 5) We are here to learn from our children, and teach them how to trust themselves.
