1761 Sweet Dreams are Made of This The quality of your day depends on the quality of your sleep. You deserve rest to propel your day forward. Sweet dreams are made of this. It's not about jumping into bed and closing your eyes with the hope that the day will melt away. Your mind and body deserve the best rest you can provide. Desire to be supported and encourage by other like-minded women? Join us at . In our society, we sleep 20% less than we did 100 years ago. "Twenty-seven percent of people in a of 4,023 U.S. adults said they had trouble falling asleep or staying asleep most nights, and 68 percent—or an estimated 164 million Americans—struggled with sleep at least once a week." There is no doubt that sleep is an issue not just for children, but more so for adults. And with this sleep problem comes the desire to fix it. Americans spent over $41 billion on sleep aids and remedies in 2015. It's expected to climb to $52 billion in 2020. Now you know that 2020 is around the corner. With Daylight Savings Time ending, there are still sleep problems. We can blame the clocks, we can blame the sun. Or we can take matters into our own hands. Sweet dreams are made of this. It is said that the "sweet spot" for sleeping is 8 hours. The first four hours of your sleep is your physical repair. The second four hours of sleep is your cognitive repair where you process all of your emotions and experiences in your day. What does this mean? Your body and mind need to REpair, REjuvenate, and REcharge itself; deep rest for your muscle and mind recovery. Now you can choose to get 3-4 hours of sleep. But what are you doing for your mind? Nothing! You are not giving yourself adequate rest to repair, rejuvenate, and recharge itself. When I only got 3-4 hours of sleep, looking back, I can see how my body was fine, but my mind was limited. Your cells need time to REpair, REjuvenate, and REcharge. They need time to wash away the messy middle of your day. S.T.E.P. in and REcode your sleep routine! The K.I.S.S. ~ S.T.E.P. in and REcode your sleep routine! Just as children appreciate and thrive on a bedtime routine, so do we as adults. The quality of your day depends on the quality of your sleep. So S.T.E.P. in and REcode your sleep routine. Sweet dreams are made of this. Snack one hour before bed: Half of banana rolled in 1/8 tsp of Pink Himalayan salt with 7-10 raw cashews. You can substitute macadamia nuts or 2 oz of raw cheese. This is a wonderful nighttime snack for low serotonin, including hot flashes and depression. Turn off technology and turn down the lights, salt lights. Train your body to know that the day is coming to an end. Activity is slowing. Slow your outside stimulation. Elevate your core temperature. Rub sesame oil on your feet and put socks on. This begins to calm your system and support your thyroid function. This is Ayurvedic from the Hindu system of medicine which has been practiced for 5,000 years. Presence with gratitude; reflect and write your blessings in your day. Think positive and pleasurable experiences. We repeat what we don't repair. You don't want to repeat what doesn't serve you. Since your tomorrow starts today, that means your night starts your day. Give yourself permission to relax and reclaim your day by recoding your sleep routine. "Train for life. 1760 Peace Over Perfection Now that November has fallen, the hustle and bustle is upon us. Don't hang yourself up trying to overdo and outperform. Peace over perfection. The storms that surround your every day can leave you feeling breathless and winded; mind spinning, heart pounding. Desire to be supported and encourage by other like-minded women? Join us at . Is that getting you where you want to go faster? Most of the time, it slows us down. It holds our head to the fire and our heart to the freezer. Chasing chaos is not worth your energy. It's not worth your life. The main thing.... Be present. Be incredible. Be YOU!!! Comparison buries your promises. Stop looking side to side. Comparison destroys your dreams. It wrecks your marriage. Comparison, one part of perfection. Expectations limit your abilities. You draw a line in the sand as to your gifts, talents, and abilities. If you at all feel "less than", you pull back, hide for a moment knowing that you can't live up to the expectations. Expectations, one part of perfection. Performance happens every day. You roll out of bed knowing that you must meet or exceed those you compare yourself with and the expectations set by you and others. You learn to dance in the moment just to survive. Performance, one part of perfection. But how do all of these parts propel you forward? How do they get you closer to your goals and dreams? Take a breath and you will see, perfection is not for you and me. The K.I.S.S. ~ Choose peace over perfection! It's not about doing everything right and knowing it