Episode 184: Can Mucinex Help You Get Pregnant?
05/15/2024
Episode 184: Can Mucinex Help You Get Pregnant?
Question: Dr. Oakley, I heard on TikTok that Mucinex can help you get pregnant. Is that true? Let's start at the beginning: Mucinex is designed to treat cold and flu symptoms, and there's nothing in the packaging or directions that says you should take this to help you get pregnant. Medications like Mucinex, which contain the active ingredient guaifenesin, thin the mucus throughout your body. One theory, though it is unproven, is that it could thin the mucus in the cervix, making it easier for sperm to pass through more easily. If you are taking these medications, be sure to discuss their potential impact on birth control and fertility with your provider. In this episode, Dr. Oakley & Holly will chat about the viral media question, “Does Mucinex increase your chances of getting pregnant?” Thank you for listening. Always feel free to ask Dr. Oakley any women’s health questions at any time. Please send in your comments, questions, and suggestions for future topics at [email protected]

BEST OF SHOW in 2023 - Episode 164: What Is 'Ghost Poop' and Why Is It Exploding on TikTok?
“A ‘ghost poop’ is a term used to describe when one’s stool sinks to the bottom of the toilet and seemingly vanishes without a trace,” in other words, if you’ve ever gone to the bathroom and then looked into the toilet, only to see your feces disappear, it means that you’ve experienced the elusive “ghost poop” — and the same thing goes if you’ve wiped and there’s nothing on the toilet paper. This type of poop, where you feel like you've passed something, but nothing is visible in the toilet or when wiping, may suggest that you are one of the healthiest individuals out there. It is a sign that your body is receiving adequate amounts of fiber and fatty acids while maintaining proper circadian rhythms aligned with nature. If you don’t find yourself having many — or any — ghost poops, you shouldn’t be alarmed, either. In fact, having ghost poop every day isn’t always ideal, as you are unable to see the changes in your feces if it just disappears all the time. Do you ever look at your poop before you flush? Dr. Oakley & Holly will tell if they do in this episode and you can answer this question on our FB poll on the Lady Bod Pod FB page. Thank you, ladies, for listening. Always feel free to ask Dr. Oakley any women’s health questions at any time. You can ‘Ask Dr. Susan Oakley' MD, Medical Services: Women's Health, Urogynecology, Specialties: Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery. If you have a health concern or any questions, please email us at [email protected]. In this episode, Dr. Oakley & Holly will go over some of your questions below: • I’m 23 and a mother of two toddlers. After childbirth I can’t seem to get rid of this smell down there to save my life. I have tried everything… Please help! What is causing my hemorrhoids and rectum to have an odor? • What should I do if I am allergic to condoms? I started swelling up and the burning and itching was just awful!! • Why Am I Dry Down There All of a Sudden? What can you do to treat vaginal dryness? • So, what can you do to solve a problem like... fire pee? UTIs are quite truly, awful. You constantly feel like you need to pee, it burns or hurts when you do, you have pelvic pain… But guess what?! They’re very common. So, yup, everything from sex to douching can cause UTIs. Dr. Oakley also stresses that transposition of fecal matter and hormone changes make you more susceptible to UTIs. PSA: wipe front to back, ladies! Be sure to: • Pee after sex • Stay hydrated. • Pee whenever you must, and make sure you ‘GO’ fully. A big Shout-Out to our fabulous Sponsor UTIVA!!! You can help lower your risk of preventing UTIs. Dr. Oakley loves and recommends Utiva to her patients and she takes it daily. Check it out: https://www.utivahealth.com/ - Her favorite is the Utiva Cranberry PACs: it’s a simple, small, once-a-day pill taken for daily support of the urinary tract to prevent ongoing UTIs. It's always a good idea to consult a healthcare professional for personalized advice if someone is experiencing persistent discomfort or dryness. NASA-approved Outlast® technology adapts to fluctuations in your temperature for an unmatched and innovative approach to maximum comfort. It’s the ultimate in activewear with fabric designed for NASA spacesuits where temperatures change by 500 degrees, by proactively managing your body temperature, our clothing stores that heat to keep you cool, and then releases it as you cool down…keeping you feeling “just right.” What is Active Temperature Regulation? Not too warm, not too cold – just right. That’s the easy way to explain how phase change materials work. During the night your body continues to change temperature. Outlast® materials reduce overheating and sweating, allowing you to sleep more soundly and wake up more rested. Outlast® materials absorb excess body heat when too much is created and release it again to the body when needed. As a welcomed “side effect”, sweating is reduced dramatically while temperature is balanced actively and dynamically. Dr. Oakley & Holly LOVE these menopause shirts and they suck you in too… They’re so comfortable and soooo soft. We love them for the following: • Adaptive Comfort: Our menopause shirt actively absorbs, stores, and releases heat so you stay in your comfort zone. • Proven Menopausal Relief: In a study, 75% of women felt more comfortable and 90% experienced less sweating. • No-Fuss Care: Machine-washable and durable, our menopause shirt is easy to care for and long-lasting. Episode 167: You Ask Dr. Oakley: Can “sex fasting “really improve your sexual health?

