Are You Prepared?

Are You Prepared?
“It is better to be a warrior in the Garden rather than the gardener in the war.” -Chinese Proverb In this episode of the podcast I talk about our role as providers and leaders of our families to ensure that we are prepared during unforeseen instances and give you 5 strategies to help you become more prepared. This is not the most uplifting of topics, but it is incredibly important. So many people fail to adequately prepare for things that go wrong. It is our responsibility to recognize that things will happen and that it is our responsibility to be prepared to manage them. By being prepared, you are orders of magnitude in a better position vs those who are not. Having a positive outlook and hoping for the best is a strategy, but when things go wrong, and they will, this is not a strong position to start from when navigating a crisis. Being prepared means having the ability to be adaptive and resilient to unforeseen events that may occur. There is not a day that goes by where you do not see a crisis in someone’s life. Crisis is there when you turn on the news, scroll social media, and have conversations with people. Crisis events occur with our health, finances, with natural disasters, accidents, and violence. The Chinese Proverb “It is better to be a warrior in the garden rather than the gardener in the war” means to be at the ready when need be, as opposed to being caught off guard. Do not be a victim. Courage Under Fire
03/02/2022
Courage Under Fire
"Courage is being scared to death and saddling up anyway." -John Wayne We are witnessing story after story of Courage and Bravery in the Ukraine. Courage is the ability to confront something painful, difficult, or dangerous despite any fear. Courage is a choice. A person feels the fear, pain, or danger, but chooses to persevere anyway. Last week, on 24FEB22, two Russian Battleships assaulted a Ukrainian held position on Snake Island, in the Black Sea off the coast of the mainland. Russian Battleship: "We are a Russian battleship. We suggest that you disarm and surrender, to avoid bloodshed and unnecessary casualties. Otherwise, you will be bombed. Snake island, we are a Russian battleship, I repeat. We suggest that you disarm and surrender. Otherwise, you will be bombed. Do you copy?" Ukrainian Position: "Russian battleship, go F*ck yourself." The Ukrainian position was ultimately destroyed. May the 13 Ukrainian soldiers rest in peace. Could you imagine being faced with that dilemma? Would you surrender or hold the line? Courage is a pillar of high performance and we often fear many things in life. A situation like this makes me realize that some of the fear I face in life are really inflated by my subconscious. Much of what we fear is b.s. We fear judgement of others. We fear failure. We fear if we do that thing and look foolish our reputation will suffer. We fear the hardship of doing something new. We fear that if we rise up to the challenge and do the work, our life may not be better. High Performers look at fear a little differently and take action anyway. The world's highest performers act courageously in facing their challenges and in chasing their dreams. This is what I help people a do as a high performance coach. I help people discern their real fear from the inflated fear, and then together, we formulate courses of action to overcome the real fear and execute the goal. Courage Questions: How could your life improve if you faced your fears? If you had to have more courage right now, what would you stop doing? Start doing? Is there anyone in your life that you could be more honest with when it comes to your true feelings? RAGNAR Bourbon Chase

RAGNAR Bourbon Chase
In this episode, I host a race recap with Team Odlaw, Outlaws from the RAGNAR Bourbon Chase Road Relay from Clermont to Lexington, KY October 15-16, 2021. The Kentucky Bourbon Trail is a collection of bourbon whiskey distilleries located in Kentucky. The Kentucky Bourbon Trail features 37 distilleries and began in 1999 as a way to bring tourism to Kentucky. The RAGNAR relay is a running event in which teams of 12 crazy people run roughly 200 miles—from point A to point B—on city streets, country roads, sidewalks, and bike paths. Teams run day, and night, and day again, sleeping (ha ha) in vans, grassy fields, or perhaps a high school gym. Each teammate runs three separate legs of the race, with downtime in between, for a total of 11 to 24 miles per runner (twice that for ultra teams). We recap our experience, conduct and After Action Review, and what lessons learned from an event like this can be applied to your daily life. Questions I asked: Why do you do these types of events? What was the most difficult moment for you? What lesson learned from this could you apply to your day to day life? What equipment did you wish you would have brought? If you enjoy the podcast, would you please consider leaving a short review on Apple Podcasts/iTunes? “Get Naked” Mindset with Navy Seal William Branum
In this episode I have a great conversation with former Navy Seal William Branum. During this conversation we discuss his military career, biggest challenges of becoming a Navy Seal, Military Transition, thoughts on the current situation in Afghanistan, and his entrepreneurial venture with Naked Warrior Recovery. Williams is the Founder and CEO of Naked Warrior Recovery, a CBD company focused on the recovery of veterans and first responders. He is a retired Navy SEAL with 26 years of service. He has served on both traditional SEAL Teams, taught as a SEAL Sniper Instructor and served on Teams that specialized in undersea operations, who’s missions must be approved by the President of the United States. He led major combat operations ranging from protecting the interim Iraqi elected officials to Direct Action missions in Baghdad and across Ambar province. After retiring from the military in 2018 he realized that he was suffering from physical and psychological symptoms that negatively impacted his well-being and quality of life. Migraines, severe anxiety, chronic pains, difficulty focusing, difficulty sleeping/falling asleep, and depression are some of the symptoms I struggled with on a daily basis. Like so many others, he used alcohol & prescription drugs to mask the symptoms he had. Then he discovered CBD and it changed his life. It had such an impact on him he started Naked Warrior Recovery to bring the highest quality products to the market and to teach the GET NAKED! Mindset. Are You Happy With Your Life? A Reflection Exercise

Are You Happy With Your Life? A Reflection Exercise
Are you happy with your life? Let's reflect. This is a series of questions to help you determine what parts of your life are happy and what may need some focus. What makes you happy? Be honest. Think about all areas of your life. What makes you happy at work? What makes you happy at home? What makes you happy with friends and family? What makes you happy when you are by yourself? What do you love to do? What would you do with your life today if you were not afraid of failure? What is not working in your life? What are you currently doing that prevents you from experiencing joy? What is working in your life? Who is not working in your life? Often there are people in our lives who don’t add value. In fact, they subtract from our life’s joy. Be honest. Who right now in your life is subtracting value from your life and adding misery to it? Can you fix any of these relationships or should you let them go out of your life? What relationships are working in your life? Just as there are people who don’t work in our lives, there are people in our lives who do. They bring value and joy to you. The clearer you are about why these people bring joy into your life, the easier it will be to appreciate and enjoy your relationships with them—and attract more people like them into your life. If we were getting together one year from today, what would have to happen for you to be able to tell me that you now have more joy in your life? What is the single most important thing you’ve learned about yourself as a result of answering these questions? If you enjoy the podcast, would you please consider leaving a short review on Apple Podcasts/ITunes?
