1163 In His Presence The busyness that you accept and attract can be a greater distraction to what you really need. Be still in His presence; God's presence. Filling their lives with busyness, claiming they are doing it for all the right reasons. Some are perfectly fine reasons. Yet most are ones to hide from what you're really needing in your life. God has been prompting me since our arrival down south that changes are on the horizon. And with changes, much is expected. Change is scary. So all the more reason to stay stuck where you are. "Do what you know, not what is unknown." But how does that serve you? It doesn't. And at the same time, it crushes your spirit little by little. Why are you continuing to fill up your day with what is not worthy of your attention? Make time to hear God. The K.I.S.S. ~ Be still in His presence! Yet you probably think you should have all the answers by now. Well if we had all the answers, there would be no divorces, no arguments, and no break-ups. We would know exactly what to do without even being in a relationship. How funny life works though.We learn from experiences. And our experiences shape our expectations. When we take our expectations into our marriage, we forget there is another person. Because aren't their expectations the same as ours? If you've ever had a disagreement, you know that's not true! Love is a lifetime investment. An investment is an act of devoting time, effort, or energy to a particular undertaking with the expectation of a worthwhile result. Most of us are looking for the worthwhile result. What's lacking is the true investment for love. Love is an verb. It requires action. Action = Action It takes action to get action! 1161 You Cannot Be Serious Hanging out with the children only to hear, "Oh crap! You cannot be serious!" The explicits of the unknown. How can one thing be something else? He took an egg out of the refrigerator with the hopes of it being a hardboiled egg. Little did he know. The tap seemed somewhat soft. The shell dented more than usual. One last crack and ... "Oh crap! OH CRAP!!!", he screams! The egg now dripping all over himself. I couldn't help but giggle. Serves him right. AND better yet, he learned a life skill that came from real life. As much as we try to give everything to our children and make sure they have the best of what we didn't have, some life skills have to be experienced. The ooey gooey mess will remind G-man that he better double check before he assumes something. Our children need us to let them grow up and learn through experiences. "Experiences put the 'real' in life." ~ Kristianne Wargo This upset mama gets tired of all those parents handing life to their children on a silver platter. We learn from doing and experiencing. Sometimes pain has to be felt to be remembered. Sometimes failure has to happen in order for success to be appreciated. Sometimes rejection has to be heard for commitment to be understood. Sometimes a heart has to be broken in order for God to work a miracle. The K.I.S.S. ~ Learn through experiences. Train up! Let your children learn through experiences. And if that means they fall down; they fall down. Yes you can be there to teach them. If you want to give your children the best of what you didn't have, let them experience life through their eyes. Groom them to understand tough decisions. Nothing is easy, but a lot of growing up is learning how to make it through this tangled web called life. Love on them with your encouragement. But that doesn't mean you give them everything on a silver platter. 1160 Fierce Faith It's time to refresh. Refresh with fierce faith! A faith so intense that nothing gets in the way; not your failures, not your successes or even your fears. Maybe your feelings got hurt, because of a flip-it comment. Maybe because you had nothing to wear (which honestly, we know that not to be true). The gap in our moments. The space we can't explain why we feel empty, ashamed, disappointed, fearful, and discontent. It just seems to multiply and get bigger. Watch out overwhelm --- Here I come! We fall into these traps. And the only thing to fill-in the gaps is fierce faith. The ultimate and complete trust and confidence in God that nothing is impossible. Whether you're faced with... the loss of a loved one financial struggles a miscarriage a natural disaster separation from your spouse health complications The gap --- what's missing needs to be filled with fierce faith. 