all. Your journey is yours to walk. 1758 Where Are You, God? There are good moments in life. There are bad moments in life. Yet you question. Where are You, God? Where are you when I expect You to be there? Do You hear my prayers? Are you listening? Desire to be supported and encourage by other like-minded women? Join us at . Our expectations for God limits what we see with our own eyes. We are looking for Him in all the wrong places. Why? Because if you are looking only for what you want, you won't find what you can't see. And if you are only looking only for what you want, you won't find what you need. You can get lost in your own wilderness; the mess that consumes your every thought, all your strength, and strategic actions. If you rely on what you think, you will miss God. The appearance of God being silence is our cue to pay close attention. God is always working on your behalf. "So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand." ~ Isaiah 41:10 The K.I.S.S. ~ Where are You, God? REFLECTION: If you could audibly hear Him, what would you want Him to say? Be cautious in putting words into God's mouth. Instead of focusing on what you would want to hear, ask God, "What are You telling me?" Don't let fear overcome God's promises to you. You might be in a situation where you feel like God has abandoned you or left you to hang out with the wolves. This feeling is real! But it must not consume your perspectives of God. Expect the unexpected. When you put boundaries on God, you are limiting the blessings you see from Him. The wilderness can be lonely and scary; a never-ending journey with no resolve. Be strong and courageous. God never leaves you nor forsakes you. He is with you always. (Deut 31:6) Now you must be real and honest. Are you debating today whether God is with you? Challenge: This week be watchful. Look for God not just where you want to see Him, but where He is moving on your behalf. "It's not just where the light is. 1757 Break Up to Break Out In marriage, we have a tendency to hold on to anger and frustration. Break up to break out! The emotional baggage that plagues your heart becomes a disservice in your marriage. Desire to be supported and encourage by other like-minded women? Join us at . You can continue to fight to get your way. Or you can look at your situation with a different set of lenses. What are you doing to add fuel to the fire with your actions? Is it the look you give in the morning? Is it your tone of voice? Is it your loud obnoxious comment? These types of reactions can become toxic in your marriage. It builds barriers instead of bridging the gaps. The goal of your marriage is to find common ground. The goal of your marriage is working together. The goal of your marriage is not about right or wrong, but unity as one. But when we don't get our way, we can throw temper tantrums. It's like we're two-years-old again. You want to be able to infuse hope into your marriage. You want to work with the man you said "I do" to. You can't let your anger and pride rule your marriage. You gotta break up to break out! The K.I.S.S. ~ Break up to break out! Break up with your selfish attitude and emotions that jail your love so you can break out the hope in your marriage. It's all about lifting each other up. Respond instead of react. We are so quick to judge. Listen to the other side of the story. Understand where your spouse is coming from. Be open to what you don't know. In other words, get to know the position your spouse is taking. Forgive to let go. You are not perfect and neither is your spouse. There must be some give and take in your marriage. Forgive so you can move on in your marriage. If you keep track of the hurts and pain caused, you will never be able to love without conditions. Lead with love. If you love only to get what you want, that is not a relationship living as one. Love is sacrificing for one another. Your vows did not say this marriage was to only support your wishes and desires. Treat your spouse with a tender heart and lead with love. You are not perfect. But life is better side-by-side. Treat each other with love and joy. Take action for the change in marriage. 