054 - Posture Fitting with Siobhan O'Donovan AKA The Booby Physio
054 - Posture Fitting with Siobhan O'Donovan AKA The Booby Physio Siobhán O’Donovan (aka The Booby Physio!) Chartered Physiotherapist Creator and founder of the PostureFitting physiotherapy service, PostureFitting Partnership, & GALS against GRAVITY workshops. If you had asked Siobhán 10 years ago what she would be doing in 2024, she wouldn’t have predicted being surrounded by all things breasts and bras! But here she indeed is, on a mission to raise awareness of, and demonstrate her solution for, the very underestimated impact of breast weight on women and girls. A chartered physio with a Master’s degree in the Prevention and Management of Sport Injury, Siobhán has always been a solution-seeker. With over 30 years of clinical experience working with patients to prevent, treat, rehab and deter problems, she developed PostureFitting, a physiotherapy service which connects breast weight and support with posture. The resultant effects on her patients in feeling, moving, looking better were too good to keep a secret, and she now trains other therapists to offer the PostureFitting service. Their mutual goal is to educate, empower & enlighten, in all ways, so that more gals win their daily battle against gravity, while busting breast & bra booby traps! 👙 Siobhan's top 3 tips: 1. To quote a fellow physio, do your own "Mesearch" - know your body so you know when things are changing and you need to do something proactively to manage that change, whatever it may be. 2. Ask questions of reliable sources - the only stupid question really is the one you don't ask - but be mindful of those proclaiming recommendations without having the weight of information on consequences behind them. Make an informed choice for yourself rather than follow someone else's actions without due consideration. 3. Movement really is the best medicine of all. You deserve to feel well so make room so that your wellness is as much of a priority as the other priorities in your life. 041 - Food first for your health with Susan Horgan In today's episode, we talked about food, for the brain, our gut, and our lifestyle. Note, re salmon, it is a good source of omega 3 (I had a brain fog moment and was thinking of tunafish - which is lower in omega 3!!) About Susan: I'm a Nutritional Therapist specialising in women's health, especially for busy women over 35, and I have a particular passion for all things perimenopause and menopause. My goal is to help women understand that eating healthier doesn't have to be stressful, restrictive or mean cooking multiple meals for the family. Simple ways to pack everyday meals full of goodness is a key element of everything I do. Susan’s top 3 tips to improve your health are: 1. Keep things simple - focus on building habits step by step rather than changing everything at once 2. Love your gut - lots of fibre-rich veggies and fermented foods 3. Include some protein in every meal and snack Here are Susan's links: Website: Instagram: Facebook: Susan's giveaway You can download my free eBook "How to prep 5 midweek lunches ahead of time, without spending hours in the kitchen" here: ABOUT THE HOST - Fiona Staunton Fiona Staunton is a Ballymaloe trained Chef and has a Degree in Education from Trinity. 038 - Live milk Kefir to support your gut health from kerry Kefir with Mary-Thea Brosnan
038 - Live milk Kefir to support your gut health from kerry Kefir with Mary-Thea Brosnan At Kerry Kefir, we produce an authentic live milk kefir, a natural probiotic packed full of beneficial bacteria and yeast to support gut health naturally. Unlike Actimel, Yakult and supermarket/commercial kefirs, we use the living organisms i.e., kefir grains to ferment our milk. This produces a powerful milk kefir that has more diversity and therefore benefits for your digestive function, immune support and overall gut health. Mary-Theas top 3 tips to improve your health are: 1. Learn to read the ingredients on the products you buy- avoid anything that has a long complicated list of ingredients, including emulsifiers and gums as they have been shown to be bad for gut health 2. Incorporate fermented foods into your diet every day. Kefir, kombucha, sauerkraut, kimchi, miso, yoghurt (natural live yoghurt). Small amounts on a daily basis is better for your long-term gut health goals than large amounts infrequently 3. Vary your fruits and veggies- every time you eat a different fruit or veg you are feeding a different type of bacteria- this is what will help your gut bacteria to grow and thrive and really affect your gut health Research from Stanford University shows a diet high in fermented foods improves microbiome diversity, reduced inflammation and improves immune responses .Research from APC Microbiome Ireland (Prof. Ted Dinan) shows how a diet high in fermented foods and prebiotic foods can improve stress and stress-related diseases Website: Instagram: Twitter: ABOUT THE HOST - Fiona Staunton Fiona Staunton is a Ballymaloe trained Chef and has a Degree in Education from Trinity. 037 - Why we should eat olive oil with Sarah and Olive

037 - Why we should eat olive oil with Sarah and Olive
037 - Why we should eat olive oil with Sarah and Olive About Sarah Merrigan: Apart from some teaching English and writing work my background is food. I lived and worked as a chef in Barcelona after I finished college and that really began the love affair. There was a great food scene over there a real focus on local and seasonal eating that really blew my mind. At the time I was a strict vegetarian and that was what initially got me cooking and I discovered that I loved it. I would often host big dinner parties which were vegetarian something that was very new over there and I was always trying new things. Eventually I left my teaching job and started running popups and studying cookery. I worked in various Catalan and Mediterranean fusion style kitchens which really cemented my interest in and love of the Mediterranean approach to eating – cooking what’s in season and (of course) lots of olive oil. Then, when I returned to Ireland about 20 years ago, I set up an organic box scheme working with Irish farmers as well as importing from abroad. The weekly box included a recipe newsletter which later became a blog and I always loved this part of it. Running a box scheme was incredibly labour intensive especially with three young kids in the mix and after about 10 years I decided to pursue something a little less full on. A Spanish friend and fellow chef from Andalucía had introduced me to some incredible olive oil producers from her hometown of Jaen which also just happens to be ground zero for olive oil and I decided to introduce them to Ireland and that’s when Sarah and Olive was born in 2020. I started small and really focused on educating people about what they were buying – things like olive varieties, how to pair different oils with different foods as well as what makes a great olive oil and even basic concepts like what exactly is extra virgin olive oil. Just before Covid hit I made another visit to Jaen and met with two of the most highly regarded producers in the world – Finca la Torre and Nobleza del Sur and they agreed to allow me to distribute their oils in Ireland. Covid and the Lockdowns was a tricky time to be in business in terms of meeting people and doing in person tasting events but as everyone was cooking and eating more I gained lots of new customers and saw the business grow. Now, we are stocked in outlets all over Dublin and beyond and my website sells the full range so olive oil fans anywhere in Ireland and Europe can get anything delivered. I started an Olive Oil Tasting Club in 2021 which guides members through a selection of oils over the course of a year and this has been very popular. At the moment I am getting ready to launch tasting events and master classes in many of our outlets and later on this year we will begin online tasting events which I hope will give people a fun and informative introduction to the world of Extra Virgin Olive Oil so they can learn how to choose and also what they like. Sarah’s top 3 tips to improve your health are: 1. Eat a rainbow every day - it's the easiest way to make sure you eat a wide variety of foods every day 2. Cook from Scratch - even if it's a cake it won't contain all the bad stuff they put in processed food. It doesn't have to be complicated 3. Eat the seasons - you get food at its best at a good price and it also means that you'll get plenty of variety. I am a huge fan of our local markets.
