67. Power, Authority, and Accountability
In this episode, we examine how power operates inside jiu jitsu spaces and why harm is rarely just about individual bad actors. We focus on the structures that allow abuse, manipulation, and silence to persist, particularly in gyms built around unchecked authority and rigid hierarchy. Rather than centering scandal, this conversation is about prevention. We discuss flattening hierarchy, shared leadership, transparency, and why accountability must be structural rather than personal. The goal is to explore what it takes to build martial arts communities where safety is embedded into the system rather than addressed only after harm occurs.