1756 Are You Living Anonymously? How confident is your child? There are so many opportunities and so many distractions. Because growing up today is hard, are you living anonymously? Some of us would covet the idea to run and hide. Who wants the attention anyway, except those social media extroverts. Desire to be supported and encourage by other like-minded women? Join us at . With our world so connected with technology, our children have no space to create and explore, expanding their own imagination and knowledge. There's a battle to find time on the calendar to "chill out". However, what I have noticed as technology has advanced and an overabundance of activities have ruled the "must do" to get ahead, our children are falling further behind. Rest is not a priority. Late nights are the norm. Tests and grades become the focus; scoring higher is always better. But as the week and months progress, the frustration and tiredness sets in. And then confidence begins to dwindle. There is so much stimulation that the priorities get lost. Then the confusion begins. Am I good enough? I did it all before. Why can't I get it all done now? What do I really want? Where can I go and hide? Who am I? All I want to do is quit. When I say this to myself, I feel so empty. When my child says it, my heart is torn into pieces. As our perspectives shift, that's when we become insecure. If we want to build-up our children increasing both their abilities and confidence, we have to help them K.N.O.W. The K.I.S.S. ~ K.N.O.W.! Confidence can't be made up by the reactions of the world. It can't be found in the stuff that you do. Anything that can be taken from you does not add confidence to your life. You want to instill the "KNOW" in both you and your child. 1. Know whose you are. You are a child of God. You are created in the image of God. Your child is created in His image. Don't let what others say shake your confidence. You have nothing to prove. “I have set the LORD continually before me; Because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken.” Psalm 16:8 2. Nimble in mind. Quick and alert. Discerning and wise. Make decisions that are best for YOU, best for your child. This is not about looking left and right to see what friends and neighbors are doing. Do what is right for your child. 3. Own what you can control. Don't overthink someone else's trash. Don't overthink someone else's dreams. Dream your dreams. Give your child space to soar on wings like eagles. They don't need to borrow anyone else's dreams. 4. The Wonderment of a child. This is your child-like faith. Your child takes cues from you. Are you believing in who you are? Are you believing in your child? And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. I am amazed that when we hear statistics about how many negative thoughts grace our mind, how many negative words grace our lips, that we are actually surprised. 1752 What Stands in the Way Becomes the Way Perspective is a gamechanger in your mindset. What stands in the way becomes the way. Obstacles can be a way of life. However, perspective can change the direction you're headed. Desire to be supported and encourage by other like-minded women? Join us at . When you consider what stands in your way, do you see it as an obstacle or an opportunity? This weekend while I was at a conference, someone quoted Marcus Aurelius, "What stands in the way becomes the way." In reading the sentence prior to the quote, you would know it referred to the negative, an obstacle. However, most of us are not quoting Marcus by his entire quote. We simply whisper the quote, "What stands in the way becomes the way." So you don't just have to let any obstacle stand in the way. An opportunity can stand in the way too. Maybe you had a time where someone requested your expertise. You immediately responded with a confident "yes" to grab hold of that opportunity which was positive. What stands in the way becomes the way. Life has many seasons; some good, some bad. Understand your perspective. Stand on I A.M.! The K.I.S.S. ~ Stand on "I A.M."! Only you control your mind. So you must be intentional about how you filter what you see, hear, taste. touch, and feel. Stand on I A.M.! Identify what it is that you want to change. Acknowledge if the effects are positive or negative. If it's an obstacle, you will need to make some specific tweaks. If it's an opportunity, you need to be willing to jump and take a chance on the opportunity. Seize the opportunity. Make a way. Take A.I.M. Action ignites motivation. You are strong in both obstacles and opportunities. 1751 Remember God Now! Where are you storing up your treasures? A calendar, Siri, and Google can only retain so much busyness. Remember God now! You will never have enough of what you don't need. So why store up treasures in storage units you never visit? Desire to be supported and encourage by other like-minded women? Join us at . If it wasn't for our moves, I would probably own a storage facility. Year after year, we gathered more stuff to store. Have you ever seen that show "Storage Wars"? You have to be careful not to work yourself into the grave for simply storing up treasures here on earth. You have to be diligent not to focus on what you can't control. “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. But the one question most people are not asking themselves: "Do you believe in your marriage?" Anything worth having requires belief. If you do not believe in your marriage, do you actually think you would be willing to work on your marriage? NO!!! You would give up before you even started. 