Episode 167: You Ask Dr. Oakley: Can “sex fasting “really improve your sexual health?
A sex fast is just what it sounds like: intentionally abstaining from sex. Unlike celibacy, a sex cleanse is a short break from sexual intimacy. Generally taking place over a predetermined period, the individual tends to return to bedroom business as usual – whatever that looks like for them – once the period is up. The purpose of sexual fasting is to gain greater self-control, self-awareness, and emotional harmony. It can also be used to focus on personal growth, creativity, and productivity, without the distractions and energy drain associated with sexual activity. Another benefit of sexual fasting is that it can deepen emotional connections and intimacy in relationships. By abstaining from sexual activity, couples can focus on other forms of intimacy, such as communication, emotional support, and shared experiences. This can lead to a stronger bond and a deeper understanding of each other’s needs and desires. Sexual fasting can also help to build trust and respect in relationships, as partners learn to respect each other’s boundaries and desires. Thank you, ladies, for listening. LBP Episode 163: What Is “Vabbing” And Does It Really Work? Some women say they've found a new trick involving their vaginas
If you’re in the mood to try something new and eccentric, you can almost always count on TikTok for inspiration. So, the idea of vabbing is inserting clean fingers into your clean vagina and dabbing your vaginal fluids onto your pressure points (wrists, neck, and behind the ears), and using it as perfume. According to Healthline, our vag fluids contain pheromones and its smell is our “sexual scent of attraction.” Who knew? Vabbing had already been written about in books prior to going viral online, but TikTok has put the idea in front of the masses. TikToker Mandy Lee was the first to bring vabbing to social media, and now more and more women are revealing stories of men falling at their feet thanks to the unconventional seduction method. Vabbing works on the theory of pheromones. Pheromone research is nothing new, and the study of human chemical communication has been widely investigated. It was once believed that all mammals – humans included – could attract a mate of the same species by secreting signals through scent. However, its role in humans remains uncertain and unproven. What are the health implications of vabbing? No matter your feelings on the subject, if you want to try vabbing, you’ll need to practice good hygiene. It’s important to be aware of your sexual status when it comes to sharing your bodily fluids. Let’s not forget that STIs still exist. Dr. Oakley & Holly will go over some of the tips on vabbing in this episode, like: • ● Washing your hands both before and after • ● Not allowing areas you’ve ‘vabbed’ to touch anything or anyone • ● Wiping down gym equipment before and after use • ● Refraining from vabbing if you’re on your period or have an STI • ● Making sure you get checked by a professional if you think you sense an unusual or bad odor Thank you, ladies, for listening. Episode 161: How Often Should You Wash Your Bath Towels?
08/29/2023
Episode 161: How Often Should You Wash Your Bath Towels?
This really comes down to personal preference. There are no hard and fast rules, but most people tend to have a separate hand towel in the bathroom for drying freshly washed hands. It also means any guests visiting your toilet don’t have to dry their hands on your bath towel. You might think your towel is fine because you only use it on your clean body but think again. Even your freshly washed skin can harbor germs and bacteria that will transfer to your towel when you dry your skin. Additionally, bathrooms are warm, humid spaces that make them the perfect breeding ground for bacteria — meaning there could also be airborne bacteria and molds landing on your towel. If you typically use the same bath towel for a few days at a time, you're not alone. According to Good Housekeeping, almost 50% of the people surveyed said they go for a full week before they retire a towel. As for towels that you take outside the house, such as to use at the gym, the pool, or the beach, Dr. Oakley recommends washing them after every use as they come in contact with sweat, airborne bacteria, and other contaminants. Most of us would agree that there’s something very comforting about wrapping yourself in a big, warm, fluffy bath towel after a bath or shower. It’s less comforting, though, to think about the germs and bacteria that may be breeding on your towels. If your towel smells, that's a warning to wash it sooner rather than later, so if you catch a musty whiff before you start to dry off, err on the side of caution and toss it into the laundry basket. Dr. Oakley and Holly share in this episode how often they wash their bath towels. So, listen up LBP besties, washing your towels is seriously easy. So, there’s no need to stress. It's just a case of knowing how to wash towels effectively, that's all. So, for best results, here's what you need to do. • Wash white towels at a high temperature (this helps to keep them looking nice and bright) • Clean colored towels on a warm (not hot) cycle • Only use fabric softener sparingly as it can impact the absorbency of towels — white vinegar is an effective alternative. • The best way to dry towels is in the tumble dryer with a couple of dryer balls MAD-LOVE going out to our wonderful Sponsor UTIVA!!! Episode 160: What is keto crotch? Dr. Oakley explains keto crotch & what you can do to get rid of vaginal odor

Episode 160: What is keto crotch? Dr. Oakley explains keto crotch & what you can do to get rid of vaginal odor
There’s no doubt that a keto diet is a great way to lose weight, but it can also hit you straight in the vagina. Have you recently started keto and noticed an unpleasant vaginal odor? You may have developed keto crotch. Keto crotch is a noticeable change in vaginal odor after starting the keto diet. While there isn’t a lot of scientific research on this topic, plenty of women report that they experience keto crotch. Changing to a high-fat and low-carb diet shifts your body to burn fat instead of sugar for energy. Keto triggers profound metabolic changes that support weight loss, balance hormone levels, and improve cognition. The good news is that once your body adjusts to burning fat, keto crotch will go away. Here’s what Dr. Oakley & Holly will go over in this episode: • Yes, it’s 100% true that eating a keto diet can mess your vagina’s pH • A keto diet is based on the consumption of high protein and fat, and low carbs. This entire thing might be great when it comes to weight loss, but when you talk about the pH level of your vagina, it fails miserably. • How to get rid of keto crotch • Experiencing keto crotch doesn’t mean keto isn’t right for you. As your body adjusts to the keto diet, unpleasant smells around your crotch area will diminish and there are plenty of steps you can take in the meantime to reduce symptoms. • Eat plenty of green leafy vegetables. • Green leafy veggies like spinach, collard greens, and mustard greens are rich sources of chlorophyll, a bright green pigment. Chlorophyll is also known as an “internal deodorizer” and helps with keto-breath and other keto-related body odors. If keto crotch is linked to pH imbalance or changes to the bacterial ecosystem of the vagina, a probiotic supplement can reduce odors and support your vaginal health like from Utiva Health. Episode 159: Your Vagina Ages, too. Dr. Oakley explains why
If you recently took a peek down south and were surprised (to say the least) to see wrinkles, you're far from alone. Everyone has wrinkles there. Visible signs of aging, like crow's feet and gray hairs, are a common part of getting older. And just like the rest of your body, your vagina and vulva also change as you age. During your 40s and 50s, your body starts producing less estrogen as you enter perimenopause, the transitional period before menopause. Estrogen keeps vaginal collagen plump and moist and helps provide good blood flow to the area. However, during perimenopause, decreasing estrogen levels can make vaginal tissue thinner and less elastic. Your clitoris may shrink, and your labia may become less full, potentially changing in color, and starting to sag. A decrease in collagen may contribute to sagging skin all over your body, including your vulva, and weaker pelvic floor muscles. Still, there are ways to help you keep your vagina healthy, like doing Kegel exercises and using lube or a vaginal moisturizer. While it's normal for aging vaginas to change, that doesn't mean you have to deal with uncomfortable side effects. If you have any concerns about your vaginal health, consult with a healthcare provider. A big Shout-Out to our fabulous Sponsor UTIVA!!! In honor of the fabulous P!NK coming to Cincinnati with her Summer Carnival Tour to GABP. Dr. Oakley & Holly will go over how to treat a sweaty concert vagina and what you can use to keep her fresh, our absolute favorite is Utiva Health wipes. Speaking of all things Pink, labia can vary in appearance, due to differences in the size and shape of the inner and outer lips. While there are many types, all labia have characteristics that make them unique. Many women worry that their vagina/vulva doesn’t look “normal,” but there really is no normal. The only normal out there is what’s normal for you. Also, can POISON IVY spread to your vagina? W cover your questions in this this episode like: • Should your labia be the same color as your skin? • What about the color of your nipples/areola? A big Shout-Out to our fabulous Sponsor UTIVA!!!