1159 Do Calories Count? If you are wanting to get healthy or lose weight, do calories count? The answer no one wants to hear; yes and no! Desire to be supported and encourage by other like-minded women? Join us at . http://facebook.com/groups/thewomenofimpact Yes calories count. And no, calories do not count. It all depends on you. Your lifestyle. What you are eating. How you are expending and using the energy. The way your fuel your lifestyle, the activities throughout the day, and your make-up (genetics, hormones, metabolism) all has an impact on how your calories are used. Being precise, one dietary calorie is the amount of energy needed to raise one kilogram of water one degree Celsius. Now that doesn't help us when reading labels and trying to be healthy daily. Our kitchens are not a science laboratory. But you have to understand, that calories are either used as fuel or stored as fat. PERIOD! Calories do not melt away when you don't need them. You ingest them, your body responds by either storing them or using them. You have to understand that calories do count in your life. Instead of asking, "do calories count", ask it this way: How do you eat so calories are working for you, not against you? You don't want to make food the enemy. It's fuel for your body, but it's not all treated equally. So if you want to be healthy.... The K.I.S.S. ~ F.U.E.L. your body with what it needs! If God made it, you can eat it! The portions will vary for each individual. There is not a one size fits all. And let those processed foods go too. Understand, this whole idea of eating so many calories a day is best, really is only based on an average. And most of us do not fit in the average! Proteins, fats, and carbohydrates. You want to have a good source of protein as protein builds muscle. Fats are good for you too. Carbohydrates should come from God's food basket. Hydrate with lots of water. Intentional movement (fitness and exercise). Restoration and relaxation for your mind, body, and spirit. "Don't let calories scare you away from living the life God designed for you. 1158 Spring Forward! There is no time like NOW to spring forward with your dreams, your aspirations, your goals. Nothing is impossible when you plant a seed of greatness daily. That seed can be a smile to a stranger. Holding the door open for one who is weighted down with grocery bags. Opportunities to serve with a giving heart opens doors for you who desires a new start. There are pluses and minuses to trends. A plus.... Some outlast the "trend cycle"; living beyond the viral video rage or the latest hair style. However, what about the minuses? The ones that distract you from your purpose, your calling. Let's take Facebook for example. Facebook started out as a way to connect with students on campus and eventually expanded to the world. When was the last time you actually spoke to a friend instead of messaging them? The plus is that we can meet people around the world and collaborate, get to know them. The minus is that we are losing the art of conversation; therefore, losing the art of storytelling. What's trending in your life that is adding to your purpose and passion, creating your extraordinary life? You need to breakdown what's trending so you know how to declutter the trends in your life. It could be health, fitness, business, marriage, finances, daily routine, etc. Your goal is to let simplicity create abundance in your life. 1155 A Viral Love Going viral seems to be the "in" thing. What would happen if you had a viral love? A love that lasts a lifetime. A love that conquers all. A love that speaks louder than words. When all has passed, what will they have to show for it? A video with the number of views. Comments from strangers that mean nothing to their love as a couple. And how long does that love last? Is it fleeting like the viral video? What happens when reality strikes? Who is going to work it out? The millions who saw their video. Your love story isn't destined by a viral video. However, love can be viral love. A love that is circulated rapidly for all to see. Everywhere you go, the love is felt. The energy is indescribable. It's the love that fits just like peanut butter and jelly (and maybe some bananas). If we paid attention to our marriage and relationship just as we watch so intently to the viral videos in our social media feeds, then we can have a viral love. This viral love takes work. And we have to understand where it comes from. You've experienced it. Think back to dating. You laughed at many things your sweetheart said and did, even if it wasn't funny. There were lots of giggles and teasing showing affection through laughter. BUT.... Life happens. You become relaxed in your relationship letting all the good AND the bad hang out. 1154 Raising Everyday Heroes Growing up is tough no matter your age. The expectations for the parent and the child are steep and risky. Raising everyday heroes can be a blessing and a curse. 