1749 Wings and Roots There are two gifts we give our children. One is wings and the other is roots. Wings and roots! There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens: a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot... Just as the season of the year, we as parents have seasons with our children. We give them gifts that help them grow and mature. In some areas, we give them wings to soar. 1748 The Only Rule: Don't Blend In Life can have you coming and going in all different directions. There are many demands needing your attention. But the only rule: Don't blend in. You were created to stand out. So why let your eyes drift to those whom you're trying to emulate? Desire to be supported and encourage by other like-minded women? Join us at . Stand boldly on who you are. Now you may not be where you want to be. You might have some dreams that have been put on the backburner. However, if you compare yourself to what others are doing, you are selling yourself short. Short from your own greatness; the divine greatness God has bestowed upon you. 1747 What Does Your Past Say About Your Present? When it comes to health and wellness, it's easy to focus on what you want. But who thinks about where you came from? What does your past say about your present? And no, it has nothing to do with what you ate back in high school. (Even though that could play a part in your health.) Desire to be supported and encourage by other like-minded women? Join us at . What I am referring to are your genealogy and genetics. In addition, how you have treated your body and health overall. The flashy, in-your-face messaging tells us that what we need is wrapped up in a special box, point controlled, and food that doesn't have to be refrigerated. Now does any of that sound strange to you? If we would stop long enough and leave the part about the results (that most of the time only helps a select few) out of the picture, we would discover that this is NOT normal. Who lives a healthy lifestyle without eating "real" food? Well, my health has been very complicated my entire life. I wasn't one who was overly obese growing up. Yet, because of my height, weight was something that I did watch carefully as I grew older. I noticed how my body changed from my teens into my twenties with wider hips, calves of steel, with a shorter torso. It seemed I had all strikes against me. If I wanted to be that thin model girl, I had to eat very little. And it didn't take much for me to gain the weight back. (And not a lot of weight; just 5-10 lbs.) Throughout my journey, I've learned so much (and still learning) about how my past has been a curse and a blessing all at the same time. I tell you all of this so you don't assume that your health and wellness has an easy answer. Yes, you start with the basics. But in order to become your healthiest, you must look at your past to point your present into the future. The K.I.S.S. ~ Look at your past to point your present into the future! First, I want you to know that overnight, you will not figure out everything about your body. You can certainly make some great headway. However, know it will take time and some tweaking. Be patient with you and your body. Love who you are throughout all stages of your findings. Seek the truth. Don't try and put yourself in a box. Most likely, you are so unique, you won't fit into a box. Another big component I've had to work on --- don't rush the process! If you want the secret, which I'm sure you do. It is CONSISTENCY!!! Trust the process. Follow through. Be consistent. You can be the healthiest person you want to be. Yes, it will take work. Yes, you will become impatient. Yes, you will wish you started this years ago. Yes, you will want to give up. BUT YOU WILL NOT GIVE UP!!! You will learn your body from the past so you can make changes to the present that will impact your future. It's all connected. 1746 Fear No More! Uncertainty clouds your direction. This isn't what you expected. Cling to the truth and fear no more! How can you make a decision and move forward? You are locked in self-doubt causing more heartaches. As the days grow longer and the joy is fading, fear no more! 1744 Broken Prayers How did we get here? My heart so empty. The edges so raw and tattered. Unanswered questions. Broken prayers. Why is this happening? The answers unclear. Loneliness clouds your everyday. Your spirit is unsettled. Broken prayers. But are your prayers broken? Lord, You comfort me when I don't feel like I belong. You counsel me when my hope is lost. Here in your presence, I’m made new. Broken prayers. Beautiful to Your ears. I cry out and You answer. For You know my name. My confidence is not in what I do, but in who You are. Broken prayers. 