The Rest Is Plastics Episode 20 - Direct Infrared Thermography in DIEP flap planning
Welcome to our first video episode! In this episode with spoke with Dr Hummelink and Dr Meier about their device to map perforators on the skin in DIEP flap surgery. Drs. Eva Meier Drs. Eva Meier is a medical doctor (MD) and PhD candidate and Resident in Plastic Surgery at the Radboud University Medical Center in the Netherlands. Currently, her PhD research focuses on the application of Projected Augmented Reality for preoperative perforator mapping in free flap surgery, aiming to enhance surgical precision and improve preoperative flap planning. This work has recently led to the publication of three articles, exploring the application of Projected Augmented Reality in DIEP, ALT and PAP flap reconstructions. Dr. Stefan Hummelink Dr. Stefan Hummelink is a technical physician specialist at Radboud University Medical Center, focused on breast reconstruction and lymphedema, and is head of research and innovation of the Plastic Surgery department. He is the inventor of the patented Anatomy Projector, an augmented-reality projection system that helps surgeons visualize blood vessels, nerves, and lymph nodes directly on the patient’s body. His research focuses on advancing reconstructive and microsurgery, with a strong emphasis on medical technical innovation, with approximately 70 academic publications to his name. Alongside his clinical and scientific work, he is co-founder and CTO/CMO of Exolumen, the startup bringing this innovation into operating rooms worldwide.