1151 Love Courageously With the day bright or the day too long, love courageously. A smile can change the world, but it must be given. "Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all strength. The second is this: Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no commandment greater than these." ~ Matthew 12:30-31 God stretches us further. Love your neighbor as yourself. We are called to be ALL IN; not when we have time, not when it's convenient. It's ALL IN ALL the time. That's how God loves you. I was reminded of this yesterday with our repair gentlemen. The stories of their life, genuinely listening to them. 1148 It's Not My Fault! Imagine when you stood there, arms crossed, thinking (or even yelling),"It's not my fault!". Where does that get you in marriage, a union where two are to be one? This needs to be said very blunt. Too many of us are living life in the "I'm right, you're wrong" world. I understand the desire to want to be right. But ask yourself this tough question, how is it serving you? Are you really getting what you want by always being right? You know you are not! You're probably more wrong than you are right. Welcome to the REAL world. What happens is that we build up walls and that becomes our focus. We play defensive and let the heart of our loved one slowly be broken. Sometimes we do it not meaning to. Other times we jab, twist, and turn to make the pain even greater. The person suffering more is you! When you choose to be assertive, advocating only for you; your thoughts, your values, YOUR way, you are telling your partner --- You DON'T matter! You're worthless!! But the underlying whisper of truth is where you are hurting yourself more. You shut out the one who wants to do life with you only TO. BE. RIGHT. "A person who never made a mistake never tried anything new." ~ Albert Einstein You're gonna make mistakes. You're not going to do everything right. That sounds harsh. But it's reality. Life doesn't guarantee anything. The effort to control, so results are only good, fall short. No matter what corner you turn, you will fall before you rise higher. But recently, he found out his grade in Science had dropped due to a test. He sent me a text. ---- "Will I be OK? I was so confident, but now look, I'm at a B!" Some would be delighted to have a B in Science. However, not my G-man. Life is a compilation of tests. Some we pass; others we fail. When you're down and out, how can you climb higher? The K.I.S.S. ~ Live beyond the grade! Here's the sticker shock. --- You're not going to be perfect. You're not going to get everything right. You're not going to accomplish every goal you set. Fall with grace. It's not the end of the world. It may feel like it in the moment. Reality check --- God's got you! It's not the end of the world unless you make it that. Expand your horizon. Look beyond the fall. There's so much more to life than the fall you just took. Soar higher. This is where you dust yourself off and pursue your next step. 1145 What is a Workout Worth? It's so easy to get unhealthy, make choices that you regret later. What is a workout worth? We give it away with excuses, busyness, someone else's timetable, and a perspective that is limiting. This is a reality that will hit when you go to the doctor's appointment to learn of your health decline, when you are rushed to the ER for shortness of breath, or when you can't keep up with your grandchild. what is a workout worth? It's invaluable. Priceless. It gives you health, vitality. It keeps you moving. I have been putting off getting back in the groove of workouts. This cross country move slowed me down as to my schedule --- I got off of it. The habit melted away. Now that I have moved in (still living in boxes), that's where I stay. I made my move my excuse. I gotta tell ya --- I don't like working out. It takes me away from many other goals and thing I like to do. What is a workout worth? (A question that has been haunting me the last few weeks.) 1144 Everything Has Beauty "Everything has beauty, but not everyone can see." ~ by Confucius. Do you see all that's good in your life, or are you clinging to all that's bad? The time where all is good and beautiful is hard to come by. The days are long, and the nights are short. No time for the weary. Desire to be supported and encourage by other like-minded women? Join us at . http://facebook.com/groups/thewomenofimpact Therefore, why not cling to what seems natural; all the bad and ugly. It's easy and takes little effort. You aren't disappointed in your day, because you have already hit the bottom. No need to get back up; it's easier to stay down. You are worthy of much more. Even when the days are long, and the nights are short. There is a time for everything. Everything has beauty. But what do you see? A Time for Everything (Ecclesiastes 3:1-8) There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens: 2 a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot, 3 a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build, 4 a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance, 5 a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them, a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing, 6 a time to search and a time to give up, a time to keep and a