1743 Are You TOO Comfortable? Are you TOO comfortable in your marriage? As time goes by, relationships seem to gravitate toward comfort. Why work harder than you have to? Because your marriage is worth it. Your spouse is worth it. You're worth it! Desire to be supported and encourage by other like-minded women? Join us at . But it's an easy reaction to let the relationship go after you say "I do." You got who you want, and the same goes for your spouse. Everything is honky dory. However, there is still that question. Are you TOO comfortable in your marriage? When you think about it, there are many ways we can become TOO comfortable in a relationship. You lack priority for one another. You put things off. Being together is less stimulating; just hangin' out. You take each other for granted. There is no energy left to pursue your spouse. Your true colors shine through. 1742 The Disconnect to Your Connection Parents complain that their children are overly distracted and less connected. No matter how advanced our technology becomes, it actually could be a setback. What is the disconnect to your connection? Maybe it's hanging out with your phone more than with the family. Maybe it's conveniently answering emails you didn't get through earlier in the day. Desire to be supported and encourage by other like-minded women? Join us at . Parents complain about their children being distracted. But what about the parents? Believe it or not, we as parents are addicted to our phones just as much if not more than our children. By making ourselves accessible at all times, we are training others by our own addiction to technology. And this sets you up for a complete failure. Why? Because people are going to expect what you set. You set the boundaries. You set the rules. The question is, "Are you willing to follow the rules?" We as parents and leaders need to set the standards. In the case of your family, you set the rules. Don't let what everyone else wants to cloud your judgment. More green, less screen. This is common sense. But let's take it a bit further. More eyes, less head. "The eyes are windows to the soul." If you are always looking at the tops of the head, how will you see through the windows to your child's soul? 1741 Pack Your Patience When life has you running in all different directions, pack your patience. Your life doesn't have to stress you out. Breathe deeply. If you let your emotions take control, where will that get you? Desire to be supported and encourage by other like-minded women? Join us at . Not very far. In fact, you will be running circles around your anxiety and the stress will only increase. And who needs that stress? You need to approach life with a systematic calmness in order to keep your head on your shoulders. Making decisions with emotions heightened will only increase confusion and indecision. Pack your patience. Rest knowing that you don't have to have all the answers. You can be resilient without punishing yourself. Situations and circumstances do not define your direction. 1740 What You Can Do To Age Better How much would you give to live longer with a higher quality of health? There are many ways for what you can do to age better. Your body has microscopic powerhouses that contribute to your overall health, especially when it comes to aging. They are your mitochondria. Desire to be supported and encourage by other like-minded women? Join us at . If you remember back to your early years of biology class, you might recall these organelles, which are often equated to little energy factories. Mitochondria are responsible for energy production and that mitochondrial function is connected to inflammation, a common factor in all chronic diseases. In order to solve the riddle of chronic diseases, you must look at the impact of these powerhouses and inflammation. How are you helping your mitochondria or how are you killing it? Before you answer that question, let's consider what is happening to destroy the mitochondria. Aside from the natural aging process, there are other things that send mitochondrial function in a bad direction. Smoking Drinking (alcohol) Stress Lack of sleep Environmental pollution like mold and smog Eating a diet rich in refined sugar and flour that causes blood sugar imbalances and insulin resistance So what can you do to age better? The K.I.S.S. ~ Eliminate everyday habits that cause inflammation! Improve your diet. Certain nutrients like Vitamin B, Vitamin C and Vitamin E, iron, magnesium, selenium, and many more, are part of producing ATP within the mitochondria and fighting free radicals. Think antioxidants. A nutrient-dense diet is key to better aging and mitochondrial support. Supplements can also be helpful, like CoQ10 and resveratrol, which are harder to find in foods. Intermittent fasting. Calorie restriction. Exercise will build stronger mitochondria. Eliminate toxins in our air, water, and food (by using filters, buying organic and regenerative foods, and eating a low-glycemic diet) Manage stress in your life. Eliminate excess sugar. The one thing I've learned from relationships to weddings, from design to lifestyle, and from dreams to reality, finding fabulous is the hope-strings of the heart. 1738 Are You Second-Guessing Yourself? Our minds have a way of playing tricks on us. When living your day to day life, there will always be times of self-doubt, questions. Are you second-guessing yourself? Have you ever over-thought a thought? Second-guessing every decision or action, including future plans. Desire to be supported and encourage by other like-minded women? Join us at . I would stew over what happened during the day. It was a way for me to see how I was doing as a person, friend, leader, etc. When I came upon a situation or circumstance that I didn't feel confident in how I handled it, I would pick it apart with a fine-tooth comb. Doing this served me in multiple ways. However, it was also a determent to where I was headed. To increase your wins, you must increase your losses. And those losses can be dissected in the circle of questions. So find the reason in your season. ASK! The K.I.S.S. ~ Find the reason in your season. ASK! Getting yourself caught up in the circles of questions will only develop more second-guessing. Your confidence can fade over time. And your belief in yourself dwindles. As Jim Rohn says, "You are the average of the five people you hang around with." Who are you hanging out with? And even our memories can be a disservice to our thoughts. These are past thoughts that have come and gone, whether it be 1 minute or 10 years ago. Find the reason in your season. Ask God for help. You are not alone. Allow the questions and doubt drive you closer to God. And yes, unfortunately it takes those questions to get us to our knees and ask for God's help. Seek the truth. Doubt comes when the focus is on what you don't know. And what you don't know, you become fearful of stirring up more questions than answers. Seek the truth; the facts --- be present. Knock on the door of faith. When life hangs in the balance, we want to run and hide; go for what's comfortable. "God accomplishes His purpose in spite of you second-guessing. 1733 What Lie is Your Claim to Fame? How much of what you tell yourself is truth? Or better yet, what part of your self-talk is full of it? Lies sabotage your success. So what lie is your claim to fame? There are many things we lie to ourselves about. However, the biggest lies are the ones that affect our health and well-being. Desire to be supported and encourage by other like-minded women? Join us at . Looking in the mirror, words of disgust are shared silently. But the impact is indelibly placed on the heart. As the words are repeated day after day, season after season, the lies once whispered are now blooming as truth. You see, when lies become truth, there is no distinction between right and wrong. The brain adopts it as correct. Therefore, leaving the recipient high and dry in the floods of lies. The more you tell yourself lies, the greater opportunity to make it truth. Now some would wonder, "Why should I care if I lie?". Why wouldn't you care? If lies are not truth, why subject yourself to them. Think about what you tell yourself in a whisper. My thighs are too big. My lips are too thin. My waist is too defined. My hair is the wrong color. Even if these lies are true, how are you expressing them to yourself? What you say matters! Words have power. So what lie is your claim to fame? Driving late tonight looking into the dark sky, I could see my reflection in the window. But if I focused intently, I could see the stars instead of my reflection. That's what happens when we tell ourselves lies. At first, it's not that big of deal. But as time progresses, those lies become your stars; your claim to fame. Is that really what you want to focus on regarding your health? You are made for more. So don't let the lies become your claim to fame. Rise up and proclaim the truth in love! The K.I.S.S. ~ Proclaim the truth in love! We are all messed up. And guess what? Being messed up isn't all that bad when you're in good company. But one thing you must be willing to do is proclaim the truth in love. You may have big thighs. Yet they balanced your body to carry your children to term. Your lips might be thin. But it's your smile that lights up the room. Your waist may be too defined. Rock on! It makes your butt look good. Your hair is the wrong color. At least you have hair. Your claim to fame needs to focus on the truth in love. Not the beatings of the world. ATTRIBUTES OF F.A.M.E. Frequency - How often do you speak/think it? Attitude - How you act? Mechanism - How is it expressed? Effectiveness - How much do you believe? So proclaim the truth in love. Speak kind words.