time to throw away, 7 a time to tear and a time to mend, a time to be silent and a time to speak, 8 a time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace. For everything that is bad, there is good. The K.I.S.S. ~ Open your eyes and see the beauty! The bountiful blessings that are a blink ahead. You can find them when you allow your heart to greet the day. It's not about what you create, but what God creates in you. And even your falls, they can be beautiful. If you really want to see that everything has beauty, look in your heart. Proverbs 3:5-6 5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; 6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths. 1143 How to Stop Breaking Promises Failures. Successes. One you want to minimize, the other maximize. In order to achieve that, you must learn how to stop breaking promises with yourself. Anytime you set yourself up with an escape route to the other side where you don't have to work as hard, when you don't have to make many changes, and when it doesn't require extra time. Growing up, my mom and dad were very persistent when it came to keeping promises. They saw promises the way God kept His promises, both in the Bible and to them. When they made a promise, it would take a life-changing event for them to break the promise. Today, I see too many ways out to breaking promises. It's easy. The number one --- I'm too busy! We commit. Then we run away with the excuse --- I'm so sorry. I didn't realize how busy I was. I hope you don't mind. Words have power. They give and they take away. When our mindset begins to adopt the easy way out, or where failure is less likely, that's the direction we gravitate towards. It's magnetic. You can think of breaking promises alluring and charming. Strange? Yes. True? Yes. Anything we can do to not get hurt more, that's where we go. It's a protection mechanism. However, if you desire to be in a different place, making different decisions to change your life, you have to figure out how to stop breaking promises to yourself. And if that's your goal to stop breaking promises, then stop the BUTs. The K.I.S.S. ~ Stop the BUTs! The word "but" in the english language give you a way out. I want to lose weight, BUT I don't know if I can. I want to start a business, BUT I don't have the time or the money. I want to have a better marriage, BUT I don't have the energy to work on it. I want to get out of debt, BUT.... I want to go back to school, BUT.... You want to stop breaking promises --- stop the BUTs! In order to stop the BUTs: Know the INs and OUTs of your BUTs. Know how may BUTs you use in your day. How often are you using BUTs. Is there a pattern to your BUTs? Alert yourself to how you're using them with others. Be aware how you use it with others (i.e., your hubby, your child, etc.). Thank you for helping me, but I wish we could have done more. The dress looks nice on you, but this one might be better. 1141 Winning Isn't Everything "Winning isn't everything, it's the only thing." But not in marriage. As a sports lover, I can most certainly understand how Coach Sanders, a UCLA football coach, would want to encourage his players to win. It's more about sharing and compromising. Loving when it's easy; and more importantly, loving when you don't want to. Now this idea of winning, always being right, is something that comes easy for all of us. Call it human nature. Who doesn't want to win? Who doesn't want to be right? I know I do. Just yesterday, I heard myself saying multiple times throughout the day (like it was my theme of the day) --- Why do you always have to be right? How do you think that opened up the conversation? It did not! In fact, those comments only puts your spouse on the defensive. And anyone on defense is going to come back fighting. Plus, as the end of the day draws to a close, it only gets worse. We complain that we are not hearing from God. but at what point in your day have you quieted yourself to hear Him? Softly and tenderly. God doesn't always come in a burning bush or lightning strikes. He is gently waiting for us to be still; quieting the noise of the world. The K.I.S.S. ~ Softly and tenderly Jesus is calling! We went on a trip this weekend. More like a 48 hours whirlwind adventure. We were off to see my daughter's boyfriend for Family Day at the Helicopter Pilot Training in Alabama. What an honor to go and celebrate Craig in his accomplishments. When we returned home, I am sad to report no elves or gnomes unpacked all the boxes. But what God did instead was much better. He reminded me how magnificent He is and how He is always there --- whether home as a hotel room, home as we travel in a car, home where we live out each and every day. Softly and tenderly Jesus is calling. He wants to meet you this moment! Not 2 weeks from now when your calendar opens up. Softly and tenderly Jesus is calling. He is always waiting